Transmigrated as a Peasant Baby Who is Pampered by All

Chapter 294: Chapter 221: Preparing to Leave (2)

Jiang Hu found it both amusing and exasperating. Didn’t anyone notice the village head’s expression was a bit off? The village head had been managing various big and small matters in the village over the years and had quite a few achievements.

But alas, he couldn’t stop Liu Yang from talking, especially with the village head between them. He could only let Liu Yang talk freely.

The village head chimed in a few words. He remembered that he had something to ask Jiang Hu, but with the chatty Liu Yang beside him, he had no chance to speak.

The group chatted while they ate, discussing everything from crops in the fields to restaurants in town, from lotus roots in the pond to whether they could raise fish, and so on.

Jiang Hu naturally gave his affirmation, suggesting that if conditions allowed, they could indeed give it a try.

The meal went on until the middle of the night, and finally, everyone was full and ready to leave.

Yet until now, the village head still didn’t know why Jiang Hu hosted this meal in the first place.

However, when Jiang Hu was seeing them off, the village head moved slightly slower, as if he had something to say, and let Liu Yang and the others leave first.

Once Liu Yang’s family had walked a bit farther, the village head lingered at the entrance, speaking of this and that, while Jiang Hu didn’t rush him, waiting for the village head to speak.

Eventually, the village head couldn’t hold back and spoke first.

”Jiang, today I came over because there is another matter I wanted to get your thoughts on.”

Even though they had drunk alcohol, reason prevailed, and no one was confused.

Jiang Hu pretended to be tipsy, rubbed his temple, seemingly to clear his head a bit.

”What do you want to say, village head?” he asked earnestly.

The village head was quite satisfied with the attitude of Jiang Hu, and not just today.

Frankly speaking, the Jiang family had developed well these past few years, gaining momentum. Sometimes, Jiang Hu’s words were more influential than the village head’s.

Because of this, the village head had some feelings of discontent in his heart.

Fortunately, Jiang Hu was very sensible. Whenever there was a major or minor issue in the village, he wouldn’t say much. Instead, when the village head suggested something, Jiang Hu would express his support.

Possibly due to Little Lucky Star, usually, when Jiang Hu agreed to something, others wouldn’t object much.

In this regard, the village head was very satisfied, feeling that Jiang Hu was very tactful.

Seeing Jiang Hu’s attitude, the village head was set on his plan, confident that the matter he was about to discuss was practically certain.

Thinking this, the village head couldn’t help but reveal a satisfied smile.

”Here’s the thing, Jiang. You remember your aunt approached Erniang some days ago, right? Erniang should have mentioned it to you, huh?”

Jiang Hu was genuinely surprised, not feigning it.

He then turned to the village head in confusion, ”Oh, that thing? Erniang did mention it briefly. She said the child is still young, to wait another two years, so I didn’t ask much.”

The village head immediately showed a disapproving look, ”Ah, such things can’t wait. The girl your aunt mentioned? I met her. She’s a good one. I say, while Jiang Yu is still at home, we should settle it first.”

Jiang Hu thought for a moment, ”That works. I’ll talk to Erniang first, anyway the eldest still has a few days before leaving, no rush.”

Jiang Hu having said this, the village head was even more pleased, happily patting Jiang Hu on the shoulder, ”Good, good, good. I knew you were reasonable. I’ll head back then.”

”Alright, village head, be careful on your way back. Should I walk you home?”

”No, no need. My youngest is coming to pick me up. Just give me the torch, and I’ll make my way home. It’s late. You should go discuss Jiang Yu’s marriage with Erniang.”

Jiang Hu didn’t say much. Seeing someone indeed approaching with a torch in the distance, he stopped, not insisting on escorting him.

Once the village head had walked a bit farther, a person suddenly emerged from behind, it was Erniang, frowning slightly, a bit worried.

”Brother Hu, are you really going to...”

Before she could finish, Jiang Hu pressed a finger to his lips, ’shushed’ softly, signaling for her not to speak.

The couple didn’t carry a lamp, standing in the shadows of the doorway. Outsiders couldn’t see them until the village head left, guided away by the lights from afar. Only then did Jiang Hu pull Erniang back inside.

Back in the backyard, two aunts were already doing the dishes, and two other middle-aged men were tidying up the tables and chairs.

”Old Zhang,” Jiang Hu patted Erniang’s hand, signaling her not to hurry, then looked at the middle-aged man, ”Some of these dishes aren’t finished, they’re clean, go ahead and take them over.”

Old Zhang was the oldest of the hired hands, often accompanying Jiang Hu on his errands, and most importantly, he was literate.
