Super Gene Hunting Ground

Chapter 60: Chapter 60 The Crazy Sparrow

Xu Hua watched the figures of Qin Yu and the others flying away and said coldly:

”Let them go, we don’t need them. Xiao Zhe, quickly kill this Sparrow King and see what good stuff it has. Let’s agree, the Genetic Fragments are for us to split, and each of us takes one Cultivation Technique Manual or weapon.”

”Alright, whatever you say!”

Xiao Zhe drew out a Black Long Sword and slashed at the Sparrow King’s neck. With a squelch, he severed the Sparrow King’s neck. The Sparrow King shrieked and immediately died.

The sparrows that were circling in the sky initially thought the lark, who was really Qin Yu, was rescuing the Sparrow King and screeched excitedly for the king’s salvation.

But when they saw Qin Yu throw the Sparrow King to the ground, they realized something was wrong.

Now, with Xiao Zhe slashing the Sparrow King to death and its screams echoing, all the sparrows were enraged.

Uh, uh, uh...

A sky full of furious screeches descended as all the sparrows swooped towards Xiao Zhe and his group en masse.

”Boom, boom, boom.”

With three soft sounds, three items dropped where the Sparrow King was slain: a complete Genetic Disk, a golden bow, and a golden page.

Xiao Zhe and Xu Hua were overjoyed and bent down to pick them up.

”Whoosh!”

The sound of arrows whizzing through the air came above their heads. Looking up, they saw dozens of Feathered Arrows flying towards them.

”Dammit!”

Xiao Zhe rolled to the side to dodge them.

Xu Hua quickly activated his Copper Skin and backed away.

Out of the dozen or so team members around them, three were hit by the arrows and fell to the ground, and five were struck in non-lethal parts and screamed in pain.

The first wave of Feathered Arrows had just fallen, and the second wave followed immediately.

Xiao Zhe glanced at the three treasures on the ground, gritted his teeth, and turned to flee. Life was more important.

Relying on his Copper Skin, Xu Hua bit his lip and rushed forward. He really wanted the treasures the Sparrow King dropped.

Shhh, shhh!

Two arrow tips pierced Xu Hua’s back and arm, embedding about an inch into his skin, causing unbearable pain.

As Xu Hua tried to retrieve the treasures on the ground, a giant sparrow had already arrived in front of him, its sharp talons reaching for him.

Xu Hua swung the Black Long Sword at the sparrow’s giant claw.

With a squelch, he chopped off one of the sparrow’s legs.

However, more sparrows arrived, shooting more Feathered Arrows.

Three more arrows struck Xu Hua’s body; a sparrow clawed at his head, pulling off a patch of hair with a strip of skin. If not for his Copper Skin, any ordinary person would have had a split skull and died.

Horrified screams echoed around Xu Hua as several teammates were slain by either sparrow claws or arrows.

Xu Hua realized he no longer had a chance to grab the three treasures in front of him. Otherwise, he would be the next to die.

Thus, he clenched his teeth and turned to escape.

By now, Xiao Zhe had already fled to the pond’s edge, and the ten or so people who stayed behind in the camp were already fleeing downhill.

Xiao Zhe didn’t have time to grab anything from the camp; he was running for his life.

He suddenly understood why Yang Xiao had hurriedly left with everyone: the guy had predicted all of this.

Cries of distress came from behind, but Xiao Zhe was powerless to care. He sprinted two miles before confirming there were no sparrows chasing him, finally allowing himself to catch his breath.

He had just rested for a few minutes when he heard distant screeching. Turning his head, he saw Xu Hua covered in blood, desperately running while five giant sparrows pursued him, shooting Feathered Arrows as they chased.

”Xiao Zhe, help me!”

Xu Hua shouted when he saw Xiao Zhe.

Xiao Zhe gritted his teeth and sped downhill; he had no confidence in taking on five giant sparrows alone. These creatures flew in the sky, shooting arrows continuously. There was no way to fight back—only to be struck passively.

