Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 293: Chapter 221: Preparing to Leave

The Jiang family was also very busy today. Second Aunt got up early to kill a chicken and a goose, and even handled a rabbit.

Of course, there was also fish.

When Jiang Hu came back, he also bought some vegetables. Having dealt with them in the morning made the afternoon much easier.

There were quite a few people today, so Second Aunt arranged two tables, one for the adults and one for the children. There were seven children alone.

Just as all the dishes were set on the table, the long-term worker from the front yard led the village chief and Liu Yang’s family inside.

”Jiang Hu, what’s the occasion today? Isn’t Xiaomi’s birthday still a few days away?”

Liu Yang was as familiar with the Jiang household as his own. Whether it was when they lived in the old house or after moving, the Liu family was the best friends of the Jiang family in the village.

”It’s nothing special. Yu’er passed the child scholar exam before, but he’s not at home, and we never celebrated it. In two days, he’ll be leaving, so it’s just as well we let the kids gather today.”

Jiang Hu greeted everyone with a smile and led them to the dining room, where two tables of food were already prepared.

Second Aunt removed her apron, motioned for Liu Qiang to sit with his brother at their table, and then took Wang Xiang and Mrs. Liu to sit at the adult table.

Jiang Hu took a wine jar from the side: ”Tomorrow is the Lantern Festival, so we might as well celebrate early. No need to be polite, everyone – eat and drink as you like.”

”Smells great, Jiang Hu. This wine is so aromatic, it must not be cheap.” Liu Yang took the wine bowl and took a deep breath, showing a satisfied expression.

Men love their liquor, but wine is quite expensive; not many are willing to spend lavishly on it.

Jiang Hu smiled, ”It’s okay. I don’t usually drink, but I’m in a good mood today, so everyone, help yourselves.”

Liu Yang, the village chief, Uncle Liu, and Jiang Hu himself each had a bowl.

Not only was there wine, but also meat.

The dishes were very plentiful: braised rabbit, old duck soup, steamed fish, sweet and sour ribs, various sausages and cured meats, scrambled eggs with vegetables, and more.

You could say it’s as plentiful as New Year’s. It was truly very lavish.

Even though life in everyone’s homes had improved in recent years, the hardships from a few years back still lingered in their hearts. Even during New Year’s, few families indulged so extravagantly.

The village chief, while agreeing with Jiang Hu’s words, scrutinized the meal, wondering what Jiang Hu meant by all this.

Jiang Hu noticed the village chief seemed distracted and had a guess at what he was thinking, but he said nothing, pretending not to know.

Meanwhile, Liu Yang and the others genuinely knew nothing, lifting their wine bowls and chatting warmly with Jiang Hu.

Second Aunt ignored the men, inviting Wang Xiang and Mrs. Liu to eat. Though they didn’t drink wine, each had a bowl of chrysanthemum tea with a red date and two or three goji berries inside.

When eating meat, it’s good to drink some chrysanthemum tea to cut the grease.

The three women continued chatting while eating, talking about the children and other trivial matters.

Everything was quite harmonious. The women and children didn’t drink, and when they were full they left the table. Second Aunt wasn’t in a hurry to clean up; she led the children into the yard to make a fire, chatting while warming themselves.

Although it was already February, the recent cold snaps made the evenings very chilly, and sitting by the fire chatting was truly comfortable.

At night, there was no embroidery to be done, and the children were by the fire. Liu Hai, knowing Jiang Yu was leaving, took the opportunity to catch up with him and ask about the school in the county.

Wang Xiang also asked Second Aunt why she thought of inviting them to dinner today and even brought the village chief.

In the eyes of the villagers, the village chief was at least a leader, with a status different from ordinary villagers. When facing the village chief, there was a certain level of apprehension. ℴ

Generally speaking, unless it was significant, people didn’t disturb the village chief.

Second Aunt didn’t offer much explanation for this and instead inquired about Liu Hai’s circumstances.

As mothers, once the topic turned to children, the conversation flowed endlessly, never stopping.

In the whole of Fu’an Village, Wang Xiang could be considered Second Aunt’s best friend. They might not share every little thing, but pretty close.

In the yard, it was all joy and harmony, the same as at the wine table. After several rounds, the atmosphere became lively.

Liu Yang was still enthusiastically praising, making comments like the Jiang family was unmatched in the heavens and the earth, even saying that the biggest credit for Fu’an Village’s achievements today was due to the Jiang family.
