Urban Martial Saint

Liu Cheng spoke up in support of this doctor on their side, wanting to seize the opportunity to achieve merit. He had always been compared to Su Kaicheng and a few others, but none of them had ever come out on top. If he could make a significant contribution this time, he would gain some prestige upon returning.

Li Yanwu still didn’t know what a research specimen was, but upon hearing Liu Cheng’s explanation, he immediately understood. It was clear that he was somewhat hesitant about this matter. After a moment of silence, he looked at the other doctors and said loudly, ”What does everyone think of this method?”

Most doctors chose to remain silent, as they really didn’t know how to handle this matter. At such times, doing nothing was better, and not speaking up wouldn’t lead to any mistakes.

Seeing everyone remain silent, Ye Qing said directly, ”I think this idea is not feasible!”

Liu Cheng and the doctor from earlier immediately looked at Ye Qing, with Liu Cheng’s eyes flashing a hint of resentment. He said sternly, ”Why do you think this idea is not feasible? Do you have a better suggestion?”

”I don’t have a better solution at the moment, but that doesn’t mean we can’t come up with a better method,” Ye Qing said. ”No matter what, these people are still alive and have the right to survive. We can’t arbitrarily decide others’ fate.”

”Sacrificing one person to save so many, I think that’s right!” Liu Cheng said coldly. ”If we don’t resolve this quickly, once the enemy’s biochemical weapons hit us, it won’t be as simple as sacrificing just one person. Indecisiveness is not an attitude soldiers should have!”

”Soldiers certainly won’t be indecisive, but soldiers also don’t treat others’ lives like they’re worthless!” Ye Qing said loudly. ”On the battlefield, even if a soldier falls, his comrades will fight to bring back his body, out of respect for human life. These people are still alive, and we have no right to control their life and death at will!”

”Well said!” As soon as Ye Qing finished speaking, applause was heard from the side.

Everyone turned to look and saw a man in his fifties smiling gently at Ye Qing. He completely ignored Liu Cheng’s furious expression and said loudly, ”Doctors are meant to save lives. Since we are doctors, we should think about how to save lives, not take them. Using living people as specimens to develop drugs is prohibited worldwide. If we do such things, how are we different from terrorists?”

This man’s words gained support from many, and Li Yanwu also nodded, saying, ”That’s right, after all, they are our soldiers, living beings. We cannot control their lives as we please.”

Upon hearing Li Yanwu agree, Liu Cheng had no choice but to abandon this idea. He looked at Ye Qing angrily and said, ”General Li, this matter is of utmost importance, and we must quickly create an antidote for these biochemical weapons. How should we proceed with the next step of research without research specimens? Moreover, we intercepted this batch of biochemical weapons carried by the Special Forces. The enemy’s plot is now exposed, and under these circumstances, it’s highly likely they will advance their plans. If anything happens before we develop the antidote, who will take responsibility?”

Liu Cheng described the matter as very serious, essentially threatening Ye Qing and the others. If anything went wrong, they would be held responsible.

Ye Qing couldn’t help but glance at Liu Cheng, realizing that this was the first time he had met him, and Liu Cheng seemed to have a particular hostility towards him. It seemed that Liu Cheng’s relationship with Su Kaicheng was not very harmonious at all.

Su Kaicheng slightly furrowed his brow, his neck injured and not wanting to say much. However, with Liu Cheng being so aggressive, he couldn’t remain silent anymore.

”Liu Cheng, our people can only ensure that an antidote is developed before the enemy begins their large-scale actions, but no one can be entirely certain of success. Before that, our military can only strengthen defenses and prevent the enemy from transporting these biochemical weapons through our borders towards Fusang Country.” Su Kaicheng said, ”Meanwhile, I think we should quickly notify Fusang Country to prepare defenses to avoid unnecessary conflict!”

”We’ve already notified Fusang Country, but you know their military capabilities. They simply can’t handle these Special Forces. We are the last line of defense here, but as the saying goes, ’A hidden dart is harder to guard against than an open arrow.’ The enemy is in the shadows, ready to strike quietly, and we cannot fully control them. Therefore, I believe we should quickly develop an antidote, as this is the root solution to the problem!” Liu Cheng paused and said, ”This matter is of great importance, and in a higher sense, it’s a war without smoke. In war, everyone must take responsibility for their actions. So I want to ask, if any accidents occur due to our delay, who will bear this responsibility?”

The surrounding doctors immediately turned their heads aside. At this time, no one wanted to speak up, who would want to take on such responsibility?

