Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Kasu simply shook his head, turned around, and sat cross-legged directly in front of the portal to the otherworldly space, waiting patiently.

Wen Yu’s own sins, while not as severe as Akad’s or Wanping’s, didn’t exactly qualify him as a good person—at the very least, Wen Yu should have been on Kasu’s purification list.

But unfortunately, his strength was lacking.

Even so, Kasu was unwilling to betray his own conscience by drinking and chatting with Wen Yu, engaging in idle talk.

Seeing Kasu’s demeanor, Wen Yu shook his head with a smile. This person is rather interesting.

...

Taking out a wine glass, Wen Yu casually poured himself some red wine. He leaned against Cyclops, who was in its battle form, and leisurely sipped his drink.

On one hand, Wen Yu needed to wait for Wanping’s Resurrection.

On the other hand, he also wanted to see the outcome for Ye Nan and the other two—although, from the current situation, it seemed Ye Nan had no escape!

Waiting was boring. With nothing else to do, Wen Yu’s thoughts drifted to the dormant Almighty Demon Vine.

His mental power seeped into the core of the Almighty Demon Vine through their contract.

The Almighty Demon Vine’s newly born Soul was still in peaceful slumber. Its bright red Soul Body radiated a pure light, yet within it brewed an eerie aura.

This must be the incubation and gestation process of the Soul Body.

As for what it would produce...

An Innate Evil Spirit?

That must be it.

Thinking of the mutated Almighty Demon Vine’s strange behavior and altered abilities, Wen Yu felt an uneasy premonition in his heart.

Wen Yu didn’t trust the Dominator’s rewards, but even so, he had to use them!

It was a vicious cycle; all professionists in the world were trapped in it, unable to escape.

Even though Tang Haofei had said the Dominator surely harbored ill intentions, who could truly escape the Dominator’s control?

Without the professionist system established by the Dominator, there would be no means to resist the Demon Tribe—the demon plague, *that* was the most imminent problem facing humanity!

Drinking poison to quench thirst—it was simply that.

Wen Yu casually shook his head, banishing these thoughts from his mind.

Pondering such things was useless now; even figuring them out wouldn’t solve any problems. For Wen Yu—no, for most people in the world—whose level was too low and knowledge too scarce, all conjectures and imaginings were pointless.

Halting his thoughts, Wen Yu once again focused his perception on the Almighty Demon Vine’s Soul Body—observing the development process of a Soul Body and learning about Souls would surely be beneficial.

...

His consciousness once again sank into the core of the Almighty Demon Vine.

Watching the incubating Soul Body flicker with red light, Wen Yu exerted all his effort, trying to sense the changes in the Almighty Demon Vine.

Inside the red ball of light, streaks like electric currents flashed past, countless currents flowing endlessly, interwoven like a vast net—could this be the Soul?

Perhaps the currents represented the myriad thoughts within the Soul Body, countless seemingly insignificant thoughts combining into complex ideas that dictated the body’s actions.

Wen Yu didn’t know if his guess was right or wrong—this was the consequence of having no precedent.

But whether his conjectures were right or wrong was irrelevant. As long as he had a hypothesis, he could gradually refine and prove it—he had understood since primary school that acquiring knowledge was not an instantaneous process.

His perception completely enveloped the Almighty Demon Vine’s Soul Body. Like a spectator, Wen Yu meticulously observed every stir and movement of the Soul Body.

「Almost at the same time, inside the otherworldly space asylum.」

”Old Ye, what do we do this time?” Zhang Shaojie asked Ye Nan, who stood silently to the side. Zhang Shaojie was continuously gulping down healing potions with Akad’s help.

Ye Nan remained silent for a long moment before slowly raising his head. He scanned the environment of this space—just like the Challenge Space for promotion trials, the entire area was empty, exceptionally clean.

But in their current situation, ’clean’ meant no usable items, which meant certain death once they stepped out.

A dead end? A checkmate?

No, Ye Nan didn’t think so.

With this thought, Ye Nan quickly removed the space ring from his finger and began to rummage through it.

As an Avenging Spirit, Ye Nan had already taken possession of all items from the three of them. Ye Nan didn’t have many items himself. Akad had lost all his after his ordeal with Vincent. Zhang Shaojie, however, had been the warden of the Black Abyss Prison for a while, and that position came with significant benefits!

For instance, the extra-dimensional asylum was Zhang Shaojie’s.

After rummaging for a while, Ye Nan carefully took out a large handful of items from the space ring.

”This one, a spatial transfer-type item. It can teleport us 1,000 meters.”

One thousand meters is completely useless; it won’t get us out of Kasu’s perception range!

An escape item that Wanping once prided himself on had now become of little practical value.

”And this, a defensive item.”

No good. These items can’t block attacks of Kasu’s intensity!

This was why Wen Yu didn’t bother much with such items. He’d take them if he found them, but wouldn’t go out of his way to collect them. For him, items that could save the lives of ordinary professionists might not even withstand the aftershocks of an attack from an evenly matched opponent.

”This... a B-Class Skill.”

”That’s even more useless! Old Ye, have you gone mad? Skills have nothing to do with whether we can escape with our lives!”

Hearing Zhang Shaojie’s words, Ye Nan’s movements paused.

After a moment, Ye Nan slowly lifted his head.

”I’m just estimating our net worth. When we get out, if we can offer some Life-saving Money, perhaps Wen Yu will see the profit in it and spare our lives.”

At this, Zhang Shaojie and Akad were speechless.

This was the sorrow of the weak—either pay to live or die outright, with no control over their own fate!

The three fell silent for a time, leaving only the sound of Ye Nan sifting through items.

After about five minutes, Zhang Shaojie, with more than half of his body regenerated, looked up at Ye Nan.

”Old Ye, there’s something in the space ring, a pointer-like thing. It might be the item most likely to catch Wen Yu’s attention.”

Following Zhang Shaojie’s directions, Ye Nan found an object resembling a compass amidst the large pile of things in the space ring.

A familiar dial, a familiar pointer. If Wen Yu were here, he would recognize it at a glance: this was a Treasure Land Key.

But Ye Nan didn’t know—after all, his strength was low and his experience limited.

”What is this?”

”A Treasure Land Key,” Akad supplied.

”However, the location this thing unlocks is not fixed, nor is the scale of the treasure land. Whether it can be used to buy our lives will depend on Wen Yu’s mood. By the way, where does this Treasure Land Key lead?”

Hearing Akad’s question, Zhang Shaojie gave a bitter smile.

”Deep within Bohai City...”

Great, its value just plummeted!

It doesn’t matter. We’ll just say we don’t know where it leads and let Wen Yu find it himself. Ye Nan resolved to use this item to trade for their lives. In such circumstances, a few necessary white lies couldn’t be avoided—even at the risk of offending Wen Yu, at this life-or-death juncture, Ye Nan couldn’t afford to care!

Zhang Shaojie nodded.

”That’s the only way.”

However, none of the three noticed that the instant Ye Nan took the Treasure Land Key from the space ring, outside, Wen Yu abruptly sensed a violent fluctuation in the Soul of the Almighty Demon Vine.

...

Like boiling water, the Almighty Demon Vine’s Soul Body, once flowing with red light, suddenly began to churn violently!

Then, an intense light began to flicker incessantly from the Almighty Demon Vine’s Soul Body.

This sudden development left Wen Yu at a loss—his research into Souls was not deep, and faced with this situation, Wen Yu had no solution.

Did it awaken prematurely? Or was it stimulated by something?

Before Wen Yu could think further, a vast and majestic power suddenly surged forth from the Almighty Demon Vine’s Soul Body.
