My Alleged Husband

Chapter 694: Chapter 664: If Time Flows Backward (Part 2)_1

Old Master Zhang didn’t know when it happened, but he found himself standing at the door of his grandson’s room. He heard his daughter-in-law utter these words and felt a bit incredulous too. He always thought she was living so strongly, yet he didn’t realize that there were such bitter moments in her life. It seems not everyone necessarily lives happily ever after.

When he first heard those words, he was also momentarily dazed. He didn’t know whether to feel lucky for his son or to feel sorrow. His most beloved wife had been thinking of another man in her heart for so many years, yet he had given all his love to his wife. In the end, he didn’t know who his wife truly loved in her heart.

The silver lining, however, was that his wife had always stayed by his side in her heart, never once thinking of leaving him throughout all those years.

Perhaps Heaven really is fair after all. It gives you certain kinds of love, only to take back what you cherish most. Over and over again, until you forget which path to choose. Heaven sure does have a sense of humor. Every time you dedicate all your energy to someone, it often leads you down a path of no return, where you are destined to live in torment. It’s envious of you, disapproving of your actions, so it decides to enact divine retribution on behalf of others, to torment you time and time again until you’re overwhelmed by the pain. That’s the true Heaven; that’s the true face of fate.

Zhang Yichen saw Old Master Zhang standing outside the door and felt a little embarrassed. His mother had revealed all the thoughts he had harbored in his heart for so many years, but his grandfather had been at the door hearing everything. He didn’t know if his grandfather would tell his father about all this. If so, whether his parents’ marriage could be preserved was uncertain. He didn’t want such a thing to happen, even if in the end his parents didn’t want to stay by his side. He didn’t wish for his parents’ relationship to fall apart.

”Grandpa, how come you’re here? I thought you would be downstairs talking with my dad. I didn’t expect you’d come up to see me. I really don’t know why you’re here today. We haven’t had a quiet chat in a long time. Today seems like the perfect opportunity. Let’s sit down and have a good talk!”

”Don’t speak for now. I already heard everything you were discussing. I just want to clarify one thing. Is what your mother said the truth? If she never loved my son all these years, why did she keep him by her side, making my son give up his whole family, abandoning me, his father? I never thought my son would truly leave me one day. I thought, no matter what, he would stay by my side. Even if his wife requested him to leave, he wouldn’t, but I really didn’t expect he would choose to leave me. Do you know how painful that is?”

”When you made these decisions, did you ever consider what role your own husband had? Did you think about how much pain your behavior could cause him? You may not feel there’s anything wrong with what you’re doing, but do you understand how it hurts your husband inside? All he wanted was for his wife to be steadily by his side. Yet, you brought him such hurt by treating him as a backup option, as if he was worthless, assuming that everything he did for you was natural. But do you know that all the love he gave was because he loved you? If he didn’t love you, why would he exhaust himself so much for you?”

”If the two of you are together, and you don’t love him in your heart, please don’t cling to him and let go sooner. That would be best for both of you. If you insist on staying by his side, without love in your heart, treating him like a convenience store, then do you think you can be happy? And do you think my son could be happy? As a father, I wouldn’t want my child to be hurt even a little. She once left you and this family for your sake, and I already regretted driving her out of the house. But today, hearing you say such things, I regret even more that I agreed to let you be together. Why is it that every decision I make, you prove with facts that I was wrong?”

”I never imagined that one day my daughter-in-law would speak so candidly about her heart’s secrets that she had kept for so many years. I never thought that your so-called truth would make my son feel so embarrassed and passive. If he heard what you said, how disappointed would his heart be, and how much despair would he feel towards you? Have you ever thought about that? Always occupied with your own happiness yet failing to consider the people you love most.”

”I feel sad for my son. He gave you all his love, but you hurt him with your actions. I truly don’t understand what it would take to make you see how much my son really loves you. Why must you put him in such an awkward situation? His love for you is not one bit less, he would abandon the most important people in his family, just hoping to stay together with you. But what have your actions turned his love into?”

”I must admit, if I were given another chance now, I would strongly object to your being together, because your actions have deeply disappointed me. I didn’t expect that the kind girl who seemed to be saving the company for my sake had such deep scheming. What exactly do you take our family for? Are you showing off your smartness? Why do you make others the stepping stone time and again? It would have been enough for you to be content with being with him, yet you keep embarrassing us!”

”Grandpa, my mom didn’t mean it like that. Don’t be angry. Perhaps you didn’t hear everything clearly. My mom actually still loves my dad. Don’t be mad, okay? Please let my mom explain to you. Maybe after you hear my mom’s explanation, you won’t be so angry anymore...”
