Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 295: Chapter 221: Preparing to Leave (3)

”Thank you, master.” Old Zhang happily agreed, signaling the other two to pack up the leftover food.

”Old Zhang, earlier it was Liu Bo who sent you here. You should know why, right?”

Speaking of this matter, it’s necessary to mention that when Liu Bo helped them buy these long-term workers, each was carefully selected.

Among them were two middle-aged couples with children, the oldest being four or five years old and the youngest only one or two.

As for Old Zhang, although he’s a loner, his wife and children are at the Liu family in the county town.

And Old Zhang himself used to be a bookkeeper for someone else. Because he cooked the books, he was sold by his employer. This is also why Liu Bo left his family in the county town.

When Old Zhang heard Jiang Hu say this, he understood completely and quickly said, ”I know, I know. Master Liu said I am here to help the master manage the fields.”

However, Master Liu also said that before the Jiang family leaves Fu’an Village, no one should know about this, and usually, he should pretend to be just an ordinary long-term worker.

But usually, when Jiang Hu went out, he would specifically take him along to let him know what was happening at home every day.

Since his wife and children were in the county, and his life with the Jiang family was not bad—much better than he expected, Old Zhang dared not harbor any ill intentions. He diligently played the role of a long-term worker, as instructed.

Upon hearing Jiang Hu bring this up, Old Zhang immediately understood, bent over, and nodded repeatedly: ”I will follow the master’s arrangements in everything.”

”Alright, the crops in the fields will be in your hands from now on. You’ve been coming and going with me for this whole year, and you must be clear about the situation at home.”

Old Zhang was taken aback and asked in surprise, ”Master, are you leaving?”

Though he knew this day would come sooner or later, he couldn’t help being surprised.

Even Second Madam was surprised. She knew they were leaving but didn’t expect it to be now.

However, Jiang Hu had already made up his mind and nodded, ”That’s right. We will leave early tomorrow. Afterward, Liu family’s steward will come with my letter to collect the grain. Just follow the instructions then.”

”Also, for the time being, this matter should remain confidential. I will write a letter for you later. After dark tomorrow afternoon, help me pass it to Liu Yang.”

Old Zhang quickly indicated he understood, saying he would warn the others to keep this secret for now.

The children of the long-term workers were already asleep, so Jiang Hu only called over the other two couples, similarly reminding them that Old Zhang would be in charge of the household, overseeing the fields.

After they busied themselves, Jiang Hu pulled Second Madam back to the room.

”Second Madam, please pack up some things first. Just the personal items, a change of clothes, and bring the home’s silver coins. I will go notify the children.”

As Jiang Hu turned to leave, Second Madam pulled him back: ”Why so hurried? Didn’t we say we’d wait a few days? Tomorrow is the Lantern Festival.”

”The village head mentioned the eldest son’s marriage again. You heard it too. Since we’re leaving anyway, better to leave early and find some peace. Otherwise, in the coming days, they’ll keep urging us.”

In fact, the decision for the Jiang family to go to the county had long been made.

In the past few days, Jiang Hu and Second Madam had discussed it several times.

Initially, they were somewhat uncertain, but Auntie Xie’s insistence on matchmaking made them make up their minds.

Even though they tried to keep a low profile, the Jiang family still stood out too much in the neighboring areas. It was manageable before, but now that the children are growing up, people are starting to take notice.

Auntie Xie is just the first one; she won’t be the last.

These days, Jiang Hu thought not just of the eldest son, Jiang Yu, but mainly of his daughter.

Especially Xiaoxue.

After all, Xiaoxue will be ten this year. In two or three more years, people will start matchmaking for her.

Before, Liu Bo said something he quite agreed with.

Remaining in Fu’an Village, Xiaoxue’s future husband can only be chosen from nearby villages.

Not that Jiang Hu had high standards, he just thought his daughter, who is also a decently skilled embroideress, could earn one or two hundred copper coins from a piece of embroidery, more than many men of the house make.

In addition, his daughter could read and write, with a gentle temperament, not impatient nor hasty. Although it’s wishful thinking to marry into a wealthy family, finding a well-off family shouldn’t be a problem.

Jiang Hu didn’t want Xiaoxue to marry just anyone.

Of course, this was just one consideration; another was Wei Ziang and Jiang Wei. Both were good at studying, and sooner or later, they would go to the county for education.

Once these two brothers left, there would be even fewer people at home. Both emotionally and logically, his desire to move to the county outweighed staying in Fu’an Village.

Moreover, it was better to go early than late. While the children were still young, they could get familiar with the surroundings of the county.

Most importantly, this time when Jiang Yu returned home, Liu Bo had already sent someone to deliver the travel permits.

In other words, the matter of leaving Fu’an Village had been settled, just that the children were not informed, nor was the village.

The village head’s words earlier only moved up their departure date.
