Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 832: Chapter 831: A Call for Help from the Chief Officer

Although Fang Zheng really wanted to bring over a group of Warships of Sea Mist for upgrades, after thinking it over, he decided to temporarily suppress his thoughts.

The reason is quite simple, because the Gravity Well on Anshune Star has not been completely lifted. If Fang Zheng were to summon a few more warships, they might end up like Iona, unable to escape. Iona still needs at least 12 more hours for repairs, and if a few more ships fall, it would be much more troublesome.

However, the issue of lifting the Gravity Well doesn’t need to worry Fang Zheng because he knows that, as the protagonist, the Chief Officer has taken on the task of heading to the control center to shut down the Gravity Well after joining forces with the Infinity. Fang Zheng calmly expressed that the protagonist would likely survive, and he’s keeping an eye on things. If any trouble arises, he would just teleport over and take him away.

What surprised Fang Zheng a bit was that those aliens from the Star Alliance were also colluding with the Forerunners, blocking the Chief Officer’s way. Initially, Fang Zheng didn’t understand what was happening. Later, Nymph explained it to him, and Fang Zheng realized the reason — in ancient times, the Forerunners activated the Halo to stop the flood invasion, killing most of the Milky Way’s life, including their own species.

However, this story somehow got twisted when it reached the Star Alliance. In their doctrine, it became that after activating the Halo, the Forerunners ascended and became gods... Thus, the Star Alliance embarked on the path of seeking the Great Journey, yearning to ascend and become gods like the Forerunners.

Of course, ascending is certain, becoming a god is uncertain.

However, in the religious beliefs of the Star Alliance, the Forerunners are considered a kind of deity. Therefore, it’s not entirely incomprehensible that they would prostrate in front of a surviving Forerunner.

This just goes to show that religious beliefs can indeed be harmful. Even a powerful force like the Star Alliance exploring the vast universe can’t escape it. Fang Zheng decided to enhance the materialistic education of the young members of the Heavenly Dao Palace after he returns to prevent such jokes... That would truly be no laughing matter.

In Fang Zheng’s view, compared to the Star Alliance’s mindless religion, the Order Sanctuary of the Main World seems more rational — they believe in Order, not the Goddess of Order. To most attendants of the Sanctuary, the Goddess of Order embodies Order itself, but if you say the Goddess led the way to Chaos, these clerics and bishops would be the first to object.

Unlike these Star Alliance members, who rush to serve a living Forerunner without even knowing their own surname, as if afraid they won’t reach Heaven in time.

Fang Zheng really wanted to hack into the Star Alliance network to ask what their reaction would be if they now believed in the fallen angel Lucifer.

Though thinking carefully, these aliens probably wouldn’t get the joke either.

Indeed, the Star Alliance’s attack was fierce, but the Chief Officer, as the protagonist, was a true combat hero. With the support of the Infinity’s huge Long-Haired Mammoth tank, he created chaos everywhere, advancing triumphantly.

After closely observing the Chief Officer’s combat for a while, Fang Zheng found out that being the protagonist of this world was indeed well justified.

Generally speaking, the term protagonist’s aura is mostly derogatory, describing opponents as overly stupid, terrible marksmen, shooting hundreds of bullets missing completely, even if the protagonist is standing still, they won’t even hit a hair.

But the Chief Officer as a protagonist is truly a combat hero, ferociously battling. Upon spotting the Star Alliance, he charges forward, braving the hail of bullets as if cover didn’t exist. Sniping from a distance, closing in with rifles, charging all the way up to directly strike Star Alliance warriors with his gunstock.

Pitiful were those gnolls, their faces flattened by the Chief Officer.

And not just that, facing the Star Alliance’s vehicles, the Chief Officer was utterly fierce. Fang Zheng personally witnessed a Star Alliance tank firing at the Chief Officer, who dodged two rounds of shelling, then punched through the tank’s armor directly, pulling out the driver for a thorough beating. Sometimes, if there wasn’t time, he stuffed two grenades inside, turned around, and ran. By the time the tank exploded, the Chief Officer was already rushing forward with his gun.

