Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 806: Chapter 805 This is the Real Swarm!

The soldiers of the Kingdom of Flame were utterly shocked by this Zerg ambush.

They had fought against the Zerg before, but Fang Zheng had never exposed the Zerg’s ability to lurk in front of them. Moreover, these soldiers from the Kingdom of Flame were completely unaware of the connection between the Zerg and the fungal carpet.

Marching on the fungal carpet like this... it’s asking for trouble.

”Defensive formation! Defensive formation!!”

Faced with the swarm suddenly emerging from the ground, the soldiers of the Kingdom of Flame were completely panicked. They had never experienced thousands of enemies suddenly appearing around them, and even if they wanted to regroup, they couldn’t stand their ground against the swarm’s assault. For the moment, the entire army of the Kingdom of Flame was surrounded by the swarm, with only each soldier fighting independently, trying to carve a bloody path through the swarm to regroup.

”Haa!!”

An elite warrior swung his blade, sword qi whistled out, slicing the Jumping Bug before him in half. He retreated two steps, gripped the handle of his two-handed giant sword tightly, and spun towards the Jumping Bug ahead. The sword, enveloped in sword qi, effortlessly tore through the Jumping Bug’s armor, killing it.

Meanwhile, on the other side, another Jumping Bug quickly followed, pouncing towards the elite warrior. But before it could hit its target, an azure magic barrier suddenly expanded, causing the Jumping Bug to hit the barrier and rebound to the side.

”Thanks!”

Looking at the Mage behind him, the elite warrior let out a breath of relief. In the Kingdom of Flame, not many people believed in the Goddess of Order, so unlike the Kingdom of the Holy Church, they didn’t have the Paladin sequence in their army. Instead, they predominantly had Wild Hunt Sorcerers and Mages.

The reality proved these Mages weren’t useless; they were reliable at crucial moments.

”Don’t be careless, these bugs are somewhat different from before... What’s that!?”

Staring at the swarm, the Mage suddenly shouted, and the elite warrior turned his head to see among the grotesque bugs, one entirely green, curled into a ball, transforming into an Invincible Fire Wheel, rapidly charging towards them!

”This is...”

But before the elite warrior could react, the bug had already rolled out, hitting the Mage’s barrier head-on. Then the elite warrior heard a deafening ”Boom” nearby, as the magic barrier shattered with a resonating explosion, and the blast wave along with green poisonous liquid spread out, toppling nearby human soldiers.

”Uwah!”

The elite warrior hadn’t expected the green creature’s explosion to be so potent, and caught off guard, he was thrown to the ground by the incoming blast. Before he could get up, surrounding Jumping Bugs swarmed over him, turning him into a mess of flesh.

Almost in an instant, the soldiers of the Kingdom of Flame suffered heavy losses. After all, these Jumping Bugs had been pumped with three attack and three defense by Fang Zheng, and even the Ironblood’s plasma cannon couldn’t pierce their shell, let alone the standard weapons that regular soldiers used. Most soldiers found that even swinging their blades and chopping down against the Jumping Bug couldn’t break their defenses. Given such circumstances, it’s evident how dire the military losses for the Kingdom of Flame were.

However, the cream of the crop remained incredibly formidable after those incapable had been eliminated. The elite soldiers, with Mages accompanying them, began to resist strongly. Many of these Mages were airborne, casting their proud spells at the swarm — due to their frequent use of triggered protection magic, they had the most survivors from the swarm’s first wave of attacks.

Of course, those with bad luck who were blasted by the Infested Explosive Bug were a different story.

Soon, the battle began to change, as the surviving elites backed against each other, creating a solid defense line with their flesh and blood. Meanwhile, above them, the Mages cast Fireballs, Blizzards, Lightning, and various other spells, knocking down wave after wave of the swarm.

Though the swarm wasn’t afraid of Psychic Magic, they were less resistant to Necromancy Spells and Elemental Spells. Apart from Roaches, which could survive Fireball Technique explosions, most Jumping Bugs and Hydralisks were either frozen into ice sculptures, roasted into charcoal, or transformed into pitch-black remains by lightning.

