Super Gene Hunting Ground

Chapter 84: Chapter 84 Thoughts on Establishing a Base

Around 3 PM, the people who went out to hunt mutated creatures all returned, everyone was elated, their faces beaming with smiles.

After forming a mixed battle group today, firstly the number of people increased, and secondly, the overall combat power improved significantly, coupled with everyone’s unity, they were able to defeat mutated creatures that couldn’t be hunted in the past.

One team killed a five-hundred-pound porcupine, obtaining 20 genetic fragments at once, and acquired a porcupine steel fork, which added +4 to strength, currently the weapon with the highest genetic attribute bonus among everyone’s equipment.

Although five or six people got slightly injured, everyone still thought it was worthwhile, also boosting everyone’s confidence in dueling with mutated creatures.

These teams also combined forces to sweep a mountain, harvesting over five hundred genetic fragments and bringing back thousands of pounds of mutated creatures.

This surprised and delighted Yang Xiao, Xiao Zhe, Huang Wen, Zhao Gang, and others.

The hundreds of students responsible for logistics turned the ruins of several school cafeterias upside down, finding at least two thousand iron basin meal sets, countless steel spoons and iron forks.

More fortunately, they found an underground storage room in a cafeteria, containing a large amount of salt, chili peppers, soy sauce, light soy sauce, chicken essence, vinegar, and other condiments, a discovery that sent everyone into ecstasy.

The logistics team collected the pots, bowls, and other kitchenware that everyone used daily, and re-planned a specialized kitchen area on the playground, setting up ten large iron pots in a row, all stewing mutated fish caught from the pond today.

With enough salt, chili peppers, soy sauce, pepper, and other seasonings, today’s fish was exceptionally delicious.

In addition, ten bonfires were lit on the playground, with two giant mutated birds roasting by each, already charred golden brown, sprinkled with salt, pepper, and chili powder, the aroma was pervasive.

Today was a big day, a day of celebration, the first time since the great catastrophe that the survivors of Kongming Academy could feast and celebrate, from now on no one would have to worry about food.

Yang Xiao specifically called over Gu Bo from the Genetic Store, who, drooling, unashamedly said:

”I’ve been tortured by you people for half a day, the aroma of stewed fish and roasted meat around my nose is just too much to bear, haha.”

Everyone was holding iron basins, eating fish and drinking fish soup with big gulps, cutting fragrant roast meat directly from the bonfire with their weapons, enjoying themselves immensely.

”What a pity, there’s no wine, if only we had a few bottles of wine it would be perfect.”

Zhao Gang, biting into a piece of roast meat, said with some regret.

Xiao Zhe paused for a moment, leaned close to Yang Xiao’s ear, and whispered:

”Yang Xiao, we still have two boxes of baijiu there, brought back from a supermarket outside the academy at the time, and nobody has drunk it, it’s in a tent, do you want to take it out to drink a bit?”

”A little is fine, to liven up the atmosphere, but everyone shouldn’t get drunk, it’s the end of the world now, even though the Genetic Store protects us at night, we still have to guard against others, for example, people from Xianan University.”

”Of course, boss, you rest assured, the people on night duty and patrols have all been arranged, from now on, our school will have people standing guard twenty-four hours, everyone can sleep peacefully, no more sleeping with eyes open like before.”

Zhao Gang turned to Xiao Zhe and said:

”You kid is hiding baijiu, hurry up and take it out.”

Xiao Zhe and Zhao Gang together brought over two boxes of baijiu, Yang Xiao took a look and it was Jian Nan Chun.

Yang Xiao had a modest drinking capacity, only drank a little.

Zhao Gang and others didn’t drink much either, mainly to create a lively atmosphere, everyone clinked glasses casually.

Taking advantage of everyone being together, Yang Xiao discussed the future work arrangements while eating.

”The outside world is shrouded in thick fog, full of mutated creatures, and these creatures are constantly evolving, right now we can’t leave here alone, and there’s nowhere else to go, so for the foreseeable future, Kongming Academy will be our main survival base, everyone needs to put some thought into the construction.”

