Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Everything happening in the room across from his, even the ”whispers” Ye Nan shared with Zhang Shaojie and Akad, did not escape Wen Yu’s perception.

With Wen Yu’s thirteen thousand physique points, the gap was simply enormous compared to Zhang Shaojie, the strongest of the group, who was at peak Level 5 with merely 2,000 physique points.

Looking at his familiar den, Wen Yu ignored the pervasive dust and cracked walls. He casually lay on the bed, feigning sleep.

In truth, from the moment he detected Ye Nan and the others, Wen Yu had clearly sorted out his relationship with them.

Before Wen Yu, Ye Nan had seemed like an ant. Perhaps due to the brutal conflict Wen Yu had recently experienced in the Battle of the Two Realms, his murderous intent wasn’t strong at the time, so he’d spared Ye Nan.

What happened after that, Wen Yu didn’t know...

However, since he had shown Ye Nan mercy back then, there was no need to rehash the past now. His relationship with Ye Nan—was non-existent!

As for Akad and the other one, Zhang Shaojie, Wen Yu had even less to consider—he had no entanglement with them whatsoever.

So, as long as they didn’t bother him, Wen Yu couldn’t be bothered with them.

「...」

KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.

Clear knocks echoed. Ye Nan was already standing at Wen Yu’s front door.

”Cyclops, get the door.”

Instructing Cyclops to open the door, Wen Yu sat up on the bed.

Not long after, Ye Nan entered Wen Yu’s bedroom, his face devoid of expression.

Several months had passed since they last met, and Ye Nan looked thinner.

The man, who appeared to be in his thirties, now looked even older. Evidently, Ye Nan must have suffered considerably over the past few months.

However, appearances weren’t the point. As Ye Nan approached, a profound sense of disgust welled up from the depths of Wen Yu’s heart.

Sensing this strange emotion within himself, Wen Yu frowned.

”Is this your...”

”It’s an occupational trait. I changed my profession, but there are some side effects.”

Ye Nan’s tone was calm, as if he didn’t realize the trouble this innate aversion to others could cause him.

Wen Yu, however, paid it no mind either.

”Is the profession strong?”

”Very strong! At least, I’m very satisfied.”

”That’s good.”

After their brief exchange, Wen Yu’s regard for Ye Nan actually increased somewhat.

Although Wen Yu didn’t know what Ye Nan had experienced, he respected Ye Nan’s attitude: ”As long as the profession is strong enough, who cares about the side effects?”

Shifting his position casually, Wen Yu reclined on the bed once again, asking as though in passing, ”What about your wife and Little Ye Zi?”

”They’re dead.”

Ye Nan stated the fact of his family’s demise in a calm, mechanical tone.

Wen Yu, for his part, felt nothing regarding the deaths of these people he had barely known.

In this world, there were far too many partings and deaths.

”How did they die?”

”Murdered by Wanping.”

”Oh.”

So, he had indirectly caused their deaths. However, there was no need to voice this—Ye Nan’s family had tried to poison him first. Wen Yu felt no guilt.

”So, you returned this time to seek revenge on Wanping? When I went to Yanjing, Wanping had already fled. Judging by your actions, he must have run back to M City.”

”Yes, I’ve confirmed he’s in M City, but I haven’t found his exact location. I heard you and Wanping also have some friction. Want to team up?”

Hearing Ye Nan’s invitation to join forces against Wanping, Wen Yu quickly reviewed his own grudges with Wanping in his mind.

After a moment, Wen Yu gently shook his head.

”Forget it. Looking at you, you seem confident you can catch Wanping even without me. I won’t get involved in this.”

”He holds a grudge against you; he’s always wanted to kill you.”

”I know.”

Wen Yu nodded.

”Ignoring an enemy like that isn’t your style,” Ye Nan said, still trying to persuade Wen Yu to act with him.

Wen Yu was unclear about Ye Nan’s overall strength, but Ye Nan knew his own strength clearly. Given Ye Nan’s current strength—even including Zhang Shaojie and Akad—if they were to confront Wanping, the outcome would be uncertain.

With Wen Yu involved, Wanping’s chances of survival would plummet!

However...

”Have you found his exact location yet?”

Ye Nan shook his head.

”What about the general direction? M City, and if you include the nearby towns and mountainous regions—these areas aren’t huge, but they’re not small either. Have you identified a specific zone?”

Ye Nan still shook his head.

”So, you see? What’s the point of me tagging along aimlessly with you?”

”You might be overestimating his importance to me. If he considers me an enemy, that’s his business. I don’t consider him one.”

”To me, he’s just small fry. I couldn’t care less about his strength. If he stays out of my sight, he’s lucky, because I don’t have time to play hide-and-seek with him. But if he dares to show his face, I won’t mind dealing with him casually.”

”That’s my stance. So, drop any notion of me getting involved. I really can’t be bothered with your little squabbles.”

Wen Yu’s tone wasn’t mocking, but the attitude conveyed by his words was unmistakable: you can play your games with Wanping, but I want no part in it.

Wen Yu had already roughly planned his next few days. Trying to catch Wanping would mean wasting ten to fifteen days here, with no guarantee of success—Wen Yu was actually somewhat impressed by Wanping’s knack for escaping.

It really wasn’t worth it!

Moreover, as long as Wanping still harbored hatred for him, he would definitely come seeking him out.

When that time comes, it’ll just be a matter of who is stronger—would Wen Yu be afraid of Wanping?

Last time, Wanping only managed to escape because he had the Rebirth ability, catching Wen Yu off guard. But now, Wen Yu was prepared. If Wanping could slip away from him again, Wen Yu might as well write his name backward!

「...」

Ye Nan, rendered speechless by Wen Yu, stood at the bedroom doorway and remained silent for a long while before speaking again.

”In that case, I’ll leave.”

”Hmm, alright. You don’t need to move out. I’ll be leaving early tomorrow morning. I’m not sure where I’m headed next. If you still intend to go after Wanping, leave me a way to contact you.”

”When you catch him, notify me so I know Wanping is dead. If Wanping comes looking for me, I’ll let you know. Then you can come, and I’ll slaughter Wanping in front of you. Consider it a gesture regarding the deaths of your wife and Little Ye Zi.”

Hearing Wen Yu’s words, Ye Nan was silent for a moment before nodding slightly.

”Thank you.”

”No need for thanks. It’s nothing.”
