My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1442: Chapter 1237: An Unpredictable Ending

Many people think that everything they do is correct, yet they never reflect on the mistakes they’ve made and the harm they’ve caused to others.

Others might forgive you repeatedly, but ultimately, the feelings they have for you can vanish due to the harm you’ve inflicted. At that moment, regretting is pointless; it’s always just one person making all the efforts between you.

After this thought, Zhang Yichen realized the person he’s most ashamed of is not someone else but his own father. It was his own forceful actions that took away the love his father should have received over the years. All of this was because of his own actions; he never considered how much loss he caused his father with his actions. That love was never meant for him—his grandfather gave it all to him, simply because he forcefully made his father unable to return home back then. He disagreed with letting him come home, so his grandfather heartlessly shut him out. Everything is because of himself that he made this family into what it is now. So now, what qualification or reason does he have to forcefully drive them out of the house again? Is this truly the result of what a son should do? After doing all this, did he really not have any recollections deep inside? He can’t find what he desires forever, yet he repeatedly hurts those who love him the most.

Zhang Zhentian couldn’t understand what reason could make his son so absent-minded for so long. His son lived a hard life and never complained to others about what he truly wanted. He believed as long as he could live, it was the greatest happiness on earth. He thought everything he wanted to achieve, no matter the means, he must obtain it; even if he couldn’t get it, he’d rather destroy it than let others have it. But now, his son’s demeanor causes him as a father to feel a bit reluctant in his heart.

”Child, no matter what you’ve done, I am your father, and I will always tolerate you. As long as you don’t misunderstand me time and time again, you should trust me. In any case, I am a son too, and it’s impossible for me to cruelly hurt my own father. Even though these years I haven’t been by his side, even though our relationship has distanced, he’s still my father, which cannot be changed by my will. I cannot abandon you all again and again; therefore, I will not hurt him. You should also have a little trust in your father when necessary; even a bit of trust would prevent this family from becoming what it is now.

Child, you know deep inside that throughout the years, we’ve never thought about hurting you. You all just suffer from a persecution complex. You always feel like we live in this house with hidden motives. Who wants to harm you? But we are part of this family, your relatives. How could we bear to hurt you? Hurting you yields no benefit to us. We’ve never considered how great losses and harm all of this would bring to us, you should also reflect on the feelings of us as parents. We are your parents, no matter what you say about us, we can overlook it, but it doesn’t mean that everything has no impact on me. I am not a Saint; I have blood, flesh, and soul. I face repeated doubts from my own family, and I also feel sad deep inside.”

Zhang Yichen knows that what his father said is reasonable, yet he cannot fully trust his parents because what they’ve done over the years is still vivid in his mind, and he has no means to forget. If there ever comes a day when he can forget all the wrongs, maybe he can truly accept them. Now that they can return and stay in this home, it’s already good enough. Why are they still so greedy for him to continue accepting them? Isn’t that forcing beyond one’s capacity? Every acceptance needs an adaptation period; without even the basic adaptation time given to him, how can he accept or discern right from wrong, to know if they have truly repented?

”Dad, I know, no matter what mistakes we made, in your eyes we are always your children; you won’t ask us. But it doesn’t mean the things you did, and the things I did, can be completely forgotten as if they never happened. Some things are painful memories, and they cannot be forgotten even now. You never considered how much harm you caused us. I cannot easily forget, can I? Now, grandpa truly cried because of what you said, so I angrily came here to question you, but I didn’t do it on purpose. If you see grandpa so sad now, can you really bear it in your heart?

Everyone’s experiences are indeed different, and the outcome of facing certain things is different too, but why does it always have to end this way? I know that over the years, the person who failed you the most was not grandpa but me. Because of me, grandpa channeled all the love meant for you onto me. He thought he owed you, that being kind to me equated to being kind to you; he believed as your son, I should bear the love meant for you. He treated me as you, when what he truly needed deep inside was you, not me. No matter how much good he spoke for me to outsiders, regardless of my presumed greatness, the person he truly needed and loved was eternally you; no one can change this.

The love between a father and son cannot be replaced by anyone.

If you truly feel some guilt towards grandpa in your heart, then please sincerely apologize to him. As time passes, we will forget all the previous unhappiness and unpleasantness, but it doesn’t mean grandpa can. The pain he endures is greater than anyone’s; what he desires is less than anyone’s, but what have we given him over the years? He repeatedly faces blows from everyone yet always stays silent. He bears all the pain alone because he knows that only by being strong can he protect those he wants to protect.

I’ve taken away the love you deserved for so many years, which is my fault. I sincerely apologize to you, and I never intended to hurt any of you with my actions. I only wish for my grandfather to be happy, always smiling, that’s my greatest happiness, because he gave me a second life. You should understand this feeling; my gratitude extends beyond any position. There’s no one whose place could surpass his importance to me deep inside, because he is my grandfather, the master of my second life!”

In a lifetime, everyone will encounter someone who sacrifices everything, including their life, for them. Similarly, one will also offer everything for someone they love deeply, but never thought they’d cause all these beloved ones to suffer greatly.
