Urban Martial Saint

”Experts from Twelve Green Halls?” Su Kaicheng was even more surprised and asked, ”How did they come to help you?”

Ye Qing didn’t hide anything and briefly recounted what happened last night, finally saying, ”I don’t know why they want to protect me. Anyway, now they’re my personal bodyguards. At least until the fifteenth of next month, they must absolutely ensure my safety. There’s still less than a month left, and this kind of opportunity can’t be wasted. Cheng Shuang just said there are over twenty mercenary groups, so you must provide me with the information. I handle one a day, and a month should be enough.”

After hearing Ye Qing’s words, Su Kaicheng felt slightly at ease and said, ”Ye brothers, are you sure these two people are really protecting you? This kind of thing must not go wrong. If they’re not protecting you and you clash head-on with those mercenaries, you’ll definitely suffer!”

”Don’t worry, since they’re risking becoming enemies with the Purple Robe Lama to protect me, it shows they can’t let me die. So, I’m sure they’ll absolutely protect me!” Ye Qing said, ”No matter how strong these mercenaries are, they can’t be stronger than the Purple Robe Lama!”

Su Kaicheng, being a member of the State Security Department, naturally knew about the Purple Robe Lama. Hearing Ye Qing say this, he had no doubts and, after a moment of silence, said, ”If that’s the case, that’s good. However, I don’t have the mercenary information on hand right now, I’ll need to apply for it for you. Wait a bit, and I’ll reply to you tonight!”

After hanging up the phone, Su Kaicheng sat up from the bed. Last time he came to Shenchuan City, a bullet grazed his neck, and he lost a fair amount of blood. Returning to the Capital, he first took a few days off to rest and also went to the hospital for some treatment.

His family was all present at the moment, Luo Meiyun was peeling an apple for Su Kaicheng at the bedside. As for his younger sister Su Kaixin, she was able to get out of bed now and was sitting by the bed. Seeing Su Kaicheng suddenly sitting up, Su Kaixin immediately asked, ”Brother, what are you doing?”

”I’ve got something to do, need to make a trip to the office.” Su Kaicheng replied.

”What’s so urgent?” Luo Meiyun frowned slightly and said, ”Haven’t you taken leave? Why leave so suddenly?”

”Moreover, listening to what you just talked about, it wasn’t someone from the office calling you, was it?” asked his second uncle Su Guoli, sitting on the other side, ”Was it Ye Qing who called you?”

Su Guoli, incidentally an official in the Capital City Finance Bureau, previously had some conflict with Ye Qing, but the conflict was completely resolved after Ye Qing saved Su Kaixin, and he now considers Ye Qing a good friend. Last time Ye Qing asked for help, the matter with Gao Shibao was entirely arranged by him.

”Hahaha...” Su Kaicheng couldn’t help but laugh and said, ”Nothing can be hidden from you, Second Uncle. Yes, the call was from Ye Qing. However, this time I really need to go to the office, but it won’t take long, just a quick application.”

”Are you sure you’re okay to move around with your condition?” Su Guoli waved his hand and said, ”I’ll let Little Gao drive you there.”

The Little Gao mentioned by Su Guoli is Gao Shibao. Ever since being transferred to Su Guoli as a secretary, Gao Shibao has been regarded as a confidant, accompanying him everywhere on various matters. Now, he is not only Su Guoli’s secretary but also his driver. Even when Su Guoli occasionally returns home for gatherings, he lets him drive. Consequently, Gao Shibao’s status has increased significantly, and many at the Finance Bureau are eager to befriend him.

After one visit to the Su family, Gao Shibao finally understood Su Guoli’s background and was even more shocked, which made him act more cautiously. Despite not having spent much time with Su Guoli, he has become exceptionally keen, regarded as a confidant for good reason. He now feels very balanced because he knows this is the greatest opportunity in his life, not only because of Su Guoli’s background but the entire Su family’s strength. This will be a major chance to change his life, and he certainly won’t let himself make any mistakes.

While the Su family was discussing Ye Qing earlier, Gao Shibao was standing nearby, listening to them talk about Ye Qing as if he were family, which shocked him greatly. While he knew that the Su family held Ye Qing in high regard, he didn’t expect everyone in the Su family to be so familiar with Ye Qing, no wonder Ye Qing was willing to help him so much.

Upon hearing Su Kaicheng’s words, Gao Shibao immediately walked over and said, ”Young Master Su, let me drive you.”

