”Fuck off!” Zhao Chengshuang grabbed another cup from the table and threw it, cursing, ”I’ll stay here if I damn well want to, can you fucking bite me?”.

”You shameless bastard!” Guan Haochen exploded in anger, rising to pounce on Zhao Chengshuang, but was stopped by the four Xiangjiang police officers sitting beside him.

”Captain Guan, Captain Zhao is injured and still in a wheelchair, why must you nitpick with him!” Ou Keren quietly looked at Guan Haochen and said, ”Considering Captain Zhao’s condition, do you really want to lay hands on him? Isn’t that a bit too much of a bully?”

Guan Haochen was so angry he nearly spit blood and urgently said, ”Me, bullying? Didn’t you see him dousing me with water? Twice in a row! Put yourself in my shoes, could you stand it?”

Ou Keren shook her head and said, ”I would dodge.”

Her words instantly left Guan Haochen red-faced with embarrassment; Ou Keren’s implication was that he was slow to react. He really wanted to erupt in anger, but considering he was facing a beauty, he opened his mouth but ultimately swallowed his pride. If he lost his temper now, all the sweet-talking he’d done lately would have been for naught.

”Let’s not talk about that for now.” Guan Haochen looked at Zhao Chengshuang and said, ”Since you’ve resigned, you have no right to attend our meetings anymore. Leave immediately and don’t force us to kick you out!”

”Make me leave, if you’ve got the balls. I’m not giving you the satisfaction!” Zhao Chengshuang retorted angrily, ”Take a look in the mirror and see if you really think you’re some kind of leader. Look at all your plans, what good are they other than wasting resources?

Ye Zi had it right from the start of the meeting, and sure enough, He Ziqiang’s whereabouts were indeed discovered in the North Suburb last night. If it weren’t for you taking most of the team away, we would have already caught He Ziqiang. Now we have to start all over again looking for him! I think you’re just jealous that Ye Zi is better than you. People like you, serving as leaders, what a joke!”

Last night, according to Ye Qing’s advice, Zhao Chengshuang took a team to search the North Suburb. Ou Keren also went along and indeed they found traces of He Ziqiang there. If they had had enough manpower, they surely would have caught He Ziqiang last night.

This incident once again proved Ye Qing’s deductive abilities, and even the four police officers from Xiangjiang who had come along were amazed by Ye Qing’s conjecture. They knew all too well that the Xiangjiang Police had crossed paths with He Ziqiang several times and still couldn’t pin down his whereabouts.

Ou Keren had been suggesting since last night that they should bring Ye Qing back to help catch He Ziqiang, and her words were full of admiration for Ye Qing. This made Guan Haochen even more jealous and furious, so when he heard Ye Qing was wanted, he was the happiest and most gleeful person about the misfortune.

Hit right where it hurt by Zhao Chengshuang’s words, Guan Haochen flew into a rage, but because of Ou Keren’s presence, he could not take action and could only grit his teeth and angrily say, ”Zhao Chengshuang, Ye Qing is now a fugitive. You keep speaking on his behalf; I have enough reason to suspect you’re in cahoots with him.

You better leave at once, or I’ll accuse you of colluding with a suspect, trying to steal police internal information to help the suspect escape!”

”Captain Guan, don’t give me that bullshit!” Zhao Chengshuang shouted furiously, ”Conspiring with suspects, stealing police internal information, is whatever you say taken as truth? Do you have any witnesses? Do you really think you can do whatever you want just because your old man is the deputy director of the provincial office? Fuck, without your father’s clout, what are you worth?

Strutting around in Shenchuan City, fuck, what a disgrace, can’t you look at yourself in the mirror?!”

Guan Haochen trembled with fury, pointing at Zhao Chengshuang but was speechless for a long moment. In the end, he stormed off, not looking back as he left the conference room.

The effeminate man from Xiangjiang looked at Zhao Chengshuang and said, ”Captain Zhao, we’re all working together, why get so worked up? Captain Guan might have done some things wrong, but after all, he’s the head of the arrest team. It’s not good not to give him some face.”

”Face? He can want face all he wants!” Zhao Chengshuang spat, cursing, ”Face is something one loses on one’s own. If he’s not afraid of losing face, then why should I give it to him?”

Helpless, the effeminate man saw that Zhao Chengshuang was in a temper and it seemed no one could calm him down.

”Captain Zhao, that Ye Qing...” Ou Keren hesitated for a moment before asking, ”What exactly does he do?”

”What, you suspect him too?” Zhao Chengshuang turned toward Ou Keren angrily, becoming instantly hostile towards anyone who spoke ill of Ye Qing.

”It’s not that I suspect him, just that what he’s done is rather extreme,” Ou Keren said, ”We live in a society governed by law. Can’t legal methods be used to resolve issues? The extreme measures he’s taken are unacceptable.”

”Whether it’s extreme or not depends on the circumstances,” Zhao Chengshuang said, ”No matter what, I believe Ye Zi is definitely not a bad person.”

Ou Keren didn’t say anything. She had only met Ye Qing twice. However, his abilities and accurate deductive skills greatly impressed her.

