Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

”Ahem, ahem.”

Wen Yu was caught between laughter and tears by the inexplicably comical scene. He watched Akad sit there, spouting utter nonsense with a perfectly straight face. Meanwhile, Kasu actually fell for it, listening intently with pricked ears to Akad’s story about ”how, 30 years ago, the neighbor’s little dog tragically met its demise.”

This spectacle seemed to shatter Wen Yu’s worldview in an instant.

I really wanted to grab Kasu’s ear and shout, ”Seriously, how old are you anyway?”

...

”I’m ready.”

Sensing Ye Nan’s subtle movements behind him, Akad secretly gave a signal. ”You keep brainstorming strategies; I’ll stall for a bit.”

Multitasking, Akad didn’t miss a beat with his words. ”So, my final wish is to see Wang Cai again with my own eyes.”

This nonsense actually made Kasu fall deep in thought.

After a long moment, Kasu shook his head. ”As you’ve said, that dog has been dead for nearly thirty years. I can’t bring it back to life. Your last wish is a good one, but unfortunately, my abilities are limited. I’m sorry, I cannot fulfill your final request.”

”I hope you can see your Wang Cai in heaven...”

Well, to think someone would actually take such serious-sounding nonsense at face value! Wen Yu hadn’t known Kasu very well before, but he had to admit, this was truly an eye-opener.

Akad, for his part, was happy to continue the charade with Kasu.

With a sorrowful expression, Akad said, ”Father, do you think I can really go to heaven after I die?”

This question left Kasu stunned.

After a moment, Kasu carefully pondered the contents of the Bible, then shook his head at Akad. ”You definitely won’t be able to enter heaven.”

”Well, how about this? You go to heaven and have a word with the great Father God, ask Him to open a backdoor for me. When I get to heaven, I’ll definitely serve Him tirelessly.”

Kasu, startled, reflexively asked, ”How do I go to heaven?”

”Wouldn’t dying send you to heaven? The two of us serving the great deity together—doesn’t that sound perfect? Otherwise, I’d be awfully lonely down in hell by myself...”

Hearing this, Kasu finally realized. ”You’re tricking me?”

”That’s right, I’m tricking you!” Akad gestured to Ye Nan behind him while smiling at Kasu. ”This isn’t the first or second time I’ve tricked you. It’s strange, isn’t it? You’ve been fooled so many times, yet you never learn.”

Akad ignored the white light flaring brighter and brighter around Kasu, and said with a teasing tone, delivering his last line, ”Father, I still have some last words.”

The white light around Kasu paused for an instant, then surged with even greater intensity than before.

”See? You finally learned your lesson this time...”

...

Facing the white light directly, Ye Nan tightly gripped a Jade Pendant in his right hand. The moment Akad finished teasing Kasu, Ye Nan decisively crushed it.

A silver-white light flashed. The next second, a shimmering silver-white portal appeared behind Ye Nan.

Otherworldly Space Asylum (S-class Tool): When crushed, this tool leaves behind an otherworldly space gate at its location. Only the host and designated personnel can enter and exit this otherworldly space. The host can bring people inside, where the otherworldly space is a 10x10 meter pure white area. The host can stay and recuperate in the otherworldly space for one hour. After one hour, the Otherworldly Space Asylum will forcibly expel any professionists inside.

This seemingly impressive tool was, in reality, quite useless—it opened a door at their current location, allowing them to hide inside for an hour, but they would reappear in the same spot. If someone were to guard the exit, it would only be a way to delay the inevitable for an hour.

This wasn’t a life-saving measure, just a desperate move on Ye Nan’s part—to buy an extra hour, hoping to devise a countermeasure against Kasu, or for the situation to change.

Seeing the sudden appearance of the otherworldly space gate, Kasu finally reacted.

He casually unleashed an Energy Fluctuation. A fierce beam of white light, like a laser, swept forward!

However, it only struck the gate of the extra-dimensional asylum.

The extra-dimensional gate rippled like a phantom image under Kasu’s attack, then all became calm again.

But Ye Nan and the other two were already gone!

...

Kasu, sensing what had happened, showed no sign of disappointment. His face expressionless, he landed lightly on the ground.

He gently reached out to touch the extra-dimensional gate, and his arm passed right through it as if it were merely a reflection.

This undoubtedly told Kasu one thing: Ye Nan could enter this gate, but he could not!

Wen Yu, standing nearby, grinned and remarked, ”That method of killing... It’s certainly the first time I’ve seen anything like it.”

”Pretty stupid, right?” Kasu asked.

Wen Yu nodded in emphatic agreement. ”Indeed, it is.”

”I know it’s stupid. Actually, I’ve been tricked by these villains this way many times,” Kasu admitted.

”Then haven’t you thought about changing your approach? If you want to kill someone, just get it over with. There’s no need for all that pointless talk.”

Kasu was silent for a long moment, then gently shook his head. ”You don’t have faith, so you wouldn’t understand. I just want to help them fulfill some good last wishes, to lessen the sin of my actions when I kill them...”

”That’s a novel explanation. I admit I don’t get it, and I have no intention of trying to,” Wen Yu said. ”Anyway, everyone who could run has fled. It’s just the two of us left. You’re watching Akad, and I’m watching Wanping. That works out well enough. How about a drink or two?”
