Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

After briefly chatting with Ye Nan, Ye Nan stood up and left.

Wen Yu listened to the noise in the adjacent room. When Ye Nan returned, the sound of rummaging that resonated from the room next door finally ceased.

Ye Nan had accepted Wen Yu’s kindness.

However, there were some changes. The noise of footsteps and even breathing from the next room had become a bit softer.

Wen Yu, sensing these changes, let out a soft sigh, a complex feeling stirring within him.

It seems that without realizing it, his strength had grown to such a degree—to a level that even Sequence-class powerhouses feared as they would a tiger.

Yet, it was still not enough, not by a long shot.

His recent experiences confirmed that he, Wen Yu, still lacked the strength to have absolute control over everything. At least, Lin Haifeng still dared to harm him and those around him.

Wen Yu had to admit, when it came to wit, he was definitely inferior to Lin Haifeng.

Therefore, strength became the only direction Wen Yu aspired towards.

Breaking the deadlock with strength was the best and possibly the only choice for Wen Yu.

He swiftly planned his journey—he would leave for Town CH first thing in the morning. Riding Star wouldn’t take long. After showing Star his birthplace, Wen Yu would immediately go to South Asia and then continue from South Asia to the European Continent.

This route was supposed to contain the most Demon Fiends. In addition to the Level Lock that could break at any moment, Wen Yu should start searching for his future Sixth Soul Pet.

And any treasure lands that he comes across during his journey.

There were many treasure lands scattered across the world, and surely Wen Yu would find some as long as he kept his eyes peeled.

The prerequisite for Divine Light Awakening was an S-Class light-type skill, and he could probably only find that in a treasure land.

After planning his journey, Wen Yu ordered his three soul pets to keep watch and lay silently on the bed. Immersed in the smell of dust and rotting Demon Fiend corpses filling the air, Wen Yu gradually drifted into dreamland.

A silent night passed.

「...」

Early the next morning, accompanied by the dawn sunlight and the omnipresent stench of decay, Wen Yu slowly opened his eyes.

Honestly, the night’s sleep had been far from satisfactory. His shabby dwelling was a far cry from Eternal Sky City or Yanjing Assembly Site.

Wen Yu chuckled self-deprecatingly at this thought.

It’s the nature of human instinct to yearn for comfort and ease. It’s easy to transition from humble conditions to luxury, but hard to make the reverse change. It seems even I cannot avoid this.

After a minute of such wild musings, Wen Yu pricked up his ears to discern the sounds around him.

Within a 3,000-meter radius, there was no trace of any Demon Fiends or enemies. The only audible sound was the loud snoring from next door. Going by the sound, it must be the stranger he didn’t recognize. The surroundings were safe.

His first task upon waking was to check the safety of his surroundings. This was an instinct cultivated from his past life’s experience as cannon fodder. Now that he was journeying alone in the wilderness, these little tricks, once essential for an independent hero, were reawakening one by one.

That’s a good thing. His extended dealings with humans hadn’t eroded his survival skills from the apocalypse. As an independent hero, he spent less time dealing with humans than battling mutant beasts and Demon Fiends!

After fishing out a bottle of purified water from his space ring and freshening up, Wen Yu cleaned up a bit and cast another glance at his shabby home.

Seems like there’s truly nothing to miss here.

It was an odd feeling. After spending a night in his former home, apart from lamenting the subpar living conditions which were worse than sleeping outdoors, Wen Yu had no feelings of nostalgia or longing. It was merely a temporary stopover.

The concept of ’home’ was becoming blurrier in Wen Yu’s mind.

Perhaps he was born to wander... Wen Yu thought.

With this thought in his mind, Wen Yu called out to his three soul pets, opened the door, and walked downstairs.

「...」

The sound of the door opening disturbed his next-door neighbors.

By the time Wen Yu reached the bottom of his apartment building, he could hear Ye Nan’s voice coming from above.

”Wen Yu, goodbye.”

When Wen Yu looked back, he saw Ye Nan and his two companions sticking their heads out the window, waving goodbye.

With his departure, life would be much easier for Ye Nan and his companions.

Wen Yu waved back and shouted loudly in return.

”Ye Nan, Akad, and my loud-snoring friend, goodbye!”

With that, he looked away, a thought silently taking form in his mind:

I hope we never fucking meet again.

Ye Nan’s condition seemed off to Wen Yu. He was a man completely blinded by hatred. Aside from revenge, there was no difference between him and a dead man.

A person who seeks only revenge is the most dangerous. They don’t care about the lives of others or even their own. For revenge, they can commit any horrors. Ye Nan was one such person.

People like him were calamitous. Staying near them would only bring constant trouble. Even if they’re not in trouble, they’ll stir something up.

After all his experiences, Wen Yu felt a deep sense of repulsion towards people like these.

It’s better to be alone...

Interestingly, Ye Nan and the others probably felt the same way about Wen Yu. In fact, they probably considered Wen Yu a bigger disaster or troublemaker!

「...」

”Star, grow bigger. We’re going back to take a look.”

”AWOO! I want to see Grandpa Tree! I wonder if the ice on Grandpa Tree has melted. And I want to see my little friends; I wonder if they’ve returned.”

While mumbling random nonsense, Star shook with excitement.

Despite being a divine beast, Star was pure and naive. This, combined with Wen Yu’s constant avoidance of the topic of the Two World Battlefield, meant Star remained oblivious to Wen Yu’s ’benign lie’.

This time, Wen Yu wasn’t sure how he should react. But the most likely option was to stick to his lie.

He signaled Cyclops, who immediately understood. Cyclops hopped onto Star’s now larger head, barking ”WOOF! WOOF!” non-stop. In an instant, he had successfully distracted Star, turning his attention to the shapes of the clouds in the sky.

Being simple and naive also meant being easily distracted and... easily fooled.

Perhaps it was only when dealing with Star that Wen Yu’s ’intellect’ could truly shine.