It turns out a real man never looks back at explosions.

Watching the Chief Officer’s trail of victories, Fang Zheng marveled. As a mage, this kind of ”ferocity” wasn’t his interest. If a thing could be settled with the Death Cloud Technique, Fang Zheng definitely wouldn’t charge forward to create trouble.

However, as a man, seeing such passionate, straightforward combat, he couldn’t help but feel exhilarated.

Bored, Fang Zheng calculated for a bit. On this path, the Chief Officer single-handedly took down thirty Star Alliance tanks, fifty Demon Princess ships, and hundreds of Star Alliance soldiers... This combat prowess is ACE among ACEs anywhere.

No wonder he could be the protagonist. He was naturally born for it.

Far superior to those who do nothing but act ”Yassassi,” who wet their pants sitting on the ground upon seeing a dead person, solely relying on luck to dodge attacks.

However, everyone has flaws. The Chief Officer’s biggest flaw is probably being an otaku. Despite being able to live off his skills, he insists on flirting with his humanoid AI... Oh dear, with so many girls around the world, what does he mean by choosing an AI?

Oh... He won’t ever be cheated on...

Finally, under the vigorous efforts of the Chief Officer, the Infinity blew up the Gravity Well with a missile, removing the restraints. Seeing this, Fang Zheng turned off the live stream. Since the Gravity Well had been resolved by the Chief Officer, he could summon the other Warships of Sea Mist here, and they could all joyfully start treasure hunting...

Unexpectedly, as Fang Zheng was about to activate the Dimensional Passage, the Chief Officer’s call suddenly came through his terminal.

”... Hello, I need your help...”

”... Chief Officer, what’s wrong again?”

Upon hearing the Chief Officer speak, Fang Zheng had to temporarily close the system and opened the communication line.

”Weren’t you leaving with the Infinity? What’s the issue now?”

”... There’s been a problem, I... And Cortana, hope to get your help.”

The Chief Officer’s tone was serious, clearly indicating he wasn’t just calling Fang Zheng for a chat.

”...”

Even though Fang Zheng was not intending to follow the protagonist to trouble the BOSS after deciding on his strategy, the protagonist approached him after all. Since the Chief Officer was the main target of this world task, he couldn’t be turned away, right?

”What exactly happened?”

”It’s like this...”

After Fang Zheng’s inquiry, the Chief Officer briefly explained their current situation. It turned out that earlier, when clearing the path for the Infinity, the Chief Officer encountered a Forerunner AI known as the ”Think Tank Leader.” It informed him that the liberated Forerunner named ”Missionary” deeply hated humanity and sought to exterminate them.

At present, the Missionary had been freed and was seeking a weapon called the ”Recombination Device.” This weapon would allow the Missionary to convert humans into codes to be completely annihilated. Then, he planned to head to Earth to permanently eradicate humanity.

After acquiring this intelligence, the Chief Officer immediately reported it to the captain of the Infinity, hoping to stop the Missionary from leaving this planet. However, his proposal was met with rejection from the Infinity captain. The reason was clear: he didn’t want to risk his warship.

What’s more troubling is that during the argument, Cortana went berserk and lost control, leading the captain to deem her a dangerous AI and attempted to discard her. Ultimately, it was the Chief Officer who retrieved Cortana and, with the vice-captain’s help, left the Infinity.

However, the crisis was far from over, and the Chief Officer was no fool. He understood that the Missionary was not alone; he was accompanied by a fleet of Star Alliance warships. Previously, the Chief Officer might have chosen to take a risky gamble, but not now... Now he thought of Fang Zheng.

”... Alright, I understand.”

After the Chief Officer finished explaining the situation, Fang Zheng had no further comments. The Chief Officer truly was a battle hero. He wasn’t entirely sure why the Missionary acted this way, but not that it mattered much. Yet, if it was indeed to annihilate humanity, as the Chief Officer claimed, Fang Zheng couldn’t turn a blind eye.

”I’ll give you coordinates, rendezvous with me there, and then we can go trouble that Missionary together.”
