My Alleged Husband

Chapter 666: Chapter 639: Indistinct Ties_1

”It seems that we now have no way to clear these matters up, and if such issues could be so easily clarified, there would be no such thorny difficulties, and you would not have clung to this matter again and again. It appears that in the end, all of this is nothing but the consequences of my own mistakes coming back to haunt me. Had I known that things would end this way, I would never have left your side, no matter what. I would have stayed with you, ensured you lived a life of happiness, which perhaps is the most important thing for anyone. Yet for me, it is a height I can never reach in this lifetime.”

”Child, you are our flesh and blood son. Is it really so difficult for you to forgive your parents for their past faults? We have sincerely admitted our mistakes right here, yet why can’t you forgive us? Is it because we abandoned you, weren’t there to accompany you, that you have decided to hold on to this matter for a lifetime? Don’t you think that such a grudge will only wear you down? Do you actually wish to live with this emotional burden for the rest of your life? If you’re willing to carry this weight, then we as your parents are powerless to make amends for what we’ve said and done. But we really want to know, what do these past errors amount to? Why can’t you just forgive us? If you, as a son, were willing to have a proper conversation with us, your parents, why would we be in the situation we are today? You have never considered where you might be at fault!”

”Enough, there’s no need for you all to argue anymore. Is it necessary to quarrel over such trivial matters for so long? Continuously arguing over a commonplace issue, do you find it interesting? Don’t you realize that in going back and forth, in the end, it only makes everyone look bad? Are you not aware that the more you speak, the uglier it gets, and the more embarrassing it becomes for everyone involved? You’re all adults. Is there really a need to continue this petty bickering over things from the past? Adults should act their age, not be the butt of others’ jokes. Every action you take affects the image of our family and your own. Don’t you care, at least a little, about your own reputation, if not the family’s? Stop making a scene like fishwives, time and again. Do you think this is appropriate? You’re grown-ups; why persist on these minor issues, causing yourselves endless internal pain? Watching each other suffer, does it truly bring you happiness, joy in your hearts? You all are at heart unwilling to part, so why utter such cruel and harsh words to wound each other? Do you really want to hurt each other so much that you’re left with everlasting pain? Is that the outcome you truly desire in your hearts?”

Old Master Zhang interjected at just the right moment, knowing that if things continued to escalate, the argument would only worsen, negating all his efforts. He knew he had to intervene to quiet things down.”

”You have been arguing for so many years; I don’t understand why you’ve held on to this matter for so long. Do you really think there is any point in continuing like this? Clinging to this issue, does it truly make you happy, fulfilled? Knowing full well what the final result will be, yet still repeatedly hurting each other—is this the happiness you seek, the joy of seeing your family live happily together? You never care for the feelings of others, just arguing endlessly. Does that solve anything? It’s time for you to use your brains, to think about how you should handle this matter, to give others a proper explanation. Consider whether your actions have been wrong, and reflect on whether the words you spoke have harmed others. If your words have hurt someone, then what right do you have to expect their respect? Respect is mutual; if you don’t respect others, why should they respect you? If you don’t care about others, why should they repeatedly regard you as so important in their hearts? People aren’t fools.”
