Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 610: Chapter 174: Follow-up_1

With a relaxed and carefree heart, Wen Yu strolled through the streets of the Yanjing Assembly Site.

After bidding Qin Tian farewell, the remaining aspects of the ’Sea King Control Plan’ had little to do with Wen Yu—though, of course, the possibility remained that Lin Haifeng might try to pin this black pot on him.

But as long as Lin Haifeng wasn’t completely irrational, he wouldn’t dare risk incurring Wen Yu’s monstrous wrath. Wen Yu was indeed bottling up a nameless rage with nowhere to vent; all that was missing was a simple fuse!

At this moment, Wen Yu felt entirely like a spectator in the stands, watching a play unfold on stage.

And it had to be said, being a spectator was definitely far more satisfying than personally participating in these damn messes!

After the ”attack incident,” a tense atmosphere permeated the Yanjing Assembly Site, where every rustle of wind and cry of a crane caused alarm.

The once-dense crowds in the outer city zone had long since vanished, replaced by one squad after another of fully armed soldiers.

Wen Yu’s attire, and the small Soul Beast floating by his shoulder, might not be known to everyone in the Yanjing Assembly Site, but the military personnel certainly recognized him. Therefore, no unobservant fool dared to disturb Wen Yu’s leisurely stroll.

Before he knew it, evening had crept past seven o’clock.

As countless lights illuminated the massive underbelly of the Eternal Sky City hanging overhead, the matter concerning Qin Tian finally reached a resolution.

In another plaza within the outer city zone, Qin Tian’s portrait was hung high on a building.

Wen Yu squeezed through the dense crowd and fixed his gaze on Qin Tian’s wanted poster.

It read:

Qin Tian: Sequence Number 4.

Formerly a member of the Independents Mutual Aid Federation, but secretly a remnant of the Demon Worship Sect.

This assassination plot was initiated by Sequence Number 4 Qin Tian and Sequence Number 97 Xie Yan, a premeditated conspiracy targeting the supreme leader of the Human Race—Lin Haifeng.

Xie Yan has been captured, but Qin Tian is still at large.

The Human Race and Sea Clan have issued a joint warrant for Qin Tian’s arrest, with a reward of...

Wen Yu didn’t read the rest.

Qin Tian...

A remnant of the Demon Worship Sect...

Wen Yu naturally knew what this was all about. However, the warrant had been issued, so the pretext for arresting Qin Tian no longer mattered.

He leisurely walked back to the Three Skulls Society headquarters.

Noticing Yang Hong’s and Wang Fucai’s questioning gazes, Wen Yu simply gave a silent wave of his hand.

Yang Hong and Wang Fucai wisely refrained from asking any further questions.

As if returning to his normal life, Wen Yu went back to his room.

His days reverted to a familiar routine: eating, sleeping, and watching his soul pets play around.

But secretly, Wen Yu had already laid out all his plans.

Three days!

In three days, Wen Yu would leave this place, and it was very likely he would never return!

”The Demon Worship Sect?”

Hearing the Sea King’s question, Lin Haifeng slowly nodded.

”Yes, the Demon Worship Sect. It’s a church organization that worships the Demon Tribe. It was prevalent for a while before the Demon Realm’s Gate opened. I thought I had eradicated it, but I didn’t expect it to rise from the ashes now.”

”I am responsible for the trouble this has caused you, Honorable Sea King. Please accept my apologies.”

Lin Haifeng’s words were soft, and his attitude was quite good—this slightly eased the Sea King’s anger.

The Sea King glanced at his mostly healed wounds, then at the mere four clan members remaining beside him. After a long pause, he sighed in frustration.

”That Sequence Number 4, have you caught him?”

Lin Haifeng shook his head.

”We haven’t caught him, but the wanted poster has been issued.”

”What about the one you did catch?”

”He is still being interrogated.”

The Sea King nodded, his face expressionless, seemingly contemplating something.

After a while, the Sea King spoke again.

”I heard that Sequence Number 4 seems to have some sort of relationship with Sequence Number 2...”

”No. Mister Tang Haofei has confirmed that Sequence Number 2 was unaware of Sequence Number 4’s true identity. Furthermore, upon learning the truth of the matter, Sequence Number 2 was also furious.”

”He won’t be a problem.”

Hearing Lin Haifeng’s explanation, the Sea King seemed to relax.

”’That’s good, that’s good,’ the Sea King said, sounding relieved. ’I must say, you humans are far too complicated. You’re all the same species, so why must you divide yourselves into so many factions?’”

Having witnessed the strength of Tang Haofei and Qin Tian, the Sea King had no wish to needlessly antagonize an enemy of Sequence Number 2’s caliber. Hearing Lin Haifeng’s assurance that Sequence Number 2 would not be a problem, the Sea King relaxed somewhat.

