Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 274: Chapter 214: Shortbow_3

Wei Ziang shook his head: ”Not sure, maybe I used to; anyway, I feel like I should be able to handle a bit of shooting or something like that.”

Xiaomi put the short bow back in the box: ”That would be great, I’ll start practicing tomorrow. Maybe after a year or so, I’ll be able to hunt by myself.”

Speaking of hunting, Xiaomi’s face lit up, as if she were about to head up the mountain.

Amidst the conversation, Xiaoxue came over to call them to dinner. Winter days are cold, and it gets dark early, so dinner is also early.

After dinner, those who were tired and sleepy went back to their rooms to rest.

For those who didn’t want to sleep, Erniang would light a fire in front of the kitchen door. Everyone would gather around the fire to chat, and occasionally Jiang Hu would roast some sweet potatoes.

But mostly, everyone enjoyed gathering as a family to talk. Sometimes the conversation was about the village, sometimes the town, and occasionally Liu Bo shared news from the county.

Up until now, the Jiang family still didn’t know what the Liu family did for a living and hadn’t met Liu Ze’s parents.

However, almost every month, letters from the county were delivered, and sometimes there were things sent to the Jiang family as well.

It was already nearing November, and in the beginning of the twelfth lunar month, which is one month away, Liu Bo and Liu Ze would set off again to return to the county.

Xiaomi happily showed everyone the short bow, and everyone praised Wei Ziang before moving onto the topic of slaughtering pigs for preserved meat this year.

Although there was a drought a few years back, the development of Cheng County had been quite good over the past years, especially with the high-yield crops being promoted county-wide.

So, over these past years, the lives of the people in Cheng County have visibly improved.

As for places further away, the ordinary people didn’t know much and dared not discuss too much.

Every year before the twelfth lunar month, the Jiang family would start slaughtering pigs and preparing preserved meat so that Liu Bo and his group could take some when returning to the county.

Tonight’s discussion, naturally, was still about this matter.

”Liu Bo, why not take two fat pigs this year? With a horse-drawn carriage, it would take at most seven or eight days to reach the county. A cattle cart might be slower, adding one or two more days to the trip.”

Though no one from the Jiang family except Jiang Yu had been to the county.

But don’t forget, a few years ago, when everyone was settled in Fu’an Village, they had passed by outside Cheng County.

Although Jiang Hu had forgotten the exact route, he could still roughly estimate the distance.

Liu Bo looked at Liu Ze: ”Ze’er, what do you think?”

Liu Ze thought for a moment: ”It’s not impossible. Add a roof to the cattle cart and put more pig feed in it. Although it’s a bit troublesome, it’s not without benefits.”

Liu Bo raised his eyebrows: ”Oh? What benefits?”

This time, Liu Ze looked at Jiang Hu and Erniang, and then at Xiaoxue, before explaining.

”The Jiang family’s meat and vegetable dishes are top-tier delicacies known throughout Xiangma Town. The eggs sent to the county get snatched up quickly.”

”But after all, eggs are too few, and slightly prosperous families have at least a dozen mouths to feed, and some have dozens. Two hundred eggs every three to five days don’t mean much in the county, and nobody pays special attention.”

”If the Jiang family does decide to move near Cheng County, it’s a good time to prepare in advance. We’ve all tasted Uncle’s pork. Fat but not greasy, lean but not tough, very delicious.”

”With Chinese New Year approaching, sending a bit of pork to a few prominent households in the county might help if the Jiang family plans to move near Cheng County later, offering them protection from being targeted.”

Liu Ze spoke eloquently, and everyone nodded in agreement.

One has to admit, Liu Ze was completely right, even Xiaomi secretly praised in her heart.

Indeed, she had forgotten that the Jiang family had never been targeted in Fu’an Village or Xiangma Town, thanks to the hidden protection of the Liu family.

The Liu family protected Tongfu Restaurant, indirectly protecting the Jiang family, allowing them to farm without worrying about anything else.

If they moved to the county area, and the Jiang family continued developing like it is now, they might get noticed.

Having more wealthy and influential people as shields would certainly be beneficial.

And why would those people help the Jiang family, who aren’t relatives?

This is when the value of the Jiang family becomes apparent.

Liu Bo nodded with satisfaction: ”Ze’er is right, Xiao Jiang, your proposal is good. We’ll find a cattle cart in town to carry two pigs to Cheng County!”

Jiang Hu quickly agreed: ”Alright, that’s settled.”

The Jiang family did have a cattle cart, and Jiang Hu could deliver it. But if the Jiang family lost Jiang Hu and had a young wife, he wouldn’t dare leave alone, especially since the round trip would take at least twenty days.

So, this matter was easily settled.

Xiaomi received the key information: it seems her parents are confirmed to be moving to the county!
