My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1405: Chapter 1210: I Don’t Hate You (Part 6)

There are times when I don’t know why I’ve become like this. I just want to be happy, but why is it so hard?

Zhang Yichen watched his wife bustling around in front of him, and suddenly felt very grateful that he had listened to his grandfather’s advice and didn’t ruthlessly drive his wife out the door. If it hadn’t been like this, where could he find such a virtuous wife to accompany him? This lifetime is just like this, only when you’re about to lose something do you realize how perfect and important it was.

”Zhihan, what will we do if grandfather suddenly leaves us? Over the years, we’ve become accustomed to his companionship. His care for us is meticulous, even wanting to give us all he considers the best, yet we’ve been unable to help him. Now he fights illness every day, which might become a prolonged battle. Seeing his struggle breaks my heart because I know what grandfather cares about, and I’m powerless to help him fulfill his deepest wishes. But I can’t do that, because I must consider grandfather’s feelings.

I can’t imagine if one day grandfather really leaves me, what will I do? My greatest hope in life is my grandfather, who has sacrificed so much for me, yet I’ve never given him any return. I’m unable to repay him. In the eyes of the world, I’m an economic emperor, but I can’t ensure my grandfather lives a long life.”

Ran Zhihan sighed, knowing what her husband wanted to say. Unsure whether voicing such sentiments was good or bad, her heart was conflicted and painful. There are many things she doesn’t want to consider, yet she has to make choices because without decisions, there’s no way forward. She can’t bear the weight of the outcome.

”Yichen, right now we shouldn’t think about anything else. We should consider how to live happily, how to let him or her live the life they want, and not continue to worry endlessly for us. His life has always centered around us. As long as he sees us happy, he feels it’s the happiest thing in the world. But we’ve never considered him; he needs our care, our companionship. He needs us always by his side!

I was so immature before, always fighting with you, causing grandfather to worry about us constantly. Seeing grandfather with greying hair, lying on the hospital bed, his pale face, my heart feels so heavy. But I don’t know what to say. I can only stand silently and watch grandfather suffer from illness. I’m afraid that if I speak, he might think his condition is serious. I don’t know how to comfort him. All I can think is if grandfather has a chance to recover, I’ll truly honor him for giving me my accomplishments today. He made my marriage so happy and perfect, he restored my nearly broken marriage to its original state!

We can’t do much, but the least we can do is accompany grandfather with gratitude, letting him live joyfully. I know grandfather has always wanted a surprise, a surprise that requires both of us to complete. So I’ve thought, we should give grandfather an early message. Perhaps, stimulated by excitement, his illness might dissipate quickly, allowing him to recover and be discharged soon. I know this is what you wanted to discuss with me today. You’ve been hesitating to bring it up, so you’ve been changing the subject!

Since I’ve proactively brought up this matter, you don’t have to feel conflicted anymore about how to talk about it. What needs to be said must be said, and what needs to be done must be done. There’s no absolute right or wrong; it’s only knowing or not knowing. Since we’ve decided to act, let’s make it worthwhile, letting grandfather recover and be discharged soon because of this good news!”

Zhang Yichen hadn’t expected his wife to consider everything so thoroughly for him. Knowing he was unsure how to broach the surprise, she took the initiative, sparing him awkwardness and enabling him to fulfill grandfather’s greatest hope.

”Thank you, wife. You are my greatest fortune in this life. Without a wife like you, how could I step by step live happily until now? You’ve seen me at my most painful moments; you should understand my urgent desire for happiness, even more pressing than others’. Grandfather’s illness and hospitalization, there are so many things I don’t know how to talk about. Should I tell my sister or not? But with you by my side, I always feel the warmth; you help me understand things over and over, guiding me to avoid confusion in all I do!”

Ran Zhihan didn’t know how to speak to her husband anymore. If she said she’d always accompany him, would it seem she lacked confidence, like someone clinging? But seeing her husband so vulnerable in front of her, how could her heart not be moved? She wanted to comfort him, wanted him to continue relying on her, a dependency lasting a lifetime, the unbreakable dependency between a couple.

”Let’s quickly make something delicious for grandfather. Since we’ve decided to surprise him, let’s prepare well, let him regain his health first. Then, one day we might give him the news he most desires!”

Although neither made it explicit, their eyes reflected happiness, a truly blissful thing for them. Happiness is truly simple; as long as a couple faces all challenges together, isn’t that the greatest joy and happiness?

The two bustled in the kitchen, preparing a nutritious dinner for Old Master Zhang. They were so busy, with laughter interrupting from time to time. They might never have imagined that within a few days the happy news would really come, making everyone eager and impatient.

”Dad, no matter what you both went through, I won’t hate you. You should know how much I miss mom. But I can’t help it; I must ensure mom doesn’t worry about me!”
