Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 286: Chapter 218: Matchmaking Talk (Part 3)

Although not particularly close with Aunt Xie, Aunt Xie is, like most middle-aged women, quite the chatterbox.

Aunt Xie finally came to her senses and remembered the main reason she was looking for Erniang.

”It’s like this, there’s a good thing I wanted to share with you.”

Aunt Xie followed closely behind Erniang.

Erniang covered the pot where the pig feed was being cooked, so that when she fed the pigs at noon, the feed underneath would still be warm, and she could feed it directly.

She then brought over a stool for Aunt Xie: ”What’s the good thing?”

”Auntie, you sit down and talk; I’ll go clean out the pigsty first.”

The pigsty needs to be cleaned every day, or it’ll stink, and the pigs will get dirty too. If cleaned daily, the house’s fat pigs are nice and plump.

However, Aunt Xie did not sit down; instead, she followed Erniang to the edge of the pigsty, although she could have sat there and still be heard by Erniang as the distance wasn’t far.

”Erniang, your eldest has been home for over a month now, isn’t he leaving soon?”

She was talking about Jiang Yu, who returned last December and planned to leave after the Lantern Festival, though others didn’t know this.

Erniang, who was holding tools and about to enter the pigsty, was momentarily stunned and didn’t go in at all.

”Yes, he’s leaving in a few days, why?”

At this moment, Erniang finally noticed something was a bit off with Aunt Xie’s expression, as if she was overly delighted?

”Oh, isn’t this the thing? I wanted to talk to you, Erniang. Your eldest must be in his teens by now, isn’t he?”

An idea flashed in Erniang’s mind, and she suddenly understood something.

After all, they were just joking about something similar at home yesterday.

Simultaneously, Erniang felt a bit exasperated; how come it was mentioned just yesterday and today someone actually came to ask?

Feeling a bit helpless, she still feigned calmness and nodded: ”Yes, almost twelve.”

Aunt Xie’s face instantly lit up with joy: ”I told you, Erniang, you’re really not being diligent as a mother. He’s already twelve, why haven’t you started arranging a marriage for him yet?”

Erniang thought, as expected.

Then she said helplessly, ”Auntie, he’s just twelve, no rush, let it wait for a bit.”

Aunt Xie widened her eyes, pretending to be angry: ”How can you wait on such things? Of course, you need to start arranging earlier.”

”You’ve been through this, so you know a marriage affair isn’t settled just by talking about it. You need to first find a matchmaker, then arrange slowly. By the time you find a suitable match, get engaged and married, another year goes by.”

As she spoke, she grabbed Erniang’s hand and patted the back of her hand, appearing sincere and earnest.

”So you see, Erniang, this can’t be delayed. Look, your eldest is twelve this year, by the time you talk about marriage and get engaged, married it’ll be fourteen to fifteen years down the line.”

Erniang felt helpless; she just let her guard down for a moment and was caught by Auntie Xie again.

Moreover, when she patted her hand, she couldn’t help but stroke it a few times, leaving her speechless.

However, after listening to Auntie Xie’s words, Erniang couldn’t care about those things anymore.

”Auntie, Xiaoyu is still studying. Talking about these things now will only distract him, and he probably needs to study in the county for the next two years. Talking about marriage next year won’t be too late.”

”Sigh, how can that be? In a few years, it’ll be too late. You know once someone gets older, man or woman, when you then go and look for a match, others might suspect there’s something wrong.”

This wasn’t just Auntie Xie speaking carelessly; it was solid fact.

Erniang showed a difficult expression. How could she explain to Aunt Xie that it wasn’t about age?

But Aunt Xie clearly misunderstood Erniang’s troubled expression, assuming she was worried about Jiang Yu’s future difficulties in finding a wife.

Aunt Xie’s smile became even more pronounced, her face almost wrinkling into a ball.

”Erniang, isn’t it a coincidence? I know a girl around the same age as your eldest, very capable and diligent. Would you consider it?”

Erniang was momentarily stunned, then found it both funny and exasperating: ”Auntie, Xiaoyu is leaving in just a few days.”

This trip would take at least a year, what’s the point of discussing this now?

”It’s no problem; there are still a few days. Why don’t I bring the girl over to your house for you to see? If it’s appropriate, you can have the engagement first, and let the girl go to the county with your eldest?”

”What? Go to the county together?” Erniang’s eyes widened. What good and decent girl would go with a man before marriage?

However, Auntie Xie didn’t see anything wrong with that. On the contrary, she nodded as if it was perfectly natural.

”Yes, you see, your eldest is out there alone with no one to help wash clothes or tidy up. If he brought his fiancée along, he’d have someone to take care of him, and once married in a couple of years, no one would say anything, right?”
