Super Gene Hunting Ground

Chapter 51: Chapter 51 Ambush

Huang Wen set up the tent and simple living supplies they brought along.

Yang Xiao had everyone pile up two heaps of branches outside the tent, and another campfire inside the tent.

”Boss, it’s understandable to prepare a campfire inside the tent, but why also outside?”

Feifei asked.

Yang Xiao replied:

”Just in case a large number of Mutated Creatures attack us at night, we can light the outside campfire to both illuminate and scare away these creatures. This is on the mountain, the stronghold of Mutated Creatures, who knows what might happen at night?”

In fact, this was also why Yang Xiao had Xiao Zhe bring people up, promising to share half of the mutated fish in the pond with him. Bringing Xiao Zhe up was to use his Strength to jointly resist any unforeseen events at night; otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so kind.

Everything was ready by around 4 PM; because of the thick fog in the sky, it got dark early, and by then it was already quite dim.

Yang Xiao had Chen Fei and others break another water blockade, increasing the water flow again.

Yang Xiao then discussed with Xiao Zhe about the night watch arrangements, each side assigning fifteen people for the night watch, rotating every four hours.

Huang Wen and others started burning a campfire to roast mosquitoes, and after eating the roasted mosquitoes, the first shift of night watch started standing guard, led by Feifei, Dai Yun, Huang Wen, and others.

Yang Xiao lay down to sleep, preparing for the second night watch.

The place was small, so Yang Xiao could only squeeze onto a makeshift bed with Chen Fei and the others to sleep.

Before sleeping, Yang Xiao placed a stick beside him as a sort of barrier from Chen Fei and the other girls.

Chen Fei picked up the stick and threw it away, laughing:

”Afraid I’ll eat you up?”

Then she lay down beside Yang Xiao, snuggling up to him.

Yang Xiao felt a bit vexed but thought better of it, lucky it wasn’t Feifei lying next to him, otherwise, he’d surely have a nightmare.

Although Chen Fei wasn’t a beauty, she was comely, with a good figure and quite a bit of feminine charm.

Yang Xiao was somewhat tired, and after a little idle chat with Chen Fei and the others, he fell asleep.

Half asleep, he felt something pressing on him, and opening his eyes, he realized it was Chen Fei’s leg over him.

”Sigh, can’t even sleep peacefully.”

He wanted to find another place to sleep, but there was no extra space; there wasn’t anywhere to move either, as he was already lying on the edge of the bedding, propped up against the surrounding wood.

Waking up in the middle of the night, Yang Xiao went outside.

It was a bit cold at night, and the sound of rushing water was in his ears; Huang Wen and others were quietly chatting around the campfire, most of them sleepy.

Seeing Yang Xiao awake, Huang Wen smiled:

”Boss, you’re up!”

Dai Yun handed a roasted mosquito to Yang Xiao:

”Boss, want a midnight snack?”

Yang Xiao didn’t intend to eat but glanced and noticed something odd about this roasted mosquito. There was a sour and spicy chili sauce smell in the air, and in the firelight, he saw a layer of chili sauce indeed smeared on the roasted mosquito.

So, he happily took the roasted mosquito, bit into it, it was tangy and flavorful.

”Hmm, delicious, didn’t expect you to have hidden goods?”

Huang Wen, Feifei, and others snickered behind their hands.

Dai Yun said:

”A few days ago, we passed a ruin and found a bottle of chili sauce, we picked it up and put it in the bag. I suddenly remembered it while grilling today, but there’s too little, so I didn’t dare to take it out!”

”So, you few sneaked a bite at night.”

”How is it called sneaking a bite? Aren’t you eating now?”

Yang Xiao chuckled.

”Alright, guess you still have some conscience. Mm-hmm, a smear of chili sauce, the taste is completely different. By the way, any disturbances tonight?”

”So far, nothing unusual, we’ve had a few people watching around the tent, and the Xiao Zhe team next door just went to sleep.”

After finishing a roasted mosquito, Yang Xiao said to Huang Wen and others:

”Come with me to the sluice gate, it’s time to break the third water blockade.”

Huang Wen, Feifei, Dai Yun, and Chen Lu followed Yang Xiao out of the camp to the sluice gate.

Huang Wen took out a small flashlight from her backpack, shining a beam of light.

Yang Xiao was startled, saying:

”Didn’t expect you have this treasure.”

”Picked up from the ruins, never had the heart to use it.”

The water level of the pond had already dropped about 2 meters, and the water flow at the sluice gate wasn’t very large now. Yang Xiao said to Chen Lu:

”Try using your Ice Ball to break this water blockade.”

Chen Lu nodded, waved her hands, and a ball of white vapor, with an ice ball the size of a soccer ball, shot out, smashing into the third water blockade with a bang.

The water blockade was instantly covered with ice, even the flowing water froze in an instant.

Yang Xiao was taken aback and immediately said to Feifei:

”Feifei, attack quickly.”

Feifei immediately tossed her ten-meter-long Magic Hair, which wrapped around the water blockade like steel claws. With a strong pull, there was a cracking sound, and the water blockade split in two and fell.

The roaring sound of water rang out once more.

Yang Xiao shone Huang Wen’s flashlight into the pond, suddenly noticing dozens of large fish backs appearing on the water surface tens of meters away from the shore. The backs of these tilapia fish had Bone Spurs standing upright, as if ready for battle.

Today, they had already drained 2 meters of water from the pond. As the water level dropped, it seemed the fish in the pond sensed it.

Yang Xiao waved the flashlight a few times. Suddenly, with a whoosh sound, a bright light shot toward Yang Xiao.

Immediately after, dozens of bright lights shot over.

Yang Xiao shouted, ”Run!”

He tackled Huang Wen to the ground, pressing on her, and turned off the flashlight.

Chi, chi, chi...

Dozens of powerful sounds of air being sliced through rang out, and Yang Xiao felt the ground beside him tremble slightly, as if something had struck nearby.

In the dark, Yang Xiao lay on top of Huang Wen, who stared at him wide-eyed, both able to hear each other’s breaths.
