My Alleged Husband

Chapter 678: Chapter 648: Let’s Go Home!_1

Old Master Zhang knew that Zhang Zhentian was now filled with regret!

In fact, deep down she was very clear about what could cause her son to say things, to do things, and what the ultimate outcome would be. Her understanding was clearer than anyone else’s. However, sometimes she just had to keep these thoughts to herself. She knew that once some words were said, their meaning would change. Why put herself into such an awkward position, when her family could happily chat together? For so many years, she had awaited the day her child would return to her side, and today, it had finally come. How could her heart not be moved, not feel sentimental?

Similarly, how could Zhentian not understand what his biological father must be feeling inside? He had been away from home for so many years and had never been by his family’s side. They had lacked his companionship for over a decade. As a son, he had not fulfilled his responsibilities, and as a father, he had not lived up to his duties to his own son. Never in his life had he been fully committed to his tasks, and he really did not understand why he had chosen this path, which had ultimately taken away his family’s peaceful and happy life. All these results were the consequences of his own actions. Who else could he blame?

Nothing in life ever goes entirely smoothly. Some things, once they’ve happened, cannot be undone by anyone’s words and every decision made comes with a heavy price.

Yichen, watching the unspoken understanding between his grandfather and his father, knew it was time for him to voice the most important sentiment.

”Enough, neither of you need to say anything more. Since a decision has been made, let me now tell you my final decision. You all have been wandering the world for many years; it’s time to come home. Not because I’ve chosen to forgive you, but because I must make a decision, for everyone’s sake. This decision may be agonizing for you, but I believe it would be the happiest thing for Grandpa. He has sacrificed so much for me; how could I, because of my own issues, prevent you from coming home, and let my grandpa endure the agony of separation yet again? I won’t let Grandpa suffer such pain once more!

”He loves me so much and has given me the very best of everything, and I only wish for him to live a healthy life. My grandpa is the one who loves me the most; I must ensure he lives a happy, carefree life.”

Zhentian could not grasp the meaning of the words his son was saying. He did not want to know what he should do to lessen the hostility his son felt towards him. Perhaps once certain things occur, there really is no way to make amends. He had hurt those he loved the most, causing them so much distress and injury. Maybe now, fate allows them to retaliate, leaving him no way to live a joyful life.

Although Zhentian did not understand his son’s words, Old Master Zhang heard them very clearly.

He understood what his grandson’s words meant; perhaps their once shattered family could be restored to its original state.

Even if that state was not exactly what he had wished for, wasn’t it still a very happy family? What could be more important than living joyfully together as a family? Perhaps he had valued some things too much in the past, or cared too little, which led to the current turn of events. If only he had yielded a little, might the outcome not be what it is now? He really did not understand what decision he had made back then, what reason had driven him to push his own son out of their home.

That was his own son, after all. Regardless of the reason, he should not have been driven out; he deserved to live happily and blissfully in this world.

”Since I’ve already said this much, you might as well come back. I hope that when you return this time, you will not repeat the actions that made everyone look bad. I also hope that you can let Grandpa live out his days joyfully. These past years have been very tough on him because your abandonment caused him great harm. It might seem trivial to you, but to my grandfather, it has caused too much pain. So please, when you do things in the future, even if you disregard my feelings, at least consider our elderly grandfather. He has truly suffered much, receiving no recompense in return, and it’s something I can’t bear to witness. He is my grandfather, and how could I not want the best for him, to let him silently weep alone, while I, his grandson, stand by powerless? I can only watch, unable to extend a helping hand. Do you know how helpless that feels?”

Old Master Zhang, hearing these words from his grandson, was deeply moved. His years of affection for his grandson had not been in vain. His grandson had always considered him the closest person, always thinking of his point of view. Inside, Old Master Zhang was deeply touched. If everyone in the world were so grateful and dutiful, then what would be the regret of his life? At least he could take solace in the fact that he had loved his dearest kin to the fullest.
