Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

”Wait, I have a question!”

An unknown voice, seemingly amplified, reverberated from all directions, causing a slight commotion among the crowd outside.

Upon hearing this voice, Lin Haifeng furrowed his brows slightly…

The live broadcast faithfully recorded this moment—as if Lin Haifeng were unaware of this ”unexpected event.”

This old dog, such a good pretender!

Wen Yu, sitting in front of the television, took a large gulp of beer and cursed silently.

「…」

Of course, Lin Haifeng knew, for this was all part of the plan. However, knowing in his heart was one thing. Letting others know that he knew was an entirely different matter.

Thus, Lin Haifeng glanced at the soldiers responsible for security below, then ignored the voice that had just spoken and continued his interrupted speech.

”Today is the day the Human Race and the Sea Clan form an alliance…”

”I said! I have a question!!!”

The voice, now audibly tinged with anger, echoed from all directions, even louder than before.

Amplified by some unknown skill or item, the voice, as expected, interrupted Lin Haifeng’s speech once more.

Lin Haifeng silently looked downward.

Below, a large contingent of military and police personnel searched frantically for the source of the voice, but to no avail.

As Lin Haifeng fell silent, the entire ceremony site seemed to have hit the pause button—an eerie silence descended.

All spectators present understood one thing—an unforeseen situation seemed to have developed.

On camera, Lin Haifeng maintained a composed expression, subtly gestured to those behind him, and then spoke calmly, ”To the friend who keeps interrupting me, could you please show yourself?”

Unsurprisingly, this ridiculous question received no answer.

Lin Haifeng then spoke again, ”Since you aren’t willing to show yourself, then, friend, let’s just converse like this. What exactly is your question?”

Behind Lin Haifeng, his ”bodyguards,” led by Tang Haofei who had received the message, began to silently move into the crowd. Ordinary military and police personnel lacked the capability to apprehend the ”perpetrator,” but their special operatives surely did, right? Besides, a conference of this magnitude couldn’t be halted due to one or two unexpected incidents…

So, at least in the eyes of outsiders, Lin Haifeng’s decision didn’t seem wrong.

And just like that…

Only the Sea King’s ten clansmen remained to guard Lin Haifeng and the Sea King himself!

”What I want to ask about is them, those beasts! Those murderers! Those creatures that look like the Demon Tribe! What right do they have to sit on Yanjing’s soil, on human land? Commander Lin, surely you haven’t forgotten what these members of the Sea Clan have done to us, right?”

”My protest doesn’t represent only myself! It represents the 7,598 lives lost in the tsunami that struck the Demon Capital Assembly Site not long ago!”

The voice boomed from all directions, as if countless loudspeakers had been installed around the venue. It wasn’t just the surrounding onlookers; even people in the inner city zone could probably hear its muffled echoes!

Wen Yu was not unfamiliar with the incident the ”Mysterious Man” was referring to.

This was precisely the ”welcoming gift,” or perhaps ”invitation,” that the Sea Clan had offered when they sought an alliance with humanity not long ago.

At that time, a massive tsunami swept the Demon Capital Assembly Site. The damage wasn’t extensive; in fact, it inadvertently resolved the crisis of the Demon Capital Assembly Site being besieged by Demon Fiends. However, many people still died in the tsunami…

This was what Lin Haifeng had said when he invited Wen Yu to join this plan.

However, the fault for this incident didn’t truly lie with the Sea Clan.

Never mind the mere 7,598 human lives—at this point in time, the daily death toll for humans was at least ten times that number. Furthermore, the great tsunami manipulated by the Sea Clan had perfectly resolved the problem facing the Demon Capital Assembly Site.

This could be considered a favor!

Perhaps only Lin Haifeng, harboring ulterior motives, would stoop to using such a flimsy pretext for the sake of his own ”reputation.”

However, no matter how lousy the excuse, as long as it was somewhat defensible, it could be used!

Because no matter how one spun it, it couldn’t change the fact that the Sea Clan had manipulated the tsunami and killed 7,598 humans.

It was much like how people on Cathayan soil would feel a surge of indignation seeing a compatriot being assaulted by a foreigner; the sentiment of the crowd at this moment was largely similar.

In an instant, murmurs of discussion rippled through the entire venue.

”So, something like that actually happened?”

”Yeah, I just heard about it too.”

”So, these Sea Clan members aren’t good folk after all…”

In the post-apocalyptic world, the scarcity of information was a given. For these spectators, at least, reliable channels for news were few and far between.

Most of them were unaware that the Sea King Tribe had caused a tsunami!

The Sea King sat in his seat, expressionlessly observing the commotion below.

The Sea King naturally understood the Cathayan language. However, he felt no need to personally address these matters. If Lin Haifeng couldn’t even handle such a trivial issue, then he truly needed to reconsider the alliance with the Human Race.

Lin Haifeng’s performance didn’t fall below the Sea King’s minimum expectations. Or rather, the script was already written; he just needed to perform according to the original plan, and everything would be fine.
