Super Gene Hunting Ground

Chapter 65: Chapter 65 Giant Eagle

Yang Xiao gathered Huang Wen, Qin Yu, Deng Xiao, Chen Fei, Chen Lu, Dai Yun, and Feifei together.

”I plan to go see the pond.”

As soon as Yang Xiao spoke, he startled Huang Wen and the others.

”Boss, with so many mutated sparrows, aren’t we going there to die?”

Feifei asked.

”It’s hard to say. We now have Huang Wen, Qin Yu, and Deng Xiao. They can use their Beast Souls to fly in the air to check the situation. If the conditions permit, we still have a chance. Our goal is not to fight the sparrows, but to pick up the treasures dropped by the Sparrow King. If Xiao Zhe didn’t lie to me, those dropped items should still be on the beach by the pond.”

Huang Wen, Qin Yu, and Deng Xiao exchanged glances.

Qin Yu said:

”Yang Xiao, thank you for taking me in. I’m willing to take the risk and try.”

Deng Xiao also agreed.

Yang Xiao smiled and said:

”Don’t be nervous. I’m not asking you to charge in recklessly or to go and die. I’ll just send you to scout. If there’s an opportunity, we’ll collect the treasures. If it’s dangerous, everyone retreats immediately. You three fly at low altitude, and we will defend on the ground. We can barely handle a small number of sparrows.”

After some discussion, they decided to head up the mountain early the next morning.

That day, Yang Xiao ate a lot of roasted fish. The mutated grilled fish meat continuously produced electric currents in his body. Yang Xiao ate more and more, consuming a hefty thirty to forty pounds. If he weren’t worried about eating up all their food, he might have wanted to eat all the supplies in one go.

Feifei watched Yang Xiao devour the food with wide-open eyes.

”Boss, you have quite the appetite. But how come you don’t seem to gain weight after eating so much?”

”Hehe, envious of my figure?”

”Come on, you’re just a junior. Don’t pretend to be a brother in front of me.”

Feifei gave Yang Xiao a sidelong glance.

Laughter erupted from the group.

In the morning, Yang Xiao quietly led Huang Wen and the others up the mountain.

Huang Wen and the other two activated their Beast Souls, transforming into a Blue Peacock, a Thrush, and a Magpie, flying in the air ahead to clear the path, while Yang Xiao led Chen Lu, Chen Fei, Dai Yun, and Feifei along the main road.

Moments later, they arrived at a location several dozen meters from the pond, where they could hear screeches emanating from above the pond. They immediately halted.

”What’s the situation?”

”The sound is off; it seems like the cries of a fierce battle.”

”Huang Wen, you three fly over slowly and see what’s happening from a distance. Don’t fly over recklessly.”

”Yes, boss.”

Huang Wen and the other two stealthily flew toward the pond, utilizing the nearby mountains and forests for cover. They witnessed an exhilarating scene above the pond: a massive eagle with wings spanning dozens of meters was battling a flock of sparrows mid-air.

The harrowing cries came from the sparrows being attacked.

Afraid to act on their own, Huang Wen and the others hurried back to report to Yang Xiao.

”Boss, what should we do?”

Huang Wen’s voice trembled slightly, shaken by the sight of the gigantic eagle.

Yang Xiao pondered for a moment and asked:

”Are the tents on the pond’s shore still there?”

”They are.”

”Alright, let’s quietly sneak into the tents and observe from there. Remember, no one acts without my orders. If anyone disobeys, they can leave this team right now.”

Recalling how Huang Wen previously acted on her own to save Qin Yu and the others, Yang Xiao felt it necessary to establish strict rules. Otherwise, if someone acted on impulse, it could lead to everyone getting hurt, or worse.

Everyone nodded, and together, using the thick mist as cover, they quietly headed for the tents by the pond’s shore.

The sparrow flock was busy fighting the eagle, some distance from the shore, giving them a chance to ignore this area.

They entered the tents, each finding a spot to hide, observing the battle above the pond through the tent’s tears.

Yang Xiao noticed that, despite the eagle’s ferocity, the sparrows managed to hold their ground thanks to sheer numbers. However, this fragile balance didn’t last long before the eagle broke through.

The enormous eagle’s teeth and talons were exceptionally sharp, and even the feathered arrows it launched were extraordinarily powerful, piercing through several sparrows’ necks, causing them to fall.

These sparrows plummeted onto the muddy beach of the pond, occasionally falling into the central water pit, where giant tilapia promptly devoured them, leaving only feathers floating on the water’s surface in mere moments.

Though the sparrows attacked in a frenzy, the giant eagle suffered little damage, losing only a few feathers at most.

Uh, uh, uh...

The sparrows’ cries grew increasingly tragic.

Despite their fearless charges against the eagle, it was too fierce. Within ten minutes, several dozen sparrows had been killed.

Realizing they couldn’t defeat the eagle, the sparrows soon fled into the fog, vanishing.

The eagle watched them leave with a triumphant screech:

”Uh—”

Then, to everyone’s shock, the giant eagle spread its massive wings and dove toward the pond below, its tree trunk-thick legs extending talons as sharp as knives, plunging into the water.

With a splash,

a massive mutated tilapia was caught and lifted into the air by the eagle.

Immediately, dozens of bone spurs shot out from the water, targeting the eagle with precision.

The eagle remained unfazed, with a flap of its enormous wings, its vast body abruptly shifted direction, accelerating into the mist and vanishing from sight.

”Holy crap!”

Yang Xiao’s heart screamed, his hands trembling slightly. This immense eagle was so terrifying that it was the fiercest mutated creature he had ever encountered.

Yang Xiao glanced at the girls beside him, all of whom were visibly shocked, their faces showing terror.

”Alright, now listen to my command. We will immediately head to the pond’s beach and collect the fallen Genetic Fragments and sparrow corpses as quickly as possible. Remember, if the eagle or sparrows return, everyone must retreat instantly. We can’t afford to linger out of greed for the Genetic Fragments. Move!”

Yang Xiao finished speaking and dashed out, giving no time for explanations.

Huang Wen and the others were momentarily stunned but quickly followed suit, especially Huang Wen, Qin Yu, and Deng Xiao, who activated their Beast Souls and soon overtook Yang Xiao.
