My Alleged Husband

Chapter 671: Chapter 641: Forgiveness_1

”Husband, although you think what I’m saying makes a lot of sense, shouldn’t you forgive your own parents and stop arguing with them? It’s very painful for you to keep this up, and I can’t bear to see you in such agony. You’re the man I love most in my life; how could I stand to see you suffer alone like that? But as your wife, how can my heart not ache? Others might not care about how you feel inside, but as your wife, I absolutely care about every single one of your feelings. How could I not know the depth of your pain? I really don’t ask for much—not much at all. I just want you to be able to live peacefully. Husband, in this lifetime, we may have to accept different decisions and different lives, but we must always hold each other’s hands tightly and never part. If you truly believe what I’m saying makes sense, then forgive them. After all, they are parents, and if our actions prevent them from ever returning home, how guilty and evil would we feel inside? To keep our own parents out of their home, that’s not something we would do, is it? We can’t let others laugh at us for being petty. We should proudly forgive those who hurt and abandoned us, as that is the true and best way to get revenge—by making them suffer with guilt, right?”

”They must think that the person they’ve hurt would never forgive them, yet they couldn’t possibly imagine that someone they’ve hurt so deeply would, in the end, choose to forgive them so easily. How guilty that must make them feel. They would definitely regret every decision to hurt such a good person, wondering how they could have been so cruel. If we make this decision, they will never again find a way to hurt us. Why keep complicating matters? Isn’t it best to simply live the life we deserve? Why let your heart suffer over and over again?”

Zhang Yichen didn’t know how to respond to any of the words his wife had said. He only knew she had made a lot of sense, and each statement had struck a chord in his heart. But he just couldn’t bring himself to forgive his parents; it felt like losing face. If he let them back into his life so easily, wouldn’t he lack integrity? If it was so easy for them to come back, wouldn’t they just hurt him again like before? With no assurance against further harm, why should he choose to forgive them? Wasn’t it better to let them remember this lesson forever, to understand the painful consequences of abandonment? Maybe then they would behave better, right?

”Dear, I know what’s on your mind, but I hope you understand that doing things your way isn’t always right. One day, you’ll realize that some things require deep thought and a proper approach. When our parents turned us away, wouldn’t people mock us for our lack of magnanimity? They say, ’A great man is like a great river: he can accept all streams.’ So why expose these things? Don’t let our parents’ mistakes forever weigh on us. I’m in agony, and you have the chance to forgive them and let them try to stay by your side, to take care of you. If they don’t do right by you, you can always send them away later. By denying them even a chance and so easily shutting them out, you’re going too far. You’re an educated person; you know our educations have been different. Why let others ridicule us for our small-mindedness?”

”Husband, you know how much face matters to Grandpa, his own dignity. Since he abandoned Jin Guang, shouldn’t you uphold your so-called ’dignity’ for his sake? If others found out, they would surely mock Grandpa and say he’s taught Sun Wufang. Can you really bear to hear others mock the man who’s sacrificed so much for you? Are you willing to give nothing back, to see your own grandfather suffer unbearably because of you? I’m sure you don’t want to see this result for anyone, but you don’t know how to solve it. Now I’ve told you all the ways. What you do next is up to your conscience. If you really want to discard your grandfather and let him look so unsightly, then disregard everything I’ve said. He’s still your grandfather. I hope you think carefully because whatever decision you make now, you must live with it. There won’t be a chance to turn back, nor will you be given any opportunity to make amends. You must think clearly about what you’ve done wrong before acting to ensure a better future.”

Zhang Yichen felt very conflicted and pained; he didn’t know what decision to make. It was impossible to hate his parents, but should he put on a magnanimous front just so everyone knew what kind of a family man he was? Why keep paying a heavy price just so others could take him for granted?

”Alright, this time I’ll listen to you. I choose to forgive my parents. But I hope they can promise me never to abandon me carelessly like they did before. I can’t bear their repeated hurt. I’m an ordinary person with feelings because they have abandoned me as well. In this lifetime, I will never again give them the chance because I can’t do it...”
