My Alleged Husband

Chapter 672: Chapter 642: Good Daughter-in-law_1

Zhang Zhentian, upon hearing his daughter-in-law utter such moving words, was truly touched. He had never considered that his daughter-in-law could be so sensible and understanding. If he had not meddled in their relationship back then, would they perhaps have not reached this point today? Reflecting on his past actions, he realized they truly chilled everyone’s heart. How could he have been so foolish as to think of preventing his son from attaining lifelong happiness? A daughter-in-law as wonderful as her was rare in this world. He was profoundly grateful to the heavens for giving his son such a good wife and himself such an excellent daughter-in-law; this was the luckiest thing in his life. He was overjoyed, and no matter what the final outcome, he felt no regrets. As long as everyone could live happily, that was the greatest comfort for all, and there was no need to forcibly yearn for anything more.

”Yichen, you are really fortunate to have such a kind and lovely wife by your side. You are truly very happy, much more so than your father. Of course, when I say this to you, I’m not implying that your mother is bad in any way. It’s just that Dad wasn’t as lucky as you. Actually, your wife is quite remarkable. Her way of handling things is unique. Everything she does, she considers others. Do you understand? A wife like her is the best kind. I hope you will cherish her and not let personal reasons break her heart. Good people are hard to find in this world, especially such kind and lovable wives. She has already worried herself sick for you. I hope you will treat her well!”

Maybe we’ll never get the chance to sit down and chat together like today in our lifetimes again. But Dad really hopes you know that when you followed your wife’s advice and forgave us, your parents’ hearts were truly moved. First, we were moved by how understanding your wife is, by the sacrifices she has made for the family. Second, the thing that touched your parents the most was that you heeded your wife, thus choosing to forgive your father and mother. Because your wife gave you a way out, and you smoothly took it, and it pleases us most as parents. Because you haven’t held your status above everything else, and you realize that eventually, your parents will be with you, so you also see your parents as very important. This fills my heart with joy and happiness. In my life, I don’t have much, nor do I ask for much. As long as your family is happy and content, that’s enough. Your parents wouldn’t mind never stepping foot in this house again, but we cannot bear to watch our child live an unhappy marriage. That would be the deepest pain in our hearts as parents, a pain I can’t bear to result from my actions. Your parents might be selfish, not once considering your feelings, but do you know? We really regard you very highly, and time and again, we would go through fire and brimstone for you. Yet, we never thought that our arbitrary decisions might end up hurting you, the most loving heart we have, the one you dutifully hold for your grandfather.

There are things you don’t say, but your parents understand, and your mother owes you so much. Everything you have come from your grandfather, so how can your parents hate you or blame you? We are only grateful for your grandfather, because he gave us a different life, because he made my son so outstanding. It’s him who brought out a new generation of talent in our family. All of these can be attributed to your grandfather’s teaching. We may not have been by your side these years, and that is our greatest guilt. We might not have any way to make up for it, but we can ensure you’ll never want for anything in life!”

”Actually, you don’t need to say these words to me. I chose to forgive you today not just because of my wife, but because deep down, I never truly wanted to hate you. If I ever truly held someone deep in my heart and despised them, I would never give them the chance to stay by my side. Because that would be like planting a time bomb next to me, ready to explode at any moment, which I simply couldn’t bear.

You’ve experienced too much these years outside, more than I could ever understand. But I really hope you know how happy it makes me that my wife made this decision. I don’t know how best to treat her, but she has never been wasteful with a single penny by my side, always so thrifty and good at managing our household. To me, I really am very fortunate and lucky!”

And as you said, all my achievements in life are because of my grandfather’s teaching. I could never abandon my grandfather for anything else. Even if the whole world were to collapse, I would stand tall for my grandfather, making sure he can live out his years in comfort under my wing. I would ensure my grandfather lives a happy and carefree life, without the burdens of trivial matters. He has endured so much already. His life should have been splendid, so why should he have his heart broken again and again over trivial matters? He has already lived a life too exhausting. He has given me everything that no one else could, and he taught me what gratitude and love are. I also know that it is because of my grandfather that I have achieved all this today, and also because of him that you left this house. I hope you won’t hold any resentment towards grandfather. Everything he’s done was for the good of the family, for your sake. Your decisive departure has deeply hurt grandfather; please forgive him generously and don’t let him be hurt over and over again by any words you say. He is just an old man, and he can’t take such blows!”