Luo Meiyun also nodded and said, ”Kaicheng, let Little Gao drive you, it’s inconvenient for you to drive yourself.”

Seeing his mother making the suggestion, Su Kaicheng didn’t refuse, nodded in agreement, and went downstairs with Gao Shibao.

Inside the house, Su Guoli also stood up and watched the two driving off, saying, ”Ah, Kaicheng’s dedication to work is exactly like his father’s!”

Luo Meiyun smiled slightly, always proud of her son’s ambition. However, her greatest joy is her daughter now sitting safely by her side. Ye Qing saving Su Kaixin was like saving her, and the Su family has always held grateful appreciation for Ye Qing.

Gao Shibao drove Su Guoli’s car, taking Su Kaicheng out of the hospital and directly towards the State Security Bureau. This wasn’t his first time driving Su Kaicheng, but he didn’t know what Su Kaicheng exactly did since the outside of the State Security Bureau has the name of a research institute. Gao Shibao assumed it was merely a research institute. Su Kaicheng’s department is very secretive and not public.

To Gao Shibao, Su Kaicheng was just a researcher at the institute, unaware that he held important positions and undertook very secret tasks.

After dropping off Su Kaicheng at the State Security Bureau, Su Kaicheng directly instructed him to head back as the application would likely take two to three hours.

Gao Shibao didn’t linger, and since it was lunchtime, he went back as Su Guoli planned to have a family dinner with Su Guoxuan; knowing he would only be in the way, Gao decided to drive home, grabbed a quick meal at a roadside stall near the residential area, and returned to the complex.

After divorcing his wife, Gao Shibao had almost a week’s time when he didn’t have a place to live, squeezing in with his cousin in one room. Actually, during this week, many people were thinking about arranging a place for him, some even offered a key to a high-end apartment, trying to gift him a house. But Gao Shibao wasn’t foolish; he didn’t accept any of those because he was clear that the opportunity offered by following Su Guoli was rare, never wanting to ruin his future over minor matters.

After a week, the Finance Bureau arranged a place for him in the staff building with a three-bedroom apartment. Though not the newest, compared to his previous rental situation, the apartment was quite luxurious. Even his cousin moved in, sharing the apartment comfortably.

His cousin, still a chef, now works at a considerably upscale hotel, much fancier than his previous job.

When he got into the corridor, Gao Shibao noticed several people standing at his front door, which made him sigh. Ever since moving here, almost daily, he encountered similar situations, with some familiar and unfamiliar faces at his doorstep wanting to visit him, mainly to establish connections or ask for favors.

Gao Shibao actually dislikes such people, never entertaining any of them. Yet many persisted, eager to establish ties with him as Su Guoli’s standing at the Finance Bureau is quite significant.

Arriving near his doorstep, Gao Shibao suddenly realized that the familiar faces included his former wife Xie Cuizhi, she was dressed stylishly and waiting with her daughter, carrying fruits at the door, surrounded by her parents and several family members.

Gao Shibao immediately frowned; Xie Cuizhi had called him several times wanting to reconcile, but he never agreed. Unexpectedly, Xie Cuizhi came to his door this time, does this shameless woman dare to meet him?

Seeing Gao Shibao approaching, Xie Cuizhi’s mother immediately smiled and greeted, ”Shibo is back, busy all day, must be tired. Come, come, let’s head home and talk.”

Xie Cuizhi’s father also approached and smiled, ”Shibo, haven’t had lunch yet? Let’s go home and tidy up; then we’ll all go out for a meal as a family.”

Gao Shibao frowned slightly, glanced at the group, and said, ”Sorry, I’m not really familiar with you all, am I?”

This statement made Xie Cuizhi’s group awkward, exchanging looks before turning to Xie Cuizhi.

Xie Cuizhi blushed and walked over, saying, ”Shibo, how can you say such things? We were once married!”

”That was before,” replied Gao Shibao, ”I still have the divorce certificate with me; do you want me to show it and remind you again?”

”That doesn’t count,” Xie Cuizhi urged, ”As the saying goes, a hundred days of kindness for a single night’s marriage. We were together for so long; surely there’s some affection, why so abruptly?”

”Xie Cuizhi, you proposed the divorce, you had the lawyer draft the settlement, and you executed everything. What right do you have to talk about affection now?” Gao Shibao coldly looked at the group behind Xie Cuizhi and said, ”Excuse me, I’m heading home. If you all have no business here, please don’t linger at my door for too long; it disturbs the neighbors. If they call the police, it won’t look good.”
