My Alleged Husband

Chapter 680: Chapter 650: Sorry_1

Zhang Zhentian heard Zhang Ni addressing him but didn’t know how to reply.

Over the years, he had ultimately failed his grandson. If he hadn’t stubbornly decided to leave his family back then, how could everyone in this household have ended up the way they are now?

That everything had turned out this way was no one’s fault but his own. Who hasn’t taken a wrong turn? Yet the mistakes he had made were too profound, beyond any chance of restitution. He had truly wanted to stay and cherish his family. Yet now, he didn’t understand why he had ultimately decided to leave. In the past, he had been so foolish, abandoning his entire family and letting his loved ones who adored him suffer time after time.

”Child, I’m sorry. Grandfather didn’t realize. The decisions Grandfather made hurt you, and I hope you can forgive Grandfather, okay? You really didn’t mean it. If time could truly be reversed, Grandfather would certainly choose to stay, come back to your side, and take care of you, so you could feel Grandfather and Grandmother’s love from the moment you were born. But in the end, we never gave you the love you needed, and you may have felt we didn’t love you.

But do you know, Grandfather and Grandmother really like you? Grandfather and Grandmother have always silently watched your every move. We know how hard you train, like a devil, and what it’s for. We never say it, but Grandfather and Grandmother have paid attention to every detail, seen every injury you’ve suffered in training. Do you know how much it breaks our hearts to see you in pain? But because of our previous relationship with your parents, it really wasn’t easy for us to come out and see you. We still hope that you can forgive us...”

Zhang Ni had never expected his grandfather to humble himself and speak to him in this way. He felt torn inside. While he deeply resented his grandparents for their absence, he also felt indescribably lonely when he saw other children with their grandparents.

Gradually, he had become numb. He didn’t know what kind of life he truly wanted. Seeing other children happily accompanied by their grandparents, he realized they didn’t have to mature as fast as he did. On the one hand, he felt proud of his precocious understanding, but upon reflection, what did all the hurtful things he said really amount to? They were nothing but trivial trials and tribulations.

”I really want to ask, why didn’t you, my grandparents, want to stay by my side? This isn’t something I can just forgive. Maybe you don’t know, each time I went out, how envious I was when I saw other children with their grandparents. I longed for my grandparents to treat me the same. And each time I returned home, I found only my dad, mom, and the great-grandfather who loved me the most, while my grandparents were somewhere out there enjoying their lives. Time and again I prayed to the heavens for my grandparents to come back, even if it was just to glance at me.

But each time I got home, I ended up disappointed. I never saw my grandparents waiting at home for me. I don’t even know what they look like. So today, when I saw the two of you standing here, I felt unfamiliar, yet there was also a sense of kinship. I don’t understand these feelings. I know that maybe you had no choice but to leave. You must have had your reasons. But did you ever consider coming back to stay with us? Whether it’s dad, mom, great-grandfather, or me, we all wished for your company. Why have you always chosen to ignore the feelings of your family, thinking only of yourselves out there?”

Even though you never told me, I knew that over the years, you were neither happy nor satisfied elsewhere. Because only family by one’s side can bring true happiness, and only a life with loved ones can be considered perfect. I might be too young to understand these things fully, yet I comprehend some basics. I know what should and shouldn’t be done, and that some things, once done, can never be undone. You chose to abandon our entire family and shirk the responsibilities of your heritage. Did you consider how desperate that moment was? How much he yearned for you to live happily in this family, exhausting all his rights just to give you a joyous home, all for you to live without worry. But the decision you made in the end broke his heart. He is old now, white-haired and withered. When I look at his face and his hair, I feel their sorrow.

Without his own child by his side, he waits over and over for a return that only ends in despair. How is he to cope with these feelings? Have any of you ever considered what he wanted in his heart? You’ve always selfishly done as you pleased. Have you truly treated him as family? To treat a family member this way is to inflict wounds all over their body, and in the end, you will lose these family members!”

”Child, I’m sorry. It was Grandfather and Grandmother’s mistake. You understand these truths. Why don’t Grandfather and Grandmother understand them? Perhaps Grandfather and Grandmother were too fixated and favoring, and that’s why everything ended up like this. I’m really sorry, so sorry. You’ve suffered these years. Can you forgive your Grandfather and Grandmother? If you can forgive us, we are willing to stay here for the rest of our lives to take good care of you, to make up for these years of neglect, and let you live a happy life, okay...”
