Super Gene Hunting Ground

Chapter 62: Chapter 62 Differences in Genetic Fragments

Yang Xiao returned to the camp and asked Huang Wen to tally the results of the latest expedition up the mountain.

”Boss, we have about 148 various Genetic Fragments.”

”Hmm, among them are Genetic Fragments from mutated mosquitoes, various insects, and different types of fish. There’s an issue I’m certain Gu Bo didn’t tell us, which is that the Power Potion synthesized from mosquito Genetic Fragments has different effects compared to the one synthesized from sparrow Genetic Fragments. However, Gu Bo charges the same price of 1 Crystal Coin per fragment, and the Genetic Potion we purchase is likely just a modified version, different from one directly synthesized from ten sparrow Genetic Fragments.”

When Yang Xiao said this, everyone found it reasonable.

”Boss, what should we do then?”

”With the limited Genetic Fragments we have now, we can’t synthesize Genetic Potions if distributed individually. Let’s do this: everyone gets 3 Genetic Fragments first, and can buy a basic weapon from the Genetic Store. We’ll use the remaining 50 or so Genetic Fragments to buy 5 Small Blood Pills. I saw Xu Hua use a Small Blood Pill today, and it was quite effective; we should prepare some for self-defense too.”

Huang Wen distributed the Genetic Fragments and then handed the remaining fifty-odd to Yang Xiao.

For many of the girls, it was their first time holding Genetic Fragments, and they were excited, rushing to Gu Bo’s Genetic Store to purchase weapons.

Yang Xiao instructed Huang Wen and the others to start a fire to grill fish, and then he went into a small tent to rest.

Qin Yu and Deng Xiao, newly joined to the team, busily helped Huang Wen with errands, building a fire, grilling fish, and organizing the camp.

As most people on the field completed their Genetic Mutations, everyone’s combat power increased, and their activity range gradually expanded. The ruins of the campus had been patrolled several times, and the thick fog covering the campus was dispersed.

Some teams even ventured beyond the campus, searching for food, hunting mutated creatures, and acquiring Genetic Fragments in nearby farms, fields, and forests.

According to Gu Bo, the more Genetic Fragments traded with the Genetic Store, the further the orange protective light on the Genetic Store’s building extended.

Now, the orange protective light had extended about twenty meters forward, forming a protective circle with a 70-meter radius centered on the Genetic Store.

Yang Xiao was awakened two hours later by the aroma of grilled fish, feeling his stomach growl, so he walked out of the tent.

”Boss, you’re up. The fish is ready,” Huang Wen said.

Many girls grilled fish while excitedly showing off their newly bought weapons. For them, it was their first time owning Genetic Store’s special weapons, and they were delighted.

Huang Wen handed Yang Xiao a large piece of grilled fish covered in chili paste. Yang Xiao accepted it without hesitation, devouring it ravenously.

”Don’t rush; I know you can eat, so I grilled plenty more on purpose. These hundreds of kilos of fish are enough to last us several days,” Huang Wen said, handing Yang Xiao a bottle of water.

Feifei commented from the side, ”It’s a pity about the other fish in the pond. Just those mutated tilapias must weigh thousands of kilograms. If we brought them back, we wouldn’t worry about food all autumn, Boss. Can’t we go back up the mountain to catch those fish?”

”I’m afraid of dying. If you’re not, you go.”

”Then I won’t go either. I’ll go wherever the boss goes and follow all his instructions,” Feifei said with a laugh.

Dai Yun remarked from the side, ”Everyone says it’s the end times, and food is scarce. If we sell those fish from the pond, would it be feasible?”

Yang Xiao’s heart skipped at Dai Yun’s words, and he glanced at Dai Yun.

It’s the end of the world; everything has collapsed and needs to be rebuilt. Except for the Genetic Store, there’s no service industry or commerce, and everyone’s struggling to survive.

Many people manage to kill some mutated creatures with minor attack power, obtaining a few Genetic Fragments. However, accumulating ten Genetic Fragments isn’t easy. Collecting scattered Genetic Fragments through food might be a great way to accumulate resources.

In the beginning stages of the apocalypse, whoever develops faster gains an advantage in later competition, winning at the starting line!

Having eaten a few more pieces of grilled fish, Yang Xiao stood up and headed to the Genetic Store.

There were quite a few people in the Genetic Store, with four tables in the hall. Yang Xiao found a random seat and sat down.

Aside from the two towering, intimidating samurai outside the door, Gu Bo had somehow found a young assistant to help him manage daily transactions behind the counter.

After ten minutes, the crowd inside the Genetic Store lessened. Gu Bo, noticing Yang Xiao sitting in the corner of the hall, approached and smiled, ”Oh, Yang Xiao, haven’t seen you for a few days; have you struck it rich?”

”We only caught some small fish and shrimp at the foot of the mountain. How can we get rich with that? It’s nothing compared to your Genetic Store. Your business seems pretty good.”

”Heh, nearly everyone has completed their Genetic Mutations, gaining initial survival skills, so the number of mutated creatures being hunted is increasing, keeping my business quite busy.”

”Old man, could I ask you a question?”

”Go ahead.”

”You’re buying all Genetic Fragments at 1 Crystal Coin each, and then we can buy a Genetic Potion for 12 Crystal Coins. My question is, does the effect of a Genetic Potion differ depending on whether it’s synthesized from tilapia Genetic Fragments or wasp Genetic Fragments? And where do the Genetic Potions you sell us come from?”

Listening to Yang Xiao’s question, Gu Bo looked at him with a sly grin and said, ”Indeed, you’re thoughtful. To be honest, Genetic Potions synthesized from different mutated creatures have different effects, sometimes significantly so. Therefore, if you can gather 10 fragments of the same type and give them to me for synthesis, the result will be better. As for where the Genetic Potions I sell come from, that’s a secret I can’t tell you, haha!”

Yang Xiao didn’t press further, chatted for a bit, then bought 3 Small Blood Pills and 2 Detoxification Pills before leaving the store.

As Yang Xiao left the Genetic Store, he glanced several times at the two samurai, who remained as cold as ever, emanating an intimidating killing aura, deterring any challenge.

”The sudden catastrophe on Earth and the abrupt mutation of Earth’s creatures, could they be related to these people? Where do Gu Bo and his Genetic Store come from? What are their intentions?”

When Yang Xiao returned to the camp, he saw a group of people gathered on the distant field, making a loud commotion.

”Huang Wen, what’s going on over there?”

”I just found out: a team left campus, headed to the nearby Nine-tails City along the old streets, and ended up in a conflict over food with others, resulting in several deaths.”
