Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 836: Chapter 835: Could it be that the Main World is a.........

After Fang Zheng retrieved the Recombination Device, perhaps the Missionary also realized that persistence was futile, so he decisively withdrew his forces and chose to retreat. Soon, Fang Zheng saw that the Forerunner warship activated the warp space, and then, along with the remaining Star Alliance Fleet, swiftly fled.

”All Sea Mist, heed my command, warp to Anshune Star immediately, and prepare for the next step. Iona, dispatch a stealth ship to follow the Missionary, don’t lose its position.”

”Understood, I will send Leander for reconnaissance.”

”Very well.”

Hearing Iona’s response, Fang Zheng nodded in satisfaction, then waved his hand.

”Everyone, prepare to set off. Target... Anshune Star!!”

Soon, the Sea Mist Fleet rapidly transformed into light beams and disappeared into the depths of the universe, leaving behind a group of dumbfounded researchers in the research station.

And a banner and five hundred yuan.

Previously, through the warp coordinates, Fang Zheng already knew that the Missionary had not returned to Anshune Star, so he rightfully claimed the planet as his own. After all, the original owners, the Forerunners, were all dead, and since it was unclaimed territory, wasn’t it finders-keepers?

I came, I saw, I conquered.

Upon ”returning” to Anshune Star, Fang Zheng immediately began the next phase of work. He first summoned Neptune and several other research ships and a part of the warships to research together with Iona to fully understand the Forerunner technology on Anshune Star. Meanwhile, Fang Zheng dispatched another part of the Sea Mist warships to other Shield Worlds to ”rob graves and loot tombs.” Since there were communication channels between each of the Shield Worlds, Nymph quickly locked onto their locations, so Fang Zheng sent these Sea Mist warships in groups to explore the other Shield Worlds.

If there were human or Star Alliance activities in those Shield Worlds, they were to ignore it; if not... hehehe... you know what to do.

The Sea Mist warships were quite excited about this since, when Fang Zheng recruited them, he promised they would venture into the stars and sea. Now that they finally reached the stars and sea, they were naturally thrilled beyond measure. Apart from a few warships like Unicorn staying behind to guard Anshune Star, all the other Sea Mist warships eagerly rushed away once Fang Zheng assigned them their tasks.

Only at this moment did Fang Zheng finally have time to ponder some issues he previously hadn’t considered.

”So... Nymph, you mean Shield Worlds were used by the Forerunners as refuges?”

”Yes, Master.”

Sitting in front of the control panel, Nymph rapidly collected and packed the Forerunner technology data while nodding.

”According to the records, the Forerunners initially created Shield Worlds to counter the Hongmo, but it all started with the invasion by the Ancient Humans...”

Through Nymph’s introduction, Fang Zheng finally understood the entire background and storyline of this world.

And it all started with the Pioneers.

According to the historical records of the Forerunners, the Pioneers were the most powerful civilization race in the Galaxy. They were responsible for spreading life and civilization in the Milky Way, and eliminating those deemed as ”failures.” The Forerunners were one of the civilizations created by the Pioneers, and they were also destined to be the next civilization to be wiped out by the Pioneers.

However, the technology of the Forerunners was only one rank lower than the Pioneers, so they were unwilling to sit still and wait for death. Thus, the Forerunners launched a preemptive attack against the Pioneers.

No one knows exactly what happened during this period. The only known fact is that the Forerunners won the war, driving the Pioneers out of the Milky Way---well, hearing this, Fang Zheng felt that the Pioneers might not have been as powerful as imagined. Of course, it’s hard to say, as the records indicated the Pioneers were better at creation. If they were composed of powerful yet sparse entities, then it’s possible they were defeated by the Forerunners using sheer numbers.

This is similar to why the Dragon Race cannot become the world rulers in the Main World no matter how powerful they are.

Afterwards, the Ancient Human civilization began to develop. They possessed great wisdom and, through studying the technology left behind by the Pioneers, obtained very powerful abilities. Soon, the Ancient Humans launched an attack on the Forerunners. Initially, the Forerunners thought that the Ancient Humans simply wanted to invade, so they launched a counterattack. The war between the Ancient Humans and the Forerunners continued for over a thousand years, ultimately ending with the complete defeat of the Ancient Humans.

The remaining Ancient Humans were subjected to genetic regression by the Forerunners and then returned to Earth, and their creations were completely destroyed.

However, it wasn’t until after this that the Forerunners discovered the true reason behind the Ancient Human invasion of their territories—the Hongmo.

This parasitic species was imbued with extremely powerful and terrifying abilities. The Ancient Humans were forced to invade the Forerunners’ territories to fight them. Due to the parasitic nature of the Hongmo, the Ancient Humans had to completely destroy the planets they infected. This was another reason why the Ancient Humans attacked the Forerunners’ planets... Initially, the Forerunners did not believe the Ancient Humans’ warnings. They dismissed the Hongmo as just some primitive infectious disease, thinking it was merely an excuse by the Ancient Humans to invade and destroy the Forerunners.

But it was too late when the Hongmo army appeared before the Forerunners.

History always repeats itself. The Ancient Humans, after suffering enormous losses in the war against the Hongmo, were ultimately too weakened to resist the Forerunners and were defeated.

Now, after being severely weakened in their war with the Ancient Humans, the Forerunners were unable to fend off the Hongmo’s invasion. Therefore, the Forerunners had no choice but to start manufacturing the ”Aura” as the final measure against the Hongmo. When the ”Aura” was activated, it would destroy and annihilate all creatures within the Milky Way, including the Hongmo.

To preserve samples of life in the Milky Way, the Think Tank Leader of the Forerunners began building Arks and Shield Worlds to prevent the extinction of life in the entire galaxy.

Ultimately, the Forerunners lost the war against the Hongmo and activated the ”Aura,” wiping out all life not protected by the Shield Worlds and Ring Belts within the Milky Way, including the Forerunners themselves, who were completely eradicated in this catastrophe... And this is the origin of the Shield Worlds...

”Shield World...”

Raising his head, Fang Zheng looked at this primitive, yet life-filled world before him, where various animals and plants could be seen everywhere. It was like another new world, a Garden of Eden.

However, Fang Zheng was thinking beyond just this.

After learning all about the Forerunners from Nymph, Fang Zheng began to have serious doubts about the Main World. Especially with what he had seen, the ”cage,” it prompted Fang Zheng to start pondering a question.

Is the Main World possibly a ”Shield World” itself too?

Is its function similar to that of the Forerunners’ Shield Worlds in this universe, designed to preserve other biological samples?

On reflection, this possibility not only exists but is quite significant. From any perspective, the biodiversity in the Main World is unusually abundant. Furthermore, the disparities between different civilizations, such as humanity, elves, dwarves, and gnome civilizations, aren’t absurdly large. Originally, races that could have ruled the Main World, like the Dragon Race and Devils, coincidentally chose to seclude themselves.

While devil armies occasionally plot to invade the Main World, it seems they aren’t really that committed to it.

On a conventional planet, this scenario is hard to comprehend, but if the Main World is viewed as a refuge... it becomes a completely different story.

Moreover, unlike humans, dragons and devils live much longer lives. They must know some ancient secrets regarding the Main World. Is it due to this knowledge that they haven’t acted against the Main World?

What are they waiting for?
