Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

”But, I don’t see any difference from before?”

Wen Yu envied the divine beast species, not the title itself, but the superior strength of the divine beast species! What’s the use of being a divine beast species if my power hadn’t changed?

Just as Wen Yu finished speaking, he saw Victor looking at him with a cold and aloof gaze, as if looking at a fool.

”Do you know how divine beast species are born?”

Upon hearing Victor’s words, Wen Yu suddenly realized.

「...」

Star was conceived within an ancient tree for who knows how long—Wen Yu knew nothing of the process of its gestation, but upon its birth, Star was indeed a divine beast species, that much is true. Victor was resurrected, blessed by the mighty power of Earth. During this process, both transformations happened almost instantly, with scarcely any gradual process. The situation with Wen Yu was different now!

Trace amounts of Origin Energy had entered Wen Yu’s body, giving him the aura of a divine beast species, yet not the species innate talent.

Victor drew this conclusion.

”The Origin Energy in your body is not enough. When it accumulates sufficiently, you will transform into a divine beast species. This process is irreversible and happens instantly; there won’t be any noticeable increase in strength during the accumulation process.”

”So, how much more Origin Energy do I need?”

”...A huge amount... At this rate, ten years? Fifteen years? Anyway, you’ll have to wait...”

Wen Yu was left speechless.

Indeed, how could the Almighty Demon Vine possibly absorb enough Origin Energy to transform me into a divine beast species in just a few hours? In a nutshell, for the current me, this might just be a pie in the sky!

”However, the fact that this Almighty Demon Vine can absorb Earth’s Origin Energy feels a bit strange...” Star muttered from the side.

Star’s remark was made casually, but it left Wen Yu and his soul pets speechless.

The idea of forcibly plundering Earth’s Origin Energy to enhance oneself sounded perfect, but the strange transformation of the Almighty Demon Vine made Wen Yu apprehensive. This predatory method reminded Wen Yu of the means the Demon Tribe used on Earth, as mentioned by Tang Haofei. It’s beneficial for Wen Yu in the short term, but what about the long term? Nobody could say for sure.

”Just use it. You can always get rid of it, right? Besides, when it comes to divine beast species on Earth, one more or one less doesn’t make a difference. Earth wouldn’t mind providing the Origin Energy needed for another divine beast species. But, you’d best be careful. This thing, this newborn Soul and its newly awakened ability, is indeed strange.”

The clever Victor perceived Wen Yu’s thoughts and promptly reassured him.

Indeed, those were Wen Yu’s true thoughts—he couldn’t pass up the benefits, even if there might be unknown dangers and traps. As the only item with Limit Breaking Abilities currently in his possession, he simply couldn’t afford to abandon the Almighty Demon Vine!

「...」

”Alright, let’s stop discussing this.”

Wen Yu decisively terminated the discussion about divine beast species—compared to his own transformation into a divine beast species and the strange changes in the Almighty Demon Vine, focusing on the current situation was more pressing for Wen Yu!

With that, Wen Yu ignored the scattered snowflakes on the ground, sat down directly, signaled to his three soul pets, patted the small Soul Beast on his shoulder, and declared, ”Meeting.”

「...」

”So, that’s the situation.”

Wen Yu briefly explained the current circumstances.

”So we’re lost, right? That’s easy. I can find the way back by following your scent,” Cyclops quickly stated his usefulness.

”I want to go back too,” Star timidly raised his small paw.

”I don’t care where I go,” Victor squinted, speaking listlessly.

”And me, and me! Wherever Boss goes, I go!” The small Soul Beast bounced excitedly.

”Alright, the plan doesn’t change. We continue back to CH Town. Cyclops, you take the lead.”

Cyclops’s head immediately drooped.

”Can I change my mind and say I can’t find the way back?”

”Stop dawdling...”

「...」

Cyclops running at full speed wasn’t much slower than Star. However, one was flying and the other running, and with Cyclops dragging his feet, the journey back became considerably longer. A distance Wen Yu covered in a few hours might take Cyclops one to two days.

However, the long journey had its advantages. At least, during this time, Wen Yu could observe the situation here in detail.

When they passed by a small town, Wen Yu finally learned where he was: Mongolia.

Unfortunately, the small town showed no signs of human life, only Demon Fiends and a few Demonized zombies.

After the Demon Realm’s Gate opened, zombies underwent another transformation due to the Demonic Qi. This significantly enhanced their overall strength. Although they still lacked skills, their species innate talent was greatly improved: sharp fangs, deadly claws, and their entire bodies were covered in black, fish-like scales. However, very few of them redeveloped intelligence and Souls. Overall, they were still considered low-tier entities.

Frankly, in his past life, even in M City, zombies had basically gone extinct. Seeing zombies in Mongolia was indeed an eye-opener. From this, one could also see how desolate Mongolia had become after the apocalypse!

”The situation here isn’t good... The number of Demon Fiends isn’t high, we haven’t seen a single Human, and the mutant beasts are also scattered,” Star, perched on Wen Yu’s head, commented on Mongolia’s current state.

”It seems like the Humans of Mongolia have moved to Yanjing. As for the mutant beasts, I’m not sure. This place should be teeming with mutant beasts; it’s odd to see so few of them now.”

It wasn’t just that mutant beasts were scarce; Demon Fiends were few, and even mutated insects and plants were rare... Wen Yu had no urge to delve deep into the reasons. As long as one thing was certain, this place was not a suitable hunting ground for him!

”Let’s go. Cyclops, speed up. We’ll make a quick trip back to CH Town, take a look, and then head directly to South Asia.”

Wen Yu knew for a fact that after the defeat in Battle Zone Yanjing, large Demon Groups from Cathay had already flocked to India. India had a large and extremely dense population—a population that meant more potential combatants, greater combat power, and fertile ground for nurturing powerful experts! Even though India currently lacked many Sequence-class powerful experts, its sheer population size gave it a high chance of withstanding the demon plague’s assault. Moreover, it was foreseeable that if India could survive this demon plague, the number of its powerful experts would skyrocket. The battles there, both now and in the future, were bound to be intense. Compared to sparsely populated Mongolia, India was his priority!

”Boss, I need to pee.”

”Hurry up!!!”

A lazy donkey always needs the latrine when it’s time to grind—that was Cyclops, wasn’t it...?
