Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Strolling through the deserted streets of M City—those who could walk had all been taken by the military to Yanjing. Those who couldn’t walk were probably long dead.

The streets of M City were littered with dead, decaying Demon Beast Corpses and mutant beast corpses, proving that this place had not been abandoned after the humans had evacuated.

Mutant beasts were still stubbornly guarding this land. However, based on the aura Wen Yu sensed, the outcome seemed tragic.

At least, after Wen Yu had crossed nearly half of the city, he didn’t find any aura belonging to mutant beasts. The occasional, rare fluctuations of aura belonged to braindead Demon Tribe members.

All the way, Cyclops kept twitching his Dog Nose, trying to find something.

After a while, Cyclops whimpered softly, looking dejected, and hung his head low.

Seeing this, Wen Yu gently stroked Cyclops’s fur a couple of times.

Wen Yu knew what Cyclops was looking for.

Once, this place could be said to be Cyclops’s haven, but now… His loved one is gone…

Thinking of this, Wen Yu shivered abruptly. This analogy is so damn fitting!

He walked leisurely through the streets of M City.

Wen Yu suddenly stopped as he approached the residential complex where he used to live.

The neighborhood ahead was enveloped by two surging auras, much like a forest fire in autumn. The deliberately emitted high-intensity aura fluctuations disturbed all the mutant creatures and Demon Fiends in the area, forcefully carving out a safe zone.

Squinting, he carefully sensed them—two aura fluctuations, one familiar, the other unfamiliar. However, something beneath the auras made Wen Yu inexplicably uncomfortable...

No, not two. Three. The third one was too weak, so weak that I didn’t even detect it at first.

Considering what had happened recently with the military, Wen Yu suddenly laughed.

As expected, it should be Ye Nan and Akad. Such ”acquaintances.”

Zhang Shaojie and Akad were smoking in the stairwell.

Even though his physical attributes had dropped to mere single digits, Akad hadn’t lost his characteristic arrogance, the kind that proclaimed him second only to Heaven itself.

In fact, Akad currently did have the credentials to be arrogant again. With the help of Ye Nan and Zhang Shaojie, Akad now possessed thousands of lives once more. Due to the unique nature of his River of Death (Species-specific Esoteric Level) ability, even though Akad’s personal strength had degraded to an extreme level, it didn’t significantly impact his overall power.

However, his fighting style needed to change—from recklessly charging with his invulnerability to now relying on his servants of the Nation of Death for all battles.

It was hard to say which approach was stronger; the original power of the River of Death wasn’t solely about its horrifying invulnerability.

Zhang Shaojie, on the other hand, might have gained a deep understanding of Akad’s awful personality during their time together. The two were simply smoking their own cigarettes; while not harmonious, they at least coexisted peacefully.

Ye Nan’s class, Avenging Spirit, had similarities with Wen Yu’s Soul Master: both could contract other creatures, and each level gained added a summoning slot.

However, Ye Nan’s class, upon closer inspection, was much more troublesome than Wen Yu’s Soul Master. Even after becoming an Avenger, people were still people, and human pettiness and scheming far exceeded that of mutant beasts. Wen Yu wasn’t suited to lead a team; was Ye Nan? That wasn’t necessarily true!

After a while, Akad was the first to stub out his cigarette. Dressed in a blood-red robe, with a gloomy look in his eyes and a large, hooked nose, he didn’t look like a good person no matter how one looked at him.

Hands in his pockets, Akad swaggered upstairs.

Suddenly, a voice came from behind him.

”Wait, Akad, someone’s here.”

”Someone’s here?” Akad turned around abruptly at Zhang Shaojie’s call, asking urgently, ”Is it that son of a bitch Wanping?”

Akad’s resentment towards Wanping was perhaps surpassed only by Ye Nan’s.

Zhang Shaojie shook his head. He stared out the window for a moment before replying to Akad, ”It seems Ye Nan’s neighbor is back.”

Neighbor... A flicker of realization flashed in Akad’s eyes, followed by a shiver that ran through his entire body.

They all knew perfectly well who Ye Nan’s neighbor was. Before Akad and the others had left Yanjing, Wen Yu had been in a cooperative relationship with the military.

Akad was genuinely terrified that Wen Yu had come to capture them.

However, Akad didn’t pause to consider: for a few small fry like them, would Wen Yu really need to make a trip himself?

He walked along the familiar pedestrian path of the residential complex, all the way to the stairwell of his apartment building.

CLIP-CLOP, CLIP-CLOP.

His crisp footsteps echoed through the gloomy stairwell.

When he reached his own door, Wen Yu fumbled with his space ring.

After searching for a long time, Wen Yu finally took out the key to his apartment from the space ring and casually inserted it into the keyhole.

Wen Yu’s actions were unhurried. The simple task of finding his key and opening the door took him almost three minutes.

During these three minutes, Wen Yu could clearly feel a gaze from the apartment opposite, scrutinizing him as if worried he were a burglar.

CLICK.

The sound of the old, sluggish lock mechanism echoed as Wen Yu pulled the door open.

The dilapidated door hinges let out a series of jarring creaks.

It’s been in disrepair for ages, plus there’s slight corrosion from the Demonic Qi in the air. This crappy door really needs replacing...

Then, Wen Yu stepped into the room. He turned and swept a light glance at the peephole of the door opposite his. A faint, unreadable smile touched his lips, revealing his white teeth. His lips moved, gently mouthing, ”Hello. We meet again.”

BANG!

The heavy door slammed shut, like a solid barrier, separating the inside and outside into two different worlds.

Ye Nan stopped peering through the peephole. He turned to Akad and Zhang Shaojie and said, ”There seems to be no malice.”

Neither Zhang Shaojie nor Akad reacted. He’s already here, so what’s the use of such pointless words? At this distance, given Wen Yu’s strength, the three of us are like lambs to the slaughter.

After a moment, Ye Nan sighed softly, hesitated briefly, then said decisively, ”You two pack your things. I’ll go check on the apartment across the hall. When I get back, we’ll leave and find another place.”

One mountain cannot accommodate two tigers. No, that analogy isn’t quite right. It’s more like a tiger has entered a fox’s den. Previously, my strength was low, and I didn’t understand Wen Yu’s power, so we could coexist peacefully on the same floor. But things are different now. My strength definitely can’t be called weak anymore. Plus, Wen Yu’s personality is unpredictable. If we’re too close, I might say the wrong thing and offend him. The consequences... just thinking about them is chilling.

Having said that, Ye Nan turned, opened his door, and headed towards the apartment across the hall.