She couldn’t comment on Ye Qing’s character, but the night before last, she had had an encounter with Ye Qing. She could clearly feel that Ye Qing still had strength to spare, but when he bumped into her, he pulled most of his punches, merely knocking her back a few steps. Indeed, if Ye Qing hadn’t held back, a single strike could have injured her.

This showed that Ye Qing was measured in his actions. What exactly had happened that drove him to storm into the Lin family’s home so madly?

As the group sat in silence, a policeman ran in through the door in a panic, exclaiming, ”Captain Zhao, something’s happened, something’s happened!”

”What happened?” Zhao Chengshuang immediately asked, deeply concerned that something might have happened to Ye Qing.

The police officer rushed to say, ”Your relative, Lin Tianhao, was just thrown out onto the street. The tendons in both of his hands have been severed, he’s just been taken to the hospital. The doctor said that it’s unlikely they can be reconnected.”

”Damn, I thought it was something serious!” Zhao Chengshuang immediately looked relieved.

”How come you’re not worried at all when your relative is injured?” Ou Keren asked in surprise.

”Because he’s a beast!” Zhao Chengshuang waved his hand and said, ”Which hospital is he at? Take me to see him first.”

The effeminate officer urgently said, ”Captain Zhao, the most important thing right now is to catch He Ziqiang. You’re a member of our pursuit team, it’s not convenient for you to leave, right?”

”Screw this pursuit team, I quit!” Zhao Chengshuang declared decisively, gesturing for the officer to push his wheelchair out.

The effeminate officer was immediately dumbfounded, turning to look at Ou Keren, and said, ”What... How do police operate in Huaxia?”

Ou Keren was silent for a while, then suddenly stood up and said, ”You guys wait here, I’ll go take a look.”

”Captain, you want to go too?” The effeminate officer became anxious and said, ”This is their family’s business, why are you joining in the commotion?”

Ou Keren ignored him and followed Zhao Chengshuang out directly.

Looking at the empty office, the effeminate officer couldn’t help feeling discouraged and said, ”What about the plan to capture He Ziqiang? Everyone’s gone, what the hell are we supposed to catch!”

When Zhao Chengshuang arrived at the hospital, the Lin family had already been guarding the place. Quite a few people from the Lin family were injured and now staying in the hospital; nearly everyone from the Lin family was there.

As soon as Zhao Chengshuang approached, the Lin family immediately blocked him from entering.

”Zhao Chengshuang, what are you doing here? Your Zhao Family no longer has any relations with our Lin Family. How dare you show your face here?” Lin Yaqing glared furiously at Zhao Chengshuang. Thinking back to the slaps she received from Zhao Chengshuang’s grandfather last time, she was still seething with anger.

”Shut your mouth!” Zhao Chengshuang didn’t bother to save her any face and said, ”I’m here to find Lin Tianhao, the bastard. Is he dead or not?”

”How dare you speak like that!” Old Lady Lin just came out and, hearing these words, was immediately enraged and said, ”Zhao Chengshuang, I know you’re close with the Ye family. What? Did the Yes send you here to laugh at us? Let me tell you, don’t think you can just bully our Lin family. I’ve already reported this case to the provincial office. I don’t believe that Ye Qing can escape to the heavens.

I will make him pay a hundredfold for this incident!”

Zhao Chengshuang was particularly dissatisfied with Old Lady Lin, but he still didn’t dare to be too aggressive with her and coldly said, ”This is all the retribution of your Lin family; do you still have the face to push it further up the chain? I’d like to see who ends up losing face when this blows up!”

”Lose face? This incident has already become known throughout the city. If our Lin family doesn’t seek revenge, that would be the real disgrace!” Lin Yaqing said coldly, ”We must get justice. Otherwise, how can the Lin family continue to stand in Shenchuan City? This time, we must catch Ye Qing and sever his hand and foot tendons. We’ll make him return Tianhao’s sufferings a hundredfold.

We will have him torn to pieces, we...”

”Yaqing!” Old Lady Lin gave Lin Yaqing a disapproving glance and sternly said, ”After we catch him, we should just hand him over to the police. What right do we have to sever his tendons? If we do that, how are we any different from him? You’re a member of the Lin family, and we have always abided by the law. We’ll do the same in this case. But...”

Old Lady Lin gave Zhao Chengshuang a cold stare and said with gravity, ”If anyone tries to help Ye Qing in this, we will not let them go either. I want everyone to know that our Lin family is not to be messed with!”

Zhao Chengshuang shrugged his shoulders and said, ”Forget it, I see there’s no point in talking to you guys. Where’s Lin Tianhao? I need to talk to him and find out what happened.”

”It’s not your turn to ’find out what happened’!” Lin Yaqing gestured dismissively and said, ”Zhao Chengshuang, you’re not welcome here. Get lost quickly, don’t irritate us!”

Zhao Chengshuang was extremely annoyed but he couldn’t actually get in. The Lin family members were glaring at him like tigers eyeing their prey, their eyes filled with hostility as if Zhao Chengshuang and Ye Qing were in cahoots, as if it was Zhao Chengshuang who had injured them.