”The boss is right, now that everyone has unified their thoughts and prepared for long-term battle, we need to build Kongming Academy into our base.”

”We need to build housing, living in temporary tents isn’t a long-term solution, recently the weather has been good with no rain, but winter is approaching, once winter comes, the weather will become cold and rainy, making the ground damp.”

”Yes, we need to build houses, plus, after winter arrives, we need to store food for the winter and have cold protection, which requires clothes.”

”Kongming Academy originally had over ten thousand teachers and students, now only a thousand or so of us are left, clothing can be found in the ruins, it shouldn’t be a problem.”

”The school’s dormitories and teachers’ accommodations have all collapsed, but the academy’s administrative and teaching buildings haven’t collapsed, however, those places are too far from the Genetic Store to be protected by its orange glow, if mutated creatures were to invade, it would still be very dangerous.”

”Building dormitories isn’t a simple matter, we don’t have building materials or specialized tools, it’s fundamentally impossible, and time doesn’t allow it.”

...

Everyone finally unified a few opinions, store food, collect clothes from the ruins, and convert the academy’s administrative or teaching buildings into accommodation.

Gu Bo ate contently and happily today, patted his full stomach and said to Yang Xiao:

”Yang Xiao, thanks for the delicious food, I’ll go now, you all carry on.”

Yang Xiao tore off a giant bird leg and handed it to Gu Bo:

”Let your mates try it, and those two iron tower-like guards at your door, by the way, why haven’t I seen those two guards resting or eating? Are they really iron men?”

Gu Bo smiled, said a thank you, and didn’t explain further.

”Old man, I want to ask you something.”

”Go ahead, since the old man ate so much of your delicious food, I’ll definitely tell you everything.”

”The orange glow on the roof of your Genetic Store covers too small an area now, we want to move into the academy’s administrative building, which is a thousand meters away, is there any way?”

Gu Bo thought for a moment and said:

”There are two ways, first, you can hunt more mutated creatures and sell them to me, the more transactions, the farther the glow on the roof can reach.”

”With our current transaction volume, how long will it take to reach a thousand meters away?”

Gu Bo thought for a moment, extending one finger:

”About a year.”

”That’s no good, that’s too long, it’s autumn now, the temperature is relatively high, and it’s not raining much, winter will come soon, the weather will be damp and cold, living in these temporary tents will be very uncomfortable, can’t you just move the Genetic Store?”

”Haha, that’s precisely the second way I was about to mention, moving the Genetic Store, these stores are built on open spaces, and once established, they are very difficult to move, if you insist on moving, I can move it at most a thousand meters for you, exceeding that distance is not possible.”

”Great, then please move the Genetic Store to in front of the administrative building, there’s a small square right there.”

Yang Xiao said excitedly, while Xiao Zhe, Zhao Gang, Huang Wen, Qin Yu, Deng Xiao, and others all looked at Gu Bo with joy.

Gu Bo chuckled and said:

”It’s not as easy as you say, moving the store consumes tremendous energy, which will cost Crystal Coins.”

”Crystal Coins? Tell me how many you need, I’ll find a way.”

Gu Bo smiled silently and held up one finger.

”A thousand Crystal Coins?”

Gu Bo shook his head.

”Ten thousand Crystal Coins?”

Gu Bo shook his head.

Yang Xiao’s heart sank,

”Damn, you want a hundred thousand Crystal Coins?”

Gu Bo nodded.

”You’re ruthless, taking so many Crystal Coins, I could have cultivated to immortality, transcended and ascended...”

Gu Bo chuckled:

”Whether or not to move is up to you, but not a single Crystal Coin less than a hundred thousand. Okay, thanks for the delicious food, I’m off now.”

After Gu Bo finished speaking, he left with the roast bird leg Yang Xiao had given him.

Yang Xiao stared at the old man’s back, wishing he could snatch that bird leg meat back, damn, he’s so cruel.
