Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Wen Yu walked for many kilometers after leaving the Yanjing Assembly Site. He finally stopped when all the commotion had faded away. Looking back, the distant Yanjing Assembly Site had vanished from sight, leaving only the Eternal Sky City illuminating the sky with its countless lights. It was dazzling and splendid, like an eternally unfading firework. Alas, however beautiful the firework was, it was too intense for ordinary people to approach, much like the Eternal Sky City and the Yanjing Assembly Site were to Wen Yu.

He stood there for a long while, yet his feet remained motionless. Wen Yu was deep in contemplation. Where should I go?

This was indeed a difficult choice. Although I’ve declared my desire to travel the world, there has to be some order to it, right? It’s like a runaway kid standing at the community gate, heart filled with the resolution, ”I’m never going back to that damn home!” yet still feeling utterly lost.

After a while, Wen Yu made up his mind.

He summoned Cyclops, Star, and Victor. Looking at the three little soul pets before him, he exhaled in relief. Who said I’m alone? Soul pets would never betray me!

”Star, transform.”

Upon hearing Wen Yu’s command, Star murmured while transforming into his battle form, ”Boss, where are we going?”

The three soul pets clearly understood Wen Yu’s situation and their own. However, unlike Wen Yu, wherever he was, was home to them.

”To be honest, I have no idea where to go...” Wen Yu frankly admitted his dilemma to his three soul pets.

Instantly, the human and three soul pets fell into an awkward silence.

Victor, while licking his fur, casually suggested, ”How about Spain? Didn’t that lady say it’s fun there?”

Recently—or more accurately, ever since he had announced the dissolution of Carmille’s group—Carmille hadn’t seemed disappointed. Instead, she had invited Wen Yu to Spain several times. When asked what was happening there, Carmille didn’t reveal much, maintaining a mysterious air. All Wen Yu knew was that she was currently living comfortably. However, considering recent events and what Qin Tian had said before leaving, Wen Yu immediately discarded the option of visiting Spain. If I meet Carmille and she’s in danger, will I help her? If I go to Spain, I’ll be right back in that old vicious circle. That suggestion isn’t even worth considering!

So, Wen Yu firmly shook his head at Victor.

After a while, Wen Yu finally made his decision.

”Let’s go, Star. Just fly anywhere. We’ll enter any treasure land we see and kill any Demon Fiend we encounter. As long as we’re together, where in this world can’t we go?”

This was indeed true. Given Wen Yu’s current power, there truly wasn’t any absolutely forbidden place for him in this world.

With that said, Wen Yu hopped onto Star’s back, holding Cyclops and Victor. Then, with a powerful beat of his wings, Star took off into the distance.

Wen Yu silently estimated Star’s flight trajectory. It was unclear whether Star was doing it intentionally or if some strange factors were at play.

”You’re heading towards...”

”Huh? What’s wrong, Boss?”

”Nothing.”

Wen Yu changed the subject.

Star was flying exactly towards the Northeast of Cathay.

Wen Yu pondered for a moment upon realizing this. This doesn’t seem like a bad idea.

Star fell silent for a moment. Perhaps realizing he was unconsciously heading towards a familiar place, he asked hesitantly, his dragon mouth slightly agape, ”Boss, should we go back?”

”Yes, let’s go back. It’ll be good to take a look.”

Wen Yu didn’t feel much about returning to M City. After all, I was just a passerby there. However, Star, and possibly Cyclops, might feel differently. That was where they were born.

The number of Demon Fiends encountered along the way was far less than expected. After all, the Northeast wasn’t too far from Yanjing. Furthermore, the Demon Tribe had changed its strategy. Cathay’s main forces had been redeployed to India and other South Asian countries, which were closest to Cathay. This led to an awkward problem. Wen Yu’s haul along the way wasn’t very large. He hadn’t killed many Demon Fiends, and Cyclops’ Great Feast required a large number of Demon Fiend corpses. This created a slight conflict with the needs of the Almighty Demon Vine.

However, this was a minor issue, ultimately stemming from the scarcity of prey. This could be easily resolved: after a quick visit to M City, Wen Yu could simply change course and head to South Asia. They did come across quite a few treasure lands. At least, within a short time, Wen Yu encountered two small treasure lands, acquiring a few useless, broken items. Treasure lands were peculiar. Those smaller than large-scale typically involved almost no combat, and the rewards largely depended on luck—a fact Wen Yu found rather frustrating. Then again, Wen Yu didn’t stop to think that if it weren’t for luck, how could he have acquired the Soul Master profession in the first place?

And so, Wen Yu and his three soul pets continued their journey, stopping and starting, full of playful banter. Nothing unexpected or particularly noteworthy occurred during this time.

After a day, the human and three soul pets safely arrived back in M City.

Looking at the familiar yet dilapidated city from afar, Wen Yu couldn’t quite describe his feelings. ’Things are not what they were’? Or perhaps, ’Times have changed, and so have people’? There was nothing and no one here that I cared about, so that sentiment naturally didn’t apply to me.

However, the state of M City gave Wen Yu a more direct insight into the current situation in other regions of Earth. The survivors of M City had already been absorbed by the Yanjing Assembly Site. All that remained were a few mutant creatures and a small number of Demon Fiends.

The present situation in M City differed from Wen Yu’s memories of his past life. Lin Haifeng’s rise in status had driven the overall increase in Cathay’s strength. Even though M City’s original powerhouse, Simba, had been slain by Cyclops, Demon Fiends no longer ran rampant here, unlike in his previous life. In fact, after the Sea Clan helped lift the siege of Yanjing, the entire Cathay region had become a hunting ground for military professionists and Independents from the Yanjing Assembly Site.

The butterfly effect? Perhaps Tang Haofei’s contribution was greater. At least, judging by current events, I, the reborner, have truly tarnished the reputation of The Rebirth Army.

He shook his head, clearing his mind of these thoughts.

”Let’s go. First, we’ll go ’home,’ then to CH Town to see where Star was born...”

Wen Yu left something unsaid. Perhaps he also wanted to revisit the place where the two-worlds battlefield had been, or rather, to see the gravestone he had once erected for Sun Ruixing.