Li Yanwu also frowned. He wasn’t afraid of taking responsibility, but as Liu Cheng said, if uncontrollable consequences arise because of their delay, it would indeed be a major dereliction of duty on his part!

In the midst of the silence, Lin Tianyou, who hadn’t spoken, suddenly said, ”General Li, could I have a closer look at these patients?”

Ye Qing was taken aback and couldn’t help but ask, ”Brother Lin, what are you planning to do?”

Lin Tianyou said, ”Didn’t you mention before that these people’s condition is somewhat similar to a folk disease you told me about?”

”I mentioned?” Ye Qing was taken aback again, suddenly recalling that he had indeed shared several treatment methods with Lin Tianyou before. These methods were recorded in the Acupoint Seeking Technique, which Ye Qing had taught him, claiming they were rural remedies. Could it be that these patients’ conditions resemble those documented in the Acupoint Seeking Technique?

Ye Qing carefully recollected the records in the Acupoint Seeking Technique, but after pondering multiple times, he couldn’t find any conditions similar to these patients. What was Lin Tianyou referring to?

”I’m afraid that’s not possible!” Li Yanwu said with a difficult expression, ”These patients are now extremely aggressive and will attack any living creatures that come near them. Moreover, they’re very strong and hard to control, making it impossible to observe them up close. How about I use a tranquilizer gun to sedate them first, and then let you observe?”

”No, that won’t do!” Lin Tianyou shook his head and said, ”It must be when they are fully conscious.”

”That’s not an easy task.” Li Yanwu said, ”We’ve tried, and even four warriors together couldn’t hold down one person. Moreover, it’s still uncertain whether these patients’ illness is contagious, making it impractical to release them. Close observation could potentially be very dangerous.”

”A doctor’s heart is like a parent’s heart; such a risk is insignificant.” Liu Cheng said with sarcasm, ”Since this doctor is willing to sacrifice himself, maybe we should try; he might find a way to save them!”

Li Yanwu slightly frowned. He was somewhat dissatisfied with Liu Cheng’s sarcastic tone. However, he didn’t say anything outright, only speaking softly, ”This method truly is too dangerous. Doctor, you probably haven’t seen these patients during an episode; they’re really like beasts. Observing them at close range while conscious is truly impossible.”

”Why don’t I give it a try!” Ye Qing stepped forward and said, ”I can attempt to restrain one patient for Doctor Lin to observe closely.”

”You?” Li Yanwu was surprised. Ye Qing didn’t seem to be the type of person with a strong build; it wouldn’t be easy for one person to restrain these raging patients.

”Perhaps I could give it a try.” Ye Qing smiled lightly, extending his right hand and casually lifted a marble table on his right.

Li Yanwu’s eyes widened immediately; that marble table was roughly two or three hundred pounds, and Ye Qing lifted it with just one hand. His strength must be incredible!

The group of doctors nearby was also left gaping, whispering amongst themselves, all wondering if Ye Qing was a doctor or a weightlifting champion.

Liu Cheng’s eyes nearly popped out; he always thought the two people Su Kaicheng brought were young and incapable. But Ye Qing’s strength was truly enough to astound him.

”Alright!” Li Yanwu said straightforwardly, ”Then it’s settled. Please, both of you.”

”Thank you!” Lin Tianyou nodded, and under Li Yanwu’s arrangement, he and Ye Qing entered the enclosed room of the research lab.

The patients were all confined within the room, and their emotions seemed very agitated, constantly struggling and thrashing about, which already made those outside nervous. Thinking of Ye Qing and Lin Tianyou entering to observe up close seemed nothing short of suicidal.

As they reached the door, Ye Qing finally found an opportunity to ask quietly, ”Brother Lin, what illness do these people have exactly?”

”I remember you once told me about a disease called Hematomania, an extremely rare condition where patients seek to consume blood during episodes.” Lin Tianyou said, ”This disease, I’ve only heard of but never seen. Recently, I did witness it in a mountain area in the North, where an elder specifically hunted beasts to drink their blood.”

”Hematomania!?” Ye Qing’s heart skipped a beat. He certainly remembered this disease. However, the symptoms recorded in the Acupoint Seeking Technique differed significantly from those of these patients.

”Aren’t Hematomania patients supposed to lack aggressiveness? Those people still had their wits about them.” Ye Qing said softly, ”These people can attack others, and they’ve lost all rationality and humanity, attacking even their families. Could this really be Hematomania?”