However, they hadn’t given up; the swarm did not fear. As long as the Overlord issued orders, they would charge forward unrelenting. Even if before them was a wall of blades, clouds of deadly poison, or a bottomless marsh, it was all the same to them.

”Keep defending! Stay vigilant on all sides!!”

A Knight slashed down a Jumping Bug emerging from the side, then scanned the surroundings before suddenly widening his eyes. He leaped up as a series of ground spikes shot out from the soil beneath him, narrowly missing his boots.

The Knight roared angrily, gripping his longsword with both hands. He struck forcefully in the direction the spikes were shot, causing the ground to quake, and a Lurker was directly shaken up from the ground by the berserk power. It flailed its limbs, attempting to resist, but the following arrows transformed into a silver-white light beam, effortlessly penetrating its tough shell, leaving a fist-sized bloody hole in the Lurker’s body, making it a corpse.

”Keep retreating, we must rendezvous with the Master!!”

Glancing at the surrounding flags fluttering, the elites hurriedly moved their feet, trying to group together. They felt as if they were swept, enveloped by a wave named insect tide, and even attempting to move was extremely difficult.

Behind the Jumping Bugs, the Destroyers frantically sprayed corrosive bile at distant enemies. This bile, filled with stench and strong corrosiveness, scattered like a goddess releasing flowers in the sky. If touched, even the sturdiest armor would become as fragile as cookie soaked in water.

The entire battlefield had now become a piece of hell, swarm and humans left with nothing but slaughter, death was everywhere, with the corpses of the swarm and humans mixed together, indistinguishable from each other.

”Hurry, hurry, hurry!!”

With the cooperation of the mages overhead, the remnants of the Kingdom of Flame rapidly began to gather. They had long lost the arrogance from when they first arrived and only hoped to carve a bloody path out of the countless swarm surrounding them to leave this place.

The front line troops had been completely annihilated, leaving only the middle and rear remnants struggling to hold on. If not for the mages, the situation would have been even more dire.

And at this moment, in front of a carriage at the back, a red-haired armored man glared with fiery eyes at the scene.

”These damn bastards!!”

”Master, please calm down, calm down!!”

Seeing the expression of the red-haired man, a nearby attendant hurriedly advised.

”We should leave here, it’s very dangerous!!”

”How could I leave!?”

The red-haired man glared at his attendant, making him instinctively withdraw his hand in fear. At this moment, thousands of Jumping Bugs surrounded them from all directions, pouncing towards the red-haired man.

Looking at the Jumping Bugs before him, the red-haired man gripped the long sword in his hand tightly and swung it fiercely!

”Die!!”

Accompanied by the red-haired man’s roar, the Jumping Bugs charging at him began to burn internally the next moment, flames burst from their eyes, ears, mouths, and noses, turning all the swarm into masses of fire in the blink of an eye, fresh red flames boiling upon their bodies.

The red-haired man opened his mouth and took a deep breath.

With his actions, the flames burning on the swarm’s bodies were swiftly drawn towards him and disappeared into his mouth.

”Ugh, disgusting!”

The red-haired man spat and glared fiercely around him.

”These damned bugs, their souls are as disgusting as their appearances!!”

As he spoke, he looked towards his attendant, whose face immediately changed drastically upon noticing his gaze.

”Master, no, please don’t... ah ah ah ah!!”

However, before the attendant could finish his words, his entire body abruptly started to burn, quickly turning into a fireman, while the red-haired man opened his mouth again and absorbed the flames from his attendant’s body, then let out a satisfied belch.

”Indeed, human souls taste the best.”

He smacked his lips in satisfaction and then looked forward again, expression overshadowed.

”Those damned worthless fools, can’t even handle something like this, do I have to handle it myself?”

”Boom!!”

Before the red-haired man finished speaking, suddenly a loud noise erupted from the ground, and a tall creature burst from underground, mixed in with the swarm, rushing towards the remnants of the Kingdom of Flame not far away.

At the same time, with the whistling from the horizon, Flying Dragons emerged from between the clouds, spreading their wings and spewing flames toward the mages suspended in the air.

The battle of the swarm had officially begun!
