My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1414: Chapter 1212: Who Hasn’t Been Hurt? (Part 3)

”Grandfather, I understand very clearly what you’re trying to convey with these words. I also realize that some things, just as you said, can’t be explained in a few words. However, at the very least, you ought to give me a reasonable explanation, right? I don’t care what attitude my father and great-grandfather used to forgive you and grandmother, but I can’t do what they did, with such broad minds. I really can’t just stand by and watch my grandparents right in front of me. I put my dignity aside to plead for your return home, yet you still refuse to give me a reasonable explanation for abandoning my father and us back then!

Perhaps deep down, you think abandonment isn’t a big deal. But do you know? For a child, abandonment is a huge issue. No child wants to be abandoned the moment they’re born. Nor can any child simply accept being abandoned by their parents, left behind to be cared for by an elderly grandparent, when they should be soaring freely. Can you imagine the psychological shadow this casts over a child? You’ve never considered my father’s feelings. Even now, if you’ve given him a reasonable explanation, what about me? Does it mean I’ve led a better life than my father did in his childhood?

My father and I have walked step by step to this day, putting in more effort than anyone else, experiencing challenges tougher than anyone else’s, all for what? Isn’t it simply to hope that you could come home, to prove to you that we’re not the worst, to let you realize how big a mistake abandoning us was? But in the end, the result has just left me wounded over and over again?

Grandfather, grandmother, no matter how you treat my father, or me, I just want to know what kind of mindset allowed you back then to decisively leave this family. What kind of mindset lets grandmother treat me like a stranger despite knowing I’m her grandson? Why did you step by step choose such an ending, why choose to hurt us in such a way rather than step up to protect us openly? Instead you hide, what impression do you think that gives others?”

”Child, grandfather and grandmother know that these years you’ve longed for us to step up to protect and accompany you. We also know, just like your father, you’ve been through many hardships. Because of those pains, we can’t compensate you. We’ve explained it clearly: it was a moment of rashness for personal freedom that led to the abandonment. We genuinely regret it now. You’ve decided to let us back into the family, can’t you truly accept us from the heart? Surface acceptance is never as meaningful as heartfelt acceptance. We want genuine recognition from your heart, that we’re family.

For everything we owe you, I will do my utmost to make amends. I won’t let such things happen again. I won’t let them harm you repeatedly. We already understand deeply the severity of our mistakes, and the shadows and blows they cast upon you. We won’t act impulsively as before, we’ll consider the bigger picture, and ask you to also see things from our perspective. Please don’t press us further; we truly can’t give you more detailed explanations.

The more explanations we give, the more you might feel we’re covering up the truth. But that’s truly not the case. We simply made the wrong decision at the time without realizing what would ensue. We’re now regrettably at this stage, forced by circumstances. I’m deeply remorseful. It’s not that I choose not to acknowledge you, but rather, I dare not. I’m afraid if I tell you I’m your grandmother, you’d turn and leave, and then I’d never see you again. I don’t want to leave a bad impression in your heart. I want to give you a perfect impression, hoping you’ll gradually accept me, rather than turn away at the first sight of me.”
