Urban Martial Saint

Bai Li Xi looked deeply at Hou Yuewen and said, ”It seems you still don’t understand the Wanyan Family enough. A family that has been meticulously hiding for over a thousand years and accumulating power for over a thousand years, is much more complicated than it appears. Do you really think they wanted to establish a nation in Fusang Country relying only on that legendary Fate? Hmph, as the saying goes, ’Fate, Fortune, Feng Shui, Karma, and Studying.’ The first three are beyond human control, but the last two are manageable by human effort. They’ve waited for these three elements to converge over the past thousand years. Still, they weren’t idle in those thousand years. Do you think they’ve invested so much for just one purpose over the centuries? Couldn’t they change the last two elements in a thousand years?”

”The last two elements?” Hou Yuewen scratched his head and said, ”Karma and Studying? Hmph, those two can’t really change the overall picture. As the saying goes, ’Scholars are the least useful.’ In such times of chaos, only a Military General can control the world. What use is there in studying endlessly?”

Bai Li Xi said calmly, ”Building Karma essentially means fostering goodwill and leaving a good reputation, winning people’s praise. This way, when they start a war and establish a nation in Fusang Country, they won’t be cursed by the world. As for Studying, it’s a broad term; fundamentally, it means enhancing one’s strength. With a millennium’s accumulation, just how powerful the Wanyan Family has become, I’m afraid very few can truly see through it!”

Hou Yuewen furrowed his brows deeply, and Bai Li Xi’s words made him whisper to himself. Could it really be as Bai Li Xi said, that the Wanyan Family’s strength was hidden and unseen? If that’s truly the case, then the Wanyan Family’s power should not be underestimated!

After a moment of silence, Hou Yuewen inadvertently caught a strange smile flitting across Bai Li Xi’s mouth. This made Hou Yuewen’s heart skip; he suddenly realized, given Bai Li Xi’s relationship with Ning Qianshu, why would he tell him such things?

”Great Master Uncle, it seems my Master wasn’t wrong, you’re more cunning than anyone else!” Hou Yuewen sneered, ”So according to you, the Wanyan Family’s power is definitely not inferior to the Seven Steering Committees of Hong Alliance and the Twelve Green Halls. But a mere Ye Qing along with Northern Martial Zen caused turmoil in the Wanyan Family and got you released. Do you think that’s possible?”

”Why wouldn’t it be possible?” Bai Li Xi said, ”What I said is true, why would I deceive you?”

”Why you’re deceiving me, you should know far better than I do.” Hou Yuewen sneered, ”Hmph, you’re intentionally exaggerating the Wanyan Family’s power, making us believe they are an arch-enemy, and diverting attention to them. Great Master Uncle, you’re quite skilled at using others to achieve your aims. Unfortunately, I’m not a fool, and neither are the Twelve Green Halls, we definitely won’t be deceived by your simple words.”

”Believe whatever you want!” Bai Li Xi shrugged, ”I told you because you are my dear nephew. Since you don’t believe me, I won’t waste my breath, take care of yourself!”

With that, Bai Li Xi turned to leave. Hou Yuewen hurriedly stepped forward and said, ”Great Master Uncle, our conversation isn’t over, are you really leaving in such a hurry?”

”What? You still want to stop me?” Bai Li Xi glanced up and down at Hou Yuewen and said, ”Hmph, I’m not even afraid of Old Ghost Ning here, and you, a small fry, want to flaunt your prowess in front of me?”

Hou Yuewen had a look of exasperation, for although he was forty or fifty years old, to Bai Li Xi, he was no different from a child. Yet there was nothing he could do; Bai Li Xi was older than his Master and of higher seniority; he couldn’t argue back.

”I’ve heard, Great Master Uncle had all your meridians destroyed by someone in the Wanyan Family, and now you have no Inner Strength.” Hou Yuewen scanned Bai Li Xi up and down, sneering, ”I wonder if that’s true or not!”

”For us in the Divine Medicine Sect, whether we have Inner Strength is not crucial.” Bai Li Xi said, ”Even if I have not a trace of Inner Strength, killing you is as easy as blinking. Do you want to try?”

