Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

The next second, Holy Light surged from Kasu. A giant, ethereal angelic figure spread out behind him, scattering endless Holy Light.

The fiercely bright energy field seemed as if it would ignite everything in the air, and an intense sense of danger instantly made Zhang Shaojie shut his mouth.

Behind him, Ye Nan spoke quickly, ”Shaojie, hold him off for ten seconds! I’ll open an otherworldly space asylum. We’ll hide there first and then figure out a plan!”

Ten seconds... You’re fucking overestimating me...

Bitterness welled in Zhang Shaojie’s heart, but his hands didn’t stop moving. He clenched his fists tightly. The next second, his muscles rippled like water.

”ROAR!”

An inhuman howl erupted from Zhang Shaojie’s mouth. Accompanied by the thunderous roar, his body suddenly transformed.

His skin began to soften, and a large amount of black liquid oozed from it, instantly covering his entire body.

The black liquid reacted with unknown components in the air and immediately began to harden. Just one second later, a pure black shell covered Zhang Shaojie’s body.

But it wasn’t over. After the shell hardened, Zhang Shaojie roared again. The shell immediately sprouted bizarrely shaped weapons, such as barbs and giant, chitinous scimitars.

Black Bone Armor (A-Class, Active Ability): Upon activation, the host will complete the Black Bone Armor Conversion within one second. In the Black Bone Armor state, the host’s defense capabilities are greatly increased, and internal organs will no longer be fatal weak points. However, in the Black Bone Armor state, the host’s mobility is halved.

Whether this skill, which exchanged mobility for enhanced defensive power, was worth it, and how much effect it could have, varied from person to person.

But at least for this moment, Zhang Shaojie’s Black Bone Armor provided him with some sense of security.

Meanwhile, Ye Nan was hiding behind Zhang Shaojie, his hand in his space ring, constantly searching for a particular item.

「 」

Seeing Zhang Shaojie’s skill, Wen Yu, who was observing from the sidelines, sighed silently.

This Ye Nan... no wonder he’s so unlucky. The teammates he recruits are either useless or utter trash. It’d be a miracle if he ever became truly powerful...

It’s no wonder I think that way, Wen Yu mused. To me, this brute Zhang Shaojie, supposedly the strongest member of Ye Nan’s little team, actually whipped out a mere A-Class skill when facing Kasu... Such pathetic strength! I wouldn’t even spare it a second glance!

Strictly speaking, Zhang Shaojie’s strength wasn’t bad. His overall capabilities could be considered upper-middle tier among Peak Level 5 professionists.

However, that level was woefully inadequate for the current situation.

Just as Wen Yu expected, Kasu merely waved his hand nonchalantly at Zhang Shaojie’s transformed body.

The angelic phantom behind him roared, and a colossal sword of pure white light, nearly ten meters long, slowly materialized before Kasu.

Then, Kasu pointed a finger lightly in Zhang Shaojie’s direction.

”WHOOSH!”

A faint sound of tearing air, like a bee’s hum, was followed by a flash of light.

”BOOM!”

A deafening blast erupted. Amidst the blinding, flashing white light, Wen Yu clearly saw Zhang Shaojie’s Black Bone Armor offer no resistance. The instant it met the pure white light sword, it shattered into fragments. Most of his body was directly purified into flying ash, leaving only the parts from his shoulders up. His savage head, encased in the bone armor, stared dazedly at the pure white angel soaring majestically in the sky.

With just one strike, Zhang Shaojie had lost all ability to fight!

「 」

Why were Sequence members ranked as they were?

When everyone was at Peak Level 5 and lacked Limit Breaking Abilities, the disparity between SSS-Class skills and A-Class skills was the sole benchmark for combat power.

Kasu possessed five abilities of S-Class or higher, while Zhang Shaojie had only one S-Class ability. Even if their physical fitness levels were ostensibly the same, once a battle began, the outcome would inevitably be an instant kill!

And from Kasu’s attack to this point, a mere two seconds had elapsed!

「 」

The swift and decisive instant kill left Ye Nan dumbfounded; even the movements of his hands faltered for a moment.

Ye Nan’s strength was low, and low strength meant a limited perspective.

He simply couldn’t imagine the terrifying extent of power wielded by that small handful of individuals who truly stood at the world’s apex.

Kasu’s true strength lay not in speed, but in his terrifying instantaneous burst power, formidable area-of-effect capabilities, and endurance for protracted battles!

Chasing someone down was one thing; a direct, head-on confrontation was another entirely...

Fortunately, Ye Nan’s team had members who were quick to react and possessed ”Strong Power.”

「 」

Akad, at the side, swiftly helped up Zhang Shaojie, who had little more than half his body remaining. He then maneuvered Zhang Shaojie’s body so his head shielded Ye Nan’s hand, which was fumbling with the space ring.

”Hurry up and do what you need to do!”

He sent a reminder to Ye Nan via Spiritual Fluctuation, then turned to Kasu, flashing a ”radiantly enthusiastic” smile.

”Hi, Kasu. I have a last wish.”

「 」

”State your last wish. If it’s a good one, I’ll help you fulfill it!”

Pure white wings, an angelic phantom shimmering behind him, and a majestic voice thundering from above—at this moment, Kasu truly looked as brilliant and magnificent as an angel descended to the mortal realm.

However, Kasu’s words made Wen Yu snort with laughter.

Kasu must have never read Cathay’s NovelFires, Wen Yu thought. He clearly doesn’t get the trope ’villains die from talking too much.’ If you’re going to kill someone, just do it. What’s all this nonsense about principles?

Thinking this, Wen Yu cast a peculiar glance at Ye Nan, who was hidden behind Akad and Zhang Shaojie, furtively and frantically rummaging through his space ring.

Kasu actually fell for such a crude stalling tactic. This truly redefines my understanding of him, Wen Yu mused. He’s already reached Sequence Number 5; how can he still be so naive? As the saying goes, a bystander often sees things more clearly. None of their actions escaped my senses. However, I see no reason to alert Kasu to Ye Nan’s little scheme, just as I couldn’t care less if Ye Nan lives or dies.

And Akad, who had dealt with Kasu countless times, naturally understood his personality well.

To put it nicely, Kasu was ’steadfast in his principles.’ To put it bluntly, he was ’single-minded’ and utterly inflexible. If not for his formidable strength, he would have been duped and killed countless times over by now!

Akad had heard Kasu utter the phrase ”State your last wish” at least three times before!

So, Akad handled the situation with practiced ease.

He plopped down on the ground, his face a mask of sorrow as he began, ”Thirty years ago, I had a neighbor. My neighbor’s family had a little dog, and its name was Wang Cai...”
