Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 814: Chapter 813 Testimony Must Also Follow Basic Law... (Part 1)

As the saying goes, good news doesn’t travel far, but bad news spreads like wildfire.

It didn’t take long for the matters of the Kingdom of Flame to spread across the land, both domestically and internationally. Naturally, the people of the Magitech Nation and the Kingdom of the Holy Church were mourning the soldiers of the Kingdom of Flame who sacrificed their lives for order... What a load of crap!

Fifty thousand soldiers went to an uncharted land and got wiped out? The soldiers of the Kingdom of Flame must be elementary school kids, hahaha!! We always knew you kneeled like dogs for the Land of Wealth for money, but at least you were Tibetan mastiffs, and now you’ve become poodles, hahaha?

To have such an outcome from attacking uncharted land, are you trying to make us laugh to death so we can pass on our inheritance to you?

If it were just a regular expedition, maybe there wouldn’t be such a big public reaction, but during the previous Golden Bay incident, the confrontation between both sides became very apparent, so much so that the public atmosphere wasn’t very harmonious. Not to mention, after that, the Sanctuary successfully reclaimed the Northlands, while the Kingdom of Flame suffered a total defeat by comparison.

So, everything’s about comparison, isn’t it!

Although on the surface, the Kingdom of the Holy Church might not say anything about this, they are definitely gloating over the severe losses of the Kingdom of Flame from top to bottom.

However, whether they gloat or remain indifferent, at the very least, the people of the Kingdom of the Holy Church don’t think the troubles happening in the Kingdom of Flame have anything to do with them.

And because of this, when the Sanctuary received the aid report from the Kingdom of Flame, the previously joyful people were suddenly dumbfounded.

What’s the situation? The Kingdom of Flame is actually asking us for help?

The Kingdom of Flame admitted defeat?

This isn’t scientific, nor is it magical?

”What do you think those guys are thinking?”

Standing on the flight deck, gazing at the clouds before him, Bishop Carl murmured thoughtfully. Hearing his words, the dwarf bishop standing beside him stroked his big beard.

”Who knows? We all thought the Kingdom of Flame would regroup and rally their forces to make a comeback, but unexpectedly, they asked the Sanctuary for help...”

As the dwarf bishop mentioned, although people were gloating over the Kingdom of Flame’s predicament, everyone essentially believed that the Kingdom of Flame was caught off guard, underestimating their opponent’s strength, and hence suffered a crushing defeat. Therefore, it was generally believed that the Kingdom of Flame would regroup and send their military to completely wipe out the enemies.

Yet now... they’ve chosen to seek aid from the Kingdom of the Holy Church? What’s this about?

”There must be something fishy going on.”

At this point, another elf wearing a bishop’s robe had set down the fruit in his hand and spoke in a low voice.

”That’s why the Sanctuary sent us, the Eye of Order to observe the situation.”

As the elf bishop spoke, he glanced at the elderly man with white hair and beard sitting beside him. Sensing the elf bishop’s gaze, the elder smiled and nodded.

”Rest assured, although I am human, I have sworn to dedicate everything to order. I will not betray my faith just because my people are suffering.”

”Hmph, regardless, those brats from the Kingdom of Flame must be up to no good. We need to keep our eyes peeled!”

In the cabin, a low and muffled voice echoed; it came from a burly orc who stood over two meters tall. He wasn’t wearing the usual bishop’s robe, but a complete set of white leather armor. If not for the spiked hammer in his hand and the white bishop’s cap on his head, no one would associate him with the clerical profession.

”Anyway, since we’re here, we must figure out what’s going on.”

Bishop Carl coughed, pulling the topic back on track.

”Fifty thousand troops, wiped out in a single strike; honestly, I still can’t believe it’s true. That’s fifty thousand troops, and even without Paladins and Priests, their numbers surely included Legendary Powerhouses and elite forces. It’s inconceivable for such a force to be nearly wiped out. Even if the Kingdom of Flame didn’t deploy their Magitech Fleet, it shouldn’t have resulted in such devastation.”

As he said this, Bishop Carl’s expression grew serious. They’ve faced demon beast hordes before in the Northlands, relying on the fortress’s natural hazards to stand against the tides of demon beasts for a considerable time. If not for Fang Zheng’s fleet coming to assist, the entire fortress might have fallen.

But even so, they managed to hold off the demon beasts for quite a while; to be utterly wiped out in a single retaliatory strike seems absurd.

Initially, when this intel reached the Sanctuary, many thought it was exaggerated, just a way to describe how weak and incompetent the soldiers of the Kingdom of Flame were. After all, it was fifty thousand soldiers; losing the battle could be understood, but being entirely annihilated is another matter.

What sort of demon beast could achieve that?

In any case, they would only find out after they reached the Kingdom of Flame and investigated in person.

Meanwhile, outside the airfield in the Kingdom of Flame, a few individuals stood with grim expressions waiting. They were members responsible for receiving envoys from the Kingdom of the Holy Church in the Kingdom of Flame.

The Kingdom of Flame doesn’t adhere to the Sanctuary Doctrine. It is explicitly stated in law that no one is allowed to propagate the doctrines of the Sanctuary in any location within the Kingdom of Flame. Violators will be arrested or even imprisoned, and because of this, the Kingdom of Flame has no churches of the Sanctuary.

Thus, the reception of foreign affairs for the Sanctuary has always been handled by the department of diplomacy.

Therefore, this reception for the Sanctuary seemed quite meager, with only a few people at the airfield—just for appearances.

No matter how much both sides disagree, a bit of face must be given.

Of course, the extent of courtesy is another matter entirely.

”I still don’t understand why the council would let the Sanctuary handle this matter.”

A young man glared at the sky in dissatisfaction, while voicing his complaint.

”This is obviously an internal matter of the Kingdom of Flame, but we let the Sanctuary intervene? Isn’t that akin to bowing to them?”

”Alright, stop talking nonsense. The council naturally has its considerations; we just need to do our job properly.”

In front of him, an older diplomat spoke with his eyes closed, appearing as if his soul were wandering outside of his body.

”Besides, what exactly is this Eye of Order? I see there are five of them, and four aren’t human?”

”It’s an organization from the Sanctuary.”

The veteran diplomat glanced at his subordinate and decided to educate him.

”The Eye of Order is specialized in identifying order and chaos, determining which factions are aligned with order and which with chaos. They make reports and inform the Sanctuary, which then confirms the details and draws conclusions. Since we’ve failed in our campaign against the demon beasts, they are here to assess and verify our stances. If it’s confirmed that the Kingdom of Flame is indeed fighting to protect order and eliminate chaos, the Sanctuary will lend us assistance.”

”Does that really require evaluation?”

The young man snorted upon hearing this.

”Demon beasts are definitely evil and part of the Chaos Faction. They brutally killed so many of our soldiers; isn’t that chaos? Besides, sir, look at this list. Apart from one human, the rest are dwarves, elves, even orcs and vampires. What a mess! I bet they want to see us falter sooner rather than later!!”

Unlike the Kingdom of the Holy Church, the Kingdom of Flame was mainly populated by humans as it mostly consisted of exiled criminals; other races were scarce, except for some savage tribes in the border wilderness. Because of this, the Kingdom of Flame has always looked down on non-humans... But of course, dragons are a different story altogether.

”Alright.”

The senior diplomat opened his eyes and glanced at him.

”No matter what, you’re in the department of foreign affairs, so you need to be careful with your words. Look, they’re here...”

Just then, before them, a flying ship emerged from the clouds and began its slow descent.