Hou Yuewen jumped in fright and quickly stepped back. He knew Bai Li Xi’s words were not false. After all, Bai Li Xi and his Master Ning Qianshu were fellow disciples, and both had medical skills far beyond ordinary people. In the realm of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the more skilled the doctor, the better they are with poisons. Even without Inner Strength, Bai Li Xi could kill easily.

”Great Master Uncle, you misunderstood.” Hou Yuewen laughed awkwardly, ”Master said, you are one of us, and now without Inner Strength, someone outside might harm you. So, Master has announced to the world, calling all disciples to search for you. If convenient, hope you can visit Master. It’s been nearly thirty years since you last met and would be a joyous reunion. Besides, with Master, you could avoid unnecessary troubles. I think there aren’t many in the world who dare trouble you at my Master’s place.”

”Oh please.” Bai Li Xi said, ”Let me tell you, the most troublesome person since childhood has been your Master. When he first came to the Divine Medicine Sect, he was a little brat, and I changed his diapers, fed and cared for him. You have no idea, people were poor back then, and your Master, being a child, needed milk to survive. I exchanged Divine Medicine Sect’s herbs for cow and goat milk for him. As he grew up and became mischievous, if anything happened, I’d clean up after him. Even after he made a name, he got unruly, and I don’t want to clean up his mess anymore!”

Hou Yuewen had no idea about these embarrassing past events of his Master, and listening to Bai Li Xi, he couldn’t help but silently chuckle, though he dared not show it. Bai Li Xi was truly chatty, airing Ning Qianshu’s old dirty laundry, clearly trying to embarrass Ning Qianshu.

”Anyway, Master said if I encountered Great Master Uncle, to invite you over.” Hou Yuewen said, ”Great Master Uncle, Master is considering the bonds from the past, so he keeps inviting you. May I know if you’ll honor this request?”

”I already said, why are you so nagging?” Bai Li Xi said impatiently, ”Honor or not, I’m too lazy to find him. But if he wants to see me, let him come on time to find me. Remember, he must bring the Divine Doctor’s Order.”

”Divine Doctor’s Order!?” Hou Yuewen’s face changed, staring at Bai Li Xi in shock, and said solemnly, ”The Divine Doctor’s Order, isn’t that the token left by Grand Master in the past? It’s said that whoever holds the Divine Doctor’s Order can ask Grand Master to heal someone. No matter what injuries the person has, if they’re not dead, Grand Master can save them!”

”You’re not quite right with your words.” Bai Li Xi shook his head, ”Actually, your Grand Master’s skills are not limited to that. It’s not about the person not being dead; as long as they haven’t been dead for over three days, they can be saved!”

”Ah!?” Hou Yuewen’s eyes widened, his face full of incredulity, and tremblingly said, ”The dead...can’t be revived, can they?”

”Nonsense, if your Grand Master didn’t have even that ability, how could he be called a Divine Doctor?” Bai Li Xi said, ”The saying ’the dead cannot be revived’ isn’t entirely accurate. Modern science declares someone dead only when the body’s functions completely cease. To Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is only a suspended animation state, not actual death. Only when this state exceeds three days, the person is utterly dead, and not even immortals can save them. Your Grand Master was a divine scholar and could revive those in a state of suspended animation.”

”How...how can that be possible? How is it possible?” Hou Yuewen was utterly shocked; although these words came directly from Bai Li Xi, he still couldn’t believe it, as it was simply too astounding.

The dead can actually be revived?

”Of course those who haven’t seen it won’t believe it’s possible.” Bai Li Xi laughed, ”But once you witness it with your own eyes, you’ll understand.”

”I’ve never seen it before myself, it hardly seems possible.” Hou Yuewen said, eyes widened in astonishment. ”Our Grand Master is no longer here, who else in this world could bring the dead back to life?”

”When the time comes, bring the Divine Doctor’s Order, and everything will be revealed.” Bai Li Xi smiled.

As he spoke, a flash of insight crossed Hou Yuewen’s eyes. With a startled cry, he said, ”Could it be...is our Grand Master still alive? Is that so, is our Grand Master still alive?”

Bai Li Xi smiled with a hint of mystery and said slowly, ”Bring the Divine Doctor’s Order, and everything will be revealed.”
