My Alleged Husband

Chapter 1408: Chapter 1211: Never Gave Up (Part 3)

”Little sister, maybe you don’t know, but from the first moment I saw you, I was deeply struck by you. My heart has been occupied by you. Will we meet again? Now, we are separated by the ends of the earth. I’m waiting for us to reunite. Are you also waiting to reunite again like I am?”

Old Master Zhang in the Zhang Family was unaware that his grandson met his predetermined granddaughter-in-law on his way to the United States. He was always waiting for his grandson to smoothly bring back the granddaughter-in-law he had lost. But will Heaven truly grant Old Master Zhang’s wishes?

Zhang Yichen didn’t tell Old Master Zhang about who he met at the airport, nor did he tell his grandfather what he was really thinking. He felt there was no need to report everything to his grandfather, believing he’s already an adult and should make his own decisions. When he saw Ran Zhihan, he was indeed moved, but now he felt conflicted. On one side was the girl from his dreams, and on the other was the girl he had just fallen for at first sight. He felt that no matter what he did, he would be letting one of them down...

After Zhang Yichen arrived in the United States, he forgot to call Old Master Zhang to assure him of his safety. Old Master Zhang waited the whole night, not receiving any call from his grandson, which made him a bit worried. He hurriedly got up and called his grandson.

Zhang Yichen saw the caller ID displaying his grandfather’s number, answered the call, and said to Old Master Zhang, ”Grandpa, why are you calling me? Do you miss me?”

Old Master Zhang was extremely happy to hear his grandson’s voice, having worried himself for nothing. He was truly concerned about any possible accident that might have befallen his grandson. If his grandson were harmed, how could he continue living?

”You really are a Forgetful King, aren’t you? Did you forget what Grandpa told you before you left? Didn’t I tell you to call me once you arrived to assure me of your safety? I’ve waited so long. Why didn’t you call? Did something happen?” Old Master Zhang asked anxiously.

”Grandpa, you’re overthinking. I’m an adult now, what could happen to me? I was just delayed by some things. Besides, I’m here to discuss business. Once I arrived, I got busy and forgot to call to assure you of my safety. Sorry for worrying you, Grandpa.”

Old Master Zhang felt that his grandson was hiding something because he noticed something off in his grandson’s tone. He desperately wanted to know what matter was causing his grandson to choose to hide it. Over the years, his grandson had never kept anything from him; this was the first time. Could this matter be related to him, or did Yichen meet someone?

”Yichen, are you hiding something from Grandpa? Why does it seem like you’re speaking strangely to me? If you have anything, you must tell Grandpa. Over these many years, you know well the relationship between us!” Old Master Zhang questioned Zhang Yichen.

Zhang Yichen didn’t expect his grandfather’s intuition to be so keen, which made him even more determined not to tell his grandfather about this matter.

”Grandpa, you’re overthinking. I truly have nothing I haven’t told you. It’s getting late; you should rest early and not worry about me anymore. Once I settle the business here, I’ll choose to come back home and stay by your side. During this time, take good care of yourself; don’t overwork.”

”Alright, you rest early too!”

With that, the two hung up the phone. After hanging up, Zhang Yichen remained uneasy. This unease wasn’t for any other reason but his conscience. He felt that over the years, his grandpa had been as good to him as one could be, leaving everything for him. His grandpa wouldn’t eat or wear much, leaving everything for him. But what about himself? Why hide things from Grandpa? Would telling his grandfather really harm him? He felt utterly conflicted inside, uncertain about what he should do. He wanted to take charge of his life, yet he couldn’t bear to not be filial, couldn’t let his grandfather, who had sacrificed so much for him, feel betrayed by his repetition of concealment. He feared if one day his grandfather discovered he had been hiding something all along, and especially if it were something concealed deliberately, how heartbroken he would be. He couldn’t allow that to happen. He couldn’t let the grandparent who loved him most be hurt again by his own emotional whims. He knew what happened before he lost his memory, yet he chose not to speak of it. Perhaps only by doing so could he escape the past. Though he vaguely remembered some events before his amnesia, he completely forgot the woman he once loved, unaware of the silhouette that often appeared in his dreams, a silhouette he longed to catch, one that was missing from the depths of his heart.