”By the way, this alliance ceremony was disrupted by these remnants of the Demon Worship Sect. Honorable Sea King, what are your thoughts...?”

The alliance was imperative. The ’assassination attempt on Lin Haifeng’ had not made the Sea King abandon it.

Although it appeared his side had suffered the greatest losses, that was merely misfortune. Compared to the significant matter of the alliance between the two races, the Sea King wasn’t going to dwell on this.

”’Let’s set it for three days from now,’ the Sea King declared. ’I hope there won’t be any more unforeseen incidents this time.’”

”’Very well, three days from now it is,’ Lin Haifeng agreed. ’Coincidentally, the remnants of the Demon Worship Sect we’ve captured are also scheduled for execution in three days. We shall use the lives of these Demon Tribe lackeys to consecrate the glorious alliance of our two races!’”

After bidding farewell to the Sea King, Lin Haifeng finally returned to his office.

Sensing the fluctuations transmitted back from the Heartbiter Mother Worm inside him, Lin Haifeng let out a relaxed breath.

The heart-eating worms had been implanted, but a significant amount of time was still needed before they would truly become effective. Fortunately, this time the plan had no loopholes. At least, on the surface, the Sea King hadn’t shown any suspicion.

The seed had been smoothly sown. Next, he just had to wait for the moment it would blossom and bear fruit.

At this thought, Lin Haifeng smiled and shook his head, casually picking up a document from his desk.

”It has been ascertained that Vincent violated military regulations by illegally confining Akad, leading to the re-disappearance of the previously apprehended Akad. Vincent is hereby sentenced to fifteen days of imprisonment and a fine of 100 Level 5 magic crystals.”

Seeing this, Lin Haifeng gave a knowing smile and casually scribbled ’Read’ on the document.

These backlogged, unresolved issues were, in comparison to the ’Sea King Control Plan,’ mere trifles.

Then, Lin Haifeng picked up the report below it.

”Sequence Number 5 Kasu, dissatisfied with Vincent’s conduct and the military’s punishment of Vincent, has submitted his resignation to the Military Department. Mister Tang Haofei, after review, has approved Kasu’s resignation.”

Seeing this, Lin Haifeng frowned slightly.

Kasu, being one of the military’s more prominent powerful experts, even though his relationship with the military was originally one of cooperation, his departure at this juncture still left Lin Haifeng feeling somewhat displeased.

A cooked duck flying away right from under one’s nose—who wouldn’t feel upset by that?

However... Lin Haifeng was not a petty man. He casually added a note to the document:

”’Inform Kasu that Fran has predicted Akad may appear in the Northeast region of Cathay. Issue Kasu an additional year’s salary, do not rescind his military rank, and also have the Military Department convey to Kasu that the military’s doors will always be open to him!’”

Executing matters flawlessly—that was Lin Haifeng’s style!

Subsequently, Lin Haifeng picked up another document lying on his desk.

At the top of the document, a few large characters seemed to shimmer.

Report on the Whereabouts of Sequence Number 2, Wen Yu...

After casually leafing through it, Lin Haifeng sighed softly.

No thunderous rage, no furious outburst.

This actually exceeded Lin Haifeng’s expectations.

Holding the document, Lin Haifeng pondered for a long moment before chuckling softly.

Wen Yu seems to have learned a lot from these events as well.

”Shadow?”

”Yes, Sir.”

”Tell the Intelligence Department to cancel the surveillance on Wen Yu.”

”Understood, Sir.”

”Also, retrieve the detailed progress reports for the modification plans of the Demigod and the Azure Dragon, and bring them to me. Simultaneously, cancel the war alert for the Azure Dragon and the Demigod.”

”Yes, Sir.”

”Hmm... how are things at home recently?”

”Everything is normal.”

”What about Xiao Xue?”

”She has been actively contacting several Generals recently...” Shadow hesitated for a moment as he said this.

Shadow was crystal clear on Lin Haifeng’s family matters. But knowing was one thing; on certain issues, pretending not to know was often the better choice.

Hearing this, Lin Haifeng just smiled and shook his head.

Lin Haifeng understood Xiao Xue’s actions and her reasons perfectly.

But what good would it do?

Could a few Generals really change a decision he had made?

”Does Fang Bai know about this?”

”He’s slightly aware, but Fang Bai hasn’t participated. He seems to find such things quite distasteful.”

Yes, that boy Fang Bai... he’s still not ruthless enough in the end...

Lin Haifeng sighed with feeling, then set aside these various family trifles and casually instructed,

”Well, go and attend to your tasks.”
