Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Even though Wen Yu had some doubts about the abrupt loss of contact from Qin Tian and Arthur, he always adhered to a particular viewpoint in his actions.

”A wise man keeps himself away from danger”—the euphemistic way of saying it.

The straightforward version, however, was to mind one’s own business and disregard everyone else.

Under the current circumstances, Wen Yu was afraid that if he wasn’t careful, he would once again fall into a trap set by Lin Haifeng.

So, at this moment, just before the alliance ceremony commenced, even if the earth were to split and the sky fall, as long as the alliance ceremony was not over and Lin Haifeng’s Sea King control plan had not yielded results, Wen Yu would absolutely refuse to budge an inch.

Perhaps they were just delayed by something, Wen Yu thought, deceiving himself somewhat.

After considering this, Wen Yu completely adopted the stance of an outsider, eating and drinking while watching the television screen.

When the hands on his watch discreetly passed ten o’clock and the countdown on the screen ended, the broadcast image switched from a panel of white-haired experts engaged in animated discussion to the live scene at People’s Square.

”It’s started,” Yang Hong remarked with interest.

Wen Yu, hearing him, responded indifferently, ”Indeed, it has.”

The vast People’s Square in Yanjing’s outer city zone was once known as its largest refugee camp. Countless refugees fleeing to Yanjing from all over the world were settled here, each provided with a set of bedding and a tent—such was the military’s ”consideration.”

The official reason for holding the alliance ceremony here today was twofold: to familiarize the masses with the Sea King Tribe through their public appearance, thereby deepening humanity’s understanding of the deep-sea species, and to boost human confidence in resisting the Demon Tribe.

Behind the scenes, however, Lin Haifeng’s intention was simple: the more people, the grander and messier the scene, the easier it would be to employ certain tactics.

If it were merely a matter of signing a contract, it could be done anywhere. But if the contract were to be signed in the deep sea, how could Lin Haifeng meddle?

In short, the official reasoning persuaded the Sea King. He also needed this public signing ceremony to familiarize humans with the appearance of the Sea King Tribe and reduce human hostility towards another intelligent species coexisting on Earth. This could only be beneficial for the fight against the demon plague.

Therefore, today, the once chaotic People’s Square had been cleaned up early. Military personnel had set up a cordon a kilometer away and laid a red carpet on the ground as a sign of respect for the Sea King.

The huge rostrum had been erected. Everything was ready; only the arrival of the main characters was awaited for this grand play to begin!

The ”main characters” did not keep everyone waiting for long.

The alliance ceremony, originally scheduled for ten o’clock, began promptly at ten-thirty—not considered a significant delay for such a large-scale event.

When the imposing military vehicle drove into the venue, everyone, whether watching on TV or standing among the crowd outside the cordon, knew the true protagonists had arrived.

The military vehicle’s door opened slowly, and Lin Haifeng stepped out first.

A pure black suit accentuated his figure.

The old man, not originally tall, appeared somewhat domineering in this attire.

But when the other protagonist stepped out of the military vehicle, a collective gasp swept through the crowd.

The Sea King Tribe...

From a human aesthetic perspective, they were indeed quite terrifying to behold.

A ferocious expression that might have been a smile was plastered on the Sea King’s face. He waved to the surrounding crowd in a posture learned from who-knows-where, looking quite pleased with himself.

Perhaps he was greeting the onlooking masses...

Wang Fucai, beside Wen Yu, made an odd sound, perhaps sighing at the Sea King Tribe’s appearance. ”Look at this demeanor. TSK TSK.”

Wen Yu, however, observed carefully for a long moment before nodding slightly and saying, ”They do resemble the Ancient Demons somewhat, but they are larger. Their species innate talent is likely quite strong!”

Wen Yu didn’t care what the Sea King Tribe looked like—that was a matter of birth. Besides, appearances didn’t matter; strength was key.

And judging by their appearance, the Sea King Tribe’s strength was probably considerable.

After the Sea King waved to the crowd, the preparations Lin Haifeng had made in advance at the venue took effect.

Scattered applause began, gradually influencing the surrounding crowd, many of whom were still confused or in shock. After some time, the applause swelled to a level that could make the Sea King feel that ”humanity’s acceptance of the Sea King Tribe was reasonably good.” Only then did the Sea King step onto the red carpet.

Behind Lin Haifeng, the military contingent led by Tang Haofei and Walter followed closely. Simultaneously, members of the Sea King Tribe trailed after their Sea King.

Each leader had exactly ten bodyguards—no more, no less.

Under the military’s tight security, the vast venue contained only these combat-ready personnel and a few staff members.

Lin Haifeng and the Sea King walked along the red carpet to the rostrum.

The Sea King’s attendants and Tang Haofei’s contingent dutifully remained below the rostrum.

Although many knew Tang Haofei’s status was no less than Lin Haifeng’s, and that he was not Lin Haifeng’s subordinate, Tang Haofei always deferred to Lin Haifeng in public.

After Lin Haifeng and the Sea King exchanged some pleasantries and took their seats, the host stepped onto the stage and began to speak.

This signified the official start of the alliance ceremony!

Wen Yu didn’t hear a single word of the host’s official platitudes.

Watching the figures of Lin Haifeng and the Sea King on the screen, especially Lin Haifeng’s ”fake” smile, Wen Yu silently mourned for the Sea King in his heart for three seconds.

A creature that awakened its intelligence after the apocalypse, no matter how talented, how could it possibly outwit Lin Haifeng, a man embodying all cunning and schemes? he mused.

Half an hour passed in a flash. When the host finally finished his tedious spiel, Lin Haifeng and the Sea King led the applause.

Then, Lin Haifeng rose to give his speech.

The dapper old man in a suit slightly adjusted his collar, then walked unhurriedly to the lectern.

”AHEM.”

Lin Haifeng cleared his throat lightly into the microphone, then began to speak in a resonant voice.

”Today marks the alliance between the Human Race and the Sea Clan—”

”Wait! I have a question!”

Cloaked in a black robe and standing amidst the crowd, Qin Tian watched the host’s speech expressionlessly, awaiting the signal to begin the mission.

After a while, once the host had finished his bullshit speech, Lin Haifeng slowly walked to the front of the stage and cleared his throat twice...

The instruction to start the mission has been delivered...

Then, my ”teammates”...

Should also be making their move now, right?