”Xiao Zhe, you’re a goddamn bastard for leaving me! Aren’t we brothers?”

Xu Hua shouted desperately while running, not daring to slack off for a moment.

”Xu Hua, it’s not that I’m abandoning you. I simply don’t have the ability. Keep running to the Genetic Store’s protection circle at the school—that’s the only way out. Hang in there, I believe in you, you can do it.”

”Screw your mother!”

Xu Hua got hit by another arrow, once again saved by his Copper Skin. An ordinary person would have had their heart pierced and died.

Poor Xu Hua ran all the way to the academy, finally reaching the protection circle of the Genetic Store. With a sigh of relief, he dashed inside.

Xiao Zhe was already there waiting, watching Xu Hua’s approach with some pain. Xu Hua looked like a porcupine, with at least twenty Feathered Arrows in his back.

Xiao Zhe quickly helped Xu Hua, dragging him inside.

The five sparrows were on a fierce chase, and the one leading the charge slammed into the Genetic Store’s protection circle.

Sizzle!

With a soft sound, the massive sparrow evaporated into a wisp of smoke, leaving not even a trace behind.

The four sparrows behind it shrieked in terror and flapped their massive wings, turning away.

...

Yang Xiao led Huang Wen and the others back to their camp, briefly tidied up, and instructed everyone to rekindle the campfire to continue smoking the fish, preventing spoilage.

Although he was a bit annoyed with Huang Wen for her reckless actions, risking herself, he secretly admired her loyalty and willingness to sacrifice herself for friends.

Huang Wen knew she’d acted impulsively and looked at Yang Xiao like a child who had done wrong, lowered her head, and softly said:

”Sorry, boss...”

”Remember, don’t act rashly in the future. Stay calm when situations arise; we are a team now. One person’s actions can affect others—sometimes even the entire team.”

”Yes, I was wrong. Thank you for risking your life to save me along with Feifei and the others.”

Yang Xiao rolled his eyes at Huang Wen.

Huang Wen suddenly said with a hint of emotion:

”If you were in danger, I’d also risk my life to save you.”

Yang Xiao: ”...”

Everyone had just sat down to catch their breath when Qin Yu and Deng Xiao arrived.

Huang Wen grabbed them excitedly, saying:

”You’re back! How is it—are you hurt?”

Qin Yu and Deng Xiao nodded.

The three rejoiced, tears flowing freely as they embraced.

”What happened to the Sparrow King?”

Feifei, worried about the Sparrow King, asked.

”I caught the Sparrow King and tossed it to Xiao Zhe.”

”Ugh, Xiao Zhe got lucky then.”

Feifei felt a pang of regret.

Yang Xiao stood aside silently. One glance at Qin Yu and Deng Xiao, and it was clear—no wonder they were school flower-level beauties. Their figures and charisma outshone Huang Wen and the others. Truly, without comparisons, there’s no harm.

Qin Yu looked up at Yang Xiao, then at Huang Wen, her expression slightly awkward and said:

”Huang Wen, Yang Xiao, we’ve left Xiao Zhe’s team. Deng Xiao and I want to join yours. Can we? Rest assured, we’ve gone through Mutation now. We can contribute to your battles, hunt Mutated Creatures together, and won’t hold you back.”

Deng Xiao also quickly expressed her willingness, saying she wasn’t afraid of hardship or death.

Everyone looked at Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao didn’t speak. Taking Qin Yu and Deng Xiao in wasn’t a problem, but he couldn’t say yes outright; otherwise, Huang Wen and the others would tease him for going soft on beauties.

”Ahem, you two were part of Xiao Zhe’s team. If I take you in, won’t Xiao Zhe be unhappy?”

Yang Xiao said nonchalantly.

Qin Yu and Deng Xiao bit their lips and said:

”We’re free to choose.”

”Hmm, I heard... Qin Yu, you’re Xiao Zhe’s girlfriend, and Deng Xiao is Xu Hua’s girlfriend, right?”

”No!”

Qin Yu and Deng Xiao answered simultaneously, their expressions a bit agitated.
