Super Gene Hunting Ground

Chapter 52: Chapter 52 Catching Fish

”Shh, don’t move.”

Yang Xiao whispered.

Feifei, Dai Yun, and Chen Lu had long since run to the side, lying on the ground, not daring to make a sound.

Yang Xiao waited for a moment, no longer hearing the sound of fish attacks from the pool, only then did he roll off Huang Wen onto the ground beside her.

Yang Xiao knew that these mutated creatures held the initiative in the dark and could even directly see the shadows of their movements in the dark, so they could only crawl slowly along the ground, not daring to stand up.

During the crawl back to the campsite, Yang Xiao reached out and felt a few bone spikes that had been shot over. These bone spikes had penetrated several centimeters into the hard cement floor, and if someone were hit, it would almost pierce through their body.

Finally, they crawled back to camp.

Because of the sound of flowing water outside, the sound of mutated tilapia firing bone spikes had not alarmed everyone. The girls around the campfire saw Yang Xiao crawling back from the ground, were startled, and quickly ran over.

”Boss, what’s up?”

Yang Xiao stood up, patted the dust off his body, and smiled, saying:

”Nothing.”

Behind him, Huang Wen, Feifei, and Chen Lu also crawled in, leaving the girls inside puzzled, not knowing what had happened.

Yang Xiao walked to the campfire, added some logs, the fire crackled and burned.

With the help of the firelight, Yang Xiao looked at the two bone spikes in his hand, each about 30 centimeters long, hard and sharp.

”Don’t go near the edge of the pool tonight. These mutated fish will shoot bone spikes, and they’re very deadly, um, it’s past midnight, right? You guys go to sleep and wake up Chen Fei and the others.”

Many of the girls were already sleepy. Hearing Yang Xiao’s words, they immediately went to the tent to wake up Chen Fei and the others, who opened their eyes and groggily got up.

Huang Wen, Chen Lu, and Feifei, who had been startled earlier, were still highly tense, not sleepy for the time being, and sat by the campfire.

Yang Xiao glanced at Huang Wen and asked:

”Are you injured?”

”No!”

Chen Fei, just waking up, glanced at Huang Wen:

”What happened?”

”Nothing, I’m going to sleep, I’m sleepy.”

Huang Wen said, gave Yang Xiao a glance, stood up, and headed into the tent.

Chen Lu, Dai Yun, and Feifei also went to sleep.

The rest of the night went smoothly. Besides the occasional growl of beasts in the surrounding forest, which was unsettling, nothing major happened.

In the second half of the night, Yang Xiao and Chen Fei’s group broke the fourth water barrier, and by around 5 am, as the sky turned a foggy gray, the water in the pool had dropped about four meters. The water had receded ten meters from the shore, revealing a long mudflat.

The large fish could only retreat to a deep water hole in the middle of the pool where the water was constantly stirred, making noises.

Two massive fish, each about three meters long, failed to retreat in time and were left in a shallow water pit, exposing half of their backs and frantically thrashing the silt, showing their unease.

Yang Xiao let Chen Fei and the others have breakfast, then go to rest in preparation for the day’s fishing activities. He himself ate two roasted mosquitoes, drank a bottle of water, and went to Xiao Zhe’s tent.

Xiao Zhe was sleeping inside. The night watch saw Yang Xiao and immediately greeted him respectfully.

”Where’s Xiao Zhe?”

”Our boss is sleeping.”

”It’s already this time, and he’s still sleeping? Go, wake your boss up.”

The opponent hesitated for a moment, knowing that Xiao Zhe and the others feared Yang Xiao, not daring to defy his orders, and turned to run into the tent. A moment later, Xiao Zhe walked over, bleary-eyed.

”Yang Xiao, what’s up so early?”

”Getting ready to catch fish!”

Yang Xiao pointed at the pool. By now, the sky was getting brighter, and Xiao Zhe turned his head to look, pleasantly surprised:

”My goodness, dried up in one night!”

Xiao Zhe then saw the backs of two large fish exposed in a shallow water pit at a distance, exclaiming:

”Oh wow, there are two mutated giant fish right there, we can catch them right away.”

Yang Xiao said calmly:

”Don’t touch those fish yet. There’s something you guys need to do. Can’t just sit and wait for fish to drop, right?”

Xiao Zhe smiled and said:

”No way, I know you guys worked hard last night. Tell us, what do you want us to do.”

”The four water barriers of the floodgate have all been removed, but the pool’s water isn’t drained fully. You’ll lead your people to dig a drainage ditch to let more water out. Also, catching small fish and shrimp is fine, but I’d suggest leaving the big fish for now.”

”Sure, no problem!”

After Yang Xiao spoke, he turned to leave, needing rest to prepare for the hard battle ahead.

Xiao Zhe woke Xu Hua and the others, especially those capable of Fireball, Wind Blade, Lightning, and Ice Ball Elemental Attack, and with a rumble, they blasted a drainage ditch one meter deep, one meter wide, and over ten meters long, allowing the previously slow-moving pool water to flow quickly again.

While Xiao Zhe and the crew were digging the drainage ditch, they also unearthed two three-meter-long eels, a dozen one-meter-long loaches, and dozens of small fish weighing over ten or twenty pounds.

Indeed, fish that weighed ten or twenty pounds were now considered small.

Chen Fei and three other girls stood on the shore, supervising Xiao Zhe and the others. Each time they caught a fish, the girls recorded it, including the number of genetic fragments, etc.

After an hour or two of this hassle, Xiao Zhe and his group acquired a total of 26 Genetic Fragments.

Xiao Zhe didn’t dare keep them all, obediently handing over half of the Genetic Fragments and half the fish to Chen Fei and her group.

After Huang Wen and the others got some sleep, they gradually woke up and took over Chen Fei’s supervision work of Xiao Zhe and his group.

Yang Xiao said to Huang Wen:

”You just need to supervise, no need to work. Especially with those two giant mutated fish in the shallow water pit, you mustn’t touch them and stay at least ten meters away.”

After Yang Xiao finished, he went to lie on the ground to sleep, and Chen Fei likewise lay beside Yang Xiao.

Xiao Zhe, Xu Hua, and others had caught several hundred pounds of small fish (mutated fish weighing ten or twenty pounds each), feeling very excited. They were itching to get their hands on the two massive mutated tilapia struggling in a nearby shallow water pit.

”Xiao Zhe, shall we just go catch those two fish?”

”But, Yang Xiao repeatedly warned us not to touch those two big fish.”

”If we catch them, we won’t hog them for ourselves, we can give them one.”

Xu Hua said, with some boys beside nodding eagerly.
