Dimensional Codex System: I'm really not a cultist!

Chapter 829: Chapter 828: I Knew Things Wouldn’t Go So Smoothly

As Fang Zheng thought, this attack could banish the opponent to the other side of time’s destruction in the universe. As for whether the opponent could return or not, he wasn’t in the mood to bother.

However, things were not that simple.

Fang Zheng’s breath almost pierced through the entire base interior, yet that black sphere still floated steadily in the air. However, unlike before, a white, shield-like barrier appeared around the black sphere.

Damn, this thing again!

Seeing this thing, Fang Zheng swore inwardly. He had seen this before, in the Monster World, where he intended to use Time Exhale against that huge gorilla, but it had no effect. In the end, Fang Zheng had to lash out directly with a breath that knocked off a mountain and then summoned the mountain back to pin the gorilla down to settle it.

Fang Zheng still hadn’t figured out what exactly that thing was, but based on the result, it seemed to be like a world’s protective device, sealing or defending against power that exceeded the world’s limits to a certain degree.

Looks like I still have to do it myself!

Given the precedent of failure, Fang Zheng wasn’t particularly shocked. He stretched out his claws and slapped fiercely at the black sphere. In front of Fang Zheng, the huge black sphere was just slightly smaller than a basketball, and that so-called world barrier didn’t seem immune to physical attacks. Under Fang Zheng’s strike, it rushed downward and was then hoisted up by the Lock of Heaven.

Fang Zheng slapped down again, and the black sphere jumped up once more.

Single-handed dribbling, a brilliant pass under the basket, a beautiful fake move, I’m so cool......

Fang Zheng bounced the black sphere back and forth, almost advancing past opponents and going for a layup, yet the black sphere showed no sign of damage. It merely swung side to side, struggling to escape the Lock of Heaven’s constraints. Although Fang Zheng wasn’t sure what the so-called Forerunner was, it was clear that it didn’t possess Divinity, so the Lock of Heaven, while able to confine it, wouldn’t last very long.

If Time Dragon’s breath doesn’t work, then let’s try some grilling!

With this thought, Fang Zheng decided to go all out.

I want to see how well you Forerunners can withstand fire!

With this thought, Fang Zheng aimed at the black sphere in front of him and opened his mouth.

Then he took a deep breath.

”—————!!”

Scorching Primordial Fire instantly spewed out from Fang Zheng’s mouth, engulfing the black sphere completely. This time, the black sphere didn’t remain as calm as before. Even the world barrier covering the black sphere seemed unable to withstand the temperature of the flames, flickering as if it couldn’t cope, while the black sphere itself was burned with cracks, flickers of faint firelight visible on it......

[......Buzz!!!]

Just as Fang Zheng was pondering whether to roast the opponent to a delicious medium-well or medium-rare, a sharp alarm suddenly rang in his ear, and a line of warning information immediately appeared before Fang Zheng’s eyes.

[Warning! Severe warning! World Source damage detected! Please cease attacking the World Source immediately! Otherwise, the user will be forcibly ejected from this world in ten seconds]

»Oh crap!!

Seeing this warning, Fang Zheng was taken aback and hastily withdrew the Primordial Fire. He still remembered that this wasn’t a trial mission in the Bio-World but an aid mission; he was here to save people, not to play with firewood. Besides, Fang Zheng was eyeing the Forerunner’s technology with interest; being kicked out by force would be a huge loss!

”Whoosh!!”

As Fang Zheng retracted the Primordial Fire, the Lock of Heaven quickly shortened in response, and the black sphere tried to make a run for it. Naturally, Fang Zheng couldn’t let it escape; he couldn’t incinerate it with the Primordial Fire, but that didn’t mean he had no other methods!

”Stand still for me!”

Fang Zheng shouted angrily, and the Time Dragon’s ability activated again, freezing time completely around the black sphere. Maintaining the time lock with one side, Fang Zheng glanced at Iona.

”Iona, initiate combat mode! Blow this thing to pieces!”

”Understood, Master, Subspace is fully activated!”

Upon receiving Fang Zheng’s order, Iona hurriedly extended her hand, and waves appeared in the space behind her. Eight heavy missile launchers emerged above Iona, shifted direction, and aimed at the black sphere.

”Target locked, Thor missiles ready to launch!”

”Boom boom boom boom boom!!!”

Amidst the smoke and explosion, dozens of missiles swiftly shot toward the black sphere. Appropriately, Fang Zheng withdrew the time lock, quickly spread out his wings, and shielded Iona and the Little Fire Dragon.

The black sphere wasn’t an easy target. The moment Fang Zheng released the time lock, it dashed through the big hole Fang Zheng had blasted and fled. Iona’s missiles chased after it, and several seconds later, Fang Zheng and the others heard thunderous explosions and roaring, echoing like fireworks on National Day.

Then Fang Zheng saw the entire ceiling start to crack.

And then... it collapsed.

Fortunately, Fang Zheng reacted quickly, blocking the debris wave; otherwise, the Chief Officer might not have died fighting the black sphere but rather got crushed to death by the wreckage.

”Whew......”

Fang Zheng protruded his head from the rubble and glanced around, seeing utter chaos as if it had been bombed by a nuclear weapon. However, the black sphere seemed to have a big life force. Fang Zheng didn’t see any trace of the black sphere, but in retrospect, it made sense; the opponent was a Forerunner, and while Iona’s missiles could instantly kill the Star Alliance, they were probably a bit lacking against Forerunner technology.

However, judging by the debris all over the ground, the Forerunner must not be in good shape. Even if it didn’t die, it was probably half-crippled.

Looking at its current state, it’s unlikely it could leave this planet anytime soon. Fang Zheng planned to wait until Iona repaired the warship so he could deal with it again.

With this thought, Fang Zheng stretched his hand, placed Iona, the Little Fire Dragon, and the Chief Officer to the side, then shook his body and transformed back into human form.

At this moment, the Chief Officer also got up, vigilantly watching him.

”Who are you, anyway?”

”I told you, just a passerby.”

Facing the Chief Officer’s inquiry, Fang Zheng spread out his hands.

”Anyway, that’s what I’m saying. Consider it true......”

”......”

Looking at Fang Zheng’s ”believe it or not, I believe it” indifferent attitude, the Chief Officer was briefly speechless, while Cortana asked.

”Are you... Forerunners?”

”Do I look like that black sphere to you?”

Fang Zheng rolled his eyes irritably. While he was interested in Forerunner technology, he had no interest in the Forerunners themselves.

”Then who are you?”

Cortana’s voice became serious.

”You are not members of the UNSC, nor are you ordinary civilians, and you can even transform between two species... what exactly is your origin?”

”You don’t need to know; it’s meaningless to you.”

Fang Zheng didn’t care about the warning in Cortana’s voice. If push came to shove, he’d just knock the Chief Officer out, freeze him, and dump him on a human colony to call it a day. Fang Zheng was still waiting for Nymph to sort out the Shield World’s system, so he didn’t want to waste time here.

Just as the atmosphere became awkward, a rescue signal suddenly sounded.

”Help! Help! Help! This is the UNSC Infinity captain calling; the ship has been taken over by an unknown source, lost all power, and is crashing towards an unknown Forerunner planet!”

With the call, Fang Zheng saw a huge warship emerge from the clouds, floating over their heads, and crashed toward the other side of the mountain......
