My Alleged Husband

Chapter 674: Chapter 644 I Am Not Heartless_1

Old Master Zhang had no desire whatsoever to know what sort of words his own son had contrived.

In his eyes, most of the words uttered by his son were lies, one begat another, and once the first lie was told, there followed a succession of even greater falsehoods, leaving him utterly unable to comprehend.

Old Master Zhang believed that lies were not sustainable, and that only by repeatedly telling the truth at the right time to expose it to everyone could an understandable answer eventually be obtained. Yet, why did he choose time and again to treat everything as a lie, deceiving others and, in turn, injuring himself?

No one in this world is willing to be continuously deceived by a string of lies; everyone knows that once a lie is exposed, it is no longer the perfect façade it once was. After all, a lie is just a lie, and you can’t wrap fire with paper; even the most ingeniously crafted lie will eventually show its flaws over time. At that moment, what kind of ending will you choose to face in this life?

”Zhentian, you should be very clear about what the consequences of each choice you make are. Since you made such a decision in the beginning, what right do you have to stand here today and speak such heartless and disloyal words to your son? I know what you want to say, but have you considered how painful it is for the listener to hear every word you say? Time and again you only care about what’s in your heart, never about what the audience feels. This, as a father, terrifies me. I have never feared anyone, but today I am truly afraid—not of someone else, but of my own flesh and blood, my own son.

Can you not consider others a little when you do things? Is it really good to be so arbitrary? Time and again you push others far away; do you think you can be happy and joyful by yourself? You have never thought about what kind of life you want, only doing what you want based on your own stubborn beliefs, with no regard for the torture those standing behind you endure. You think being happy is enough, but what about those relatives who, because of you, repeatedly worry? Do they really deserve to worry about you?

I shouldn’t be too heartless with my words, but I truly hope you understand that you shouldn’t go too far or be too ruthless in your actions. No one in this world owes you anything, and every decision you make will eventually have to be paid for equally. When you hurt others over and over again, one day someone will stand above you and trample you under their feet. At that moment, what will your heart feel? Won’t you feel humiliated, won’t you feel desperate? People are reciprocal; if you show a little more respect and trust to others, how can they continuously disrespect and distrust you?

What’s done is done; don’t keep looking for excuses to escape, excuse after excuse. Excuses will always remain just that; they won’t wipe away your past actions like dust. So don’t harbor the luck that if something hasn’t been exposed today, you can freely think about what kind of lies you will use to deceive others next time. Often, the people you can deceive are the ones who care and love you the most. Will those who don’t care about you believe every word you say? Of course not—even you don’t understand this most basic principle. Do you have to again and again break the hearts of all those who care about you to be content? Once you destroy the feelings of everyone towards you, do you think you can still live a happy life alone?

I know what you’ve been through over the years. Although I drove you out of the house, I have always been paying close attention to your every move, and I have never reached out to help, because I know that you must grow up step by step on your own efforts. If I protect you too well again and again, you will eventually go astray into an irredeemable abyss. As your biological father, I cannot bear to watch my own son walk down that path while I stand by and do nothing. I truly cannot do that.

Now that your son is so outstanding, he is my pride and the pride of the entire family. You have no right to accuse him, nor do you have any right to criticize him. Everything he does is for the good of the whole family. What about you? You abandoned the entire family and your own son for your selfish emotions. From that point alone, you no longer deserve to be a member of the Zhang Family. What right do you have to point fingers now? When you criticize your son’s actions again and again, do you, as a father, also consider what kind of father you are? Are your actions towards your son truly adequate? Are you fit to be a father, and are you a qualified and competent father?”

Zhentian was left speechless by his own father’s words. They both knew deep down that all of this was the result of his own arbitrariness, so what reason did he have to blame others? The only thing to do was to bury all the bitterness deep within himself, and perhaps the outcome would be different. He knew well that some matters had nothing to do with him, yet he could not choose another way to resolve them, only to swallow his pride in silence. He wasn’t heartless or unfeeling; he just didn’t know how to deal with these issues. He only knew that if he lived happily, perhaps others would follow. But he forgot that not everyone shared the same goals or capacity for emotional endurance. It was his oblivious ignorance that caused all his loved ones to be heartbroken by his actions. While others were grieving for him, he foolishly believed that the whole world was living joyfully because of him.
