Super Gene Hunting Ground

Chapter 69: Chapter 69 Lack of Salt

Yang Xiao, do you mean that this giant eagle isn’t alone, and there might be other giant eagles?”

Qin Yu asked.

”It’s just a guess, but I estimate that the nest of this giant eagle is on Biyun Mountain, and there should be more young ones.”

”Young ones?”

Deng Xiao and the others stared at Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao smiled, saying:

”The logic is simple. If there were other adult giant eagles, they could just fly over and catch the fish together. Why would they send a single giant eagle to catch fish and transport it to a distant nest?”

Huang Wen and the others nodded in agreement.

Huang Wen’s eyes lit up, suddenly saying:

”If we find the giant eagle’s nest, won’t we find many genetic fragments, maybe even some magic weapons and skill secret manuals? Just think, this giant eagle is so powerful, and many powerful mutated creatures would become its prey, like the King of Nile Tilapia.”

Qin Yu and Deng Xiao, upon hearing this, also showed excited expressions, their eyes sparkling.

Yang Xiao looked at the three of them with an expression of amused exasperation:

”Leaving aside the fact that we can’t find the giant eagle’s nest in this dense fog, even if the nest were right in front of you, would you dare to snatch food from the eagle’s mouth?”

The three girls were stunned and said nothing.

Yang Xiao continued:

”We can’t mess with the giant eagle’s nest, but right in front of us, we have a treasure trove. The muddy banks of this pool are littered with genetic fragments left by the birds after killing fish, at least dozens of them. Don’t you want to pick them up?”

Huang Wen and the others had long noticed the genetic fragments glinting all over the sandbank near the pool, their eyes filled with envy.

”Of course we want to, but with so many giant birds, we’re no match for them.”

Yang Xiao smiled:

”There are two ways. The first is to wait until all the fish in the pool are caught. Once the birds leave, you can pick up the spoils at your leisure.”

”But how long would that take? Besides, Xiao Zhe’s team might come to pick up the spoils too. Today, Xiao Zhe came over asking how we caught so many mutated sparrows and about the situation at the pool. I didn’t tell him.”

Huang Wen said.

”Well, then I have a second way.”

”What way?”

The three girls looked at Yang Xiao in unison.

Yang Xiao suddenly said with a serious expression:

”Battle!”

”Battle?”

Deng Xiao almost jumped.

”Did I hear wrong? Are the four of us going to directly challenge these hundreds of birds? Wouldn’t we be shot like a hedgehog? Even Xu Hua, with his Copper Skin, was shot like a hedgehog; wouldn’t we just be pierced to death by thousands of arrows?”

”Not just the four of us, but all thirty-plus girls. I’m planning a large-scale exercise, involving everyone in a battle against the giant birds to skillfully improve their individual skills.”

Huang Wen saw Yang Xiao looking very serious, not as if he were joking, so she nodded.

”This is also an opportunity to indeed train everyone. Yang Xiao, should I call Feifei and the others now?”

”No need, today isn’t a good day. We’ll go down the mountain first and come back early tomorrow morning. Today everyone should rest well.”

The four of them descended the mountain. Yang Xiao had Huang Wen and the others roast the remaining eight sparrows.

”Boss, are you sure we can finish them?”

”What do you think? Hmm, it would be best with some chili sauce or the like as a condiment. Right now, we’re just eating plain, with only a bit of salt. It really isn’t delicious enough!”

Huang Wen shrugged, saying:

”I’m powerless here. Maybe in a few days, we won’t even have salt.”

Yang Xiao was stunned, asking:

”Do the other teams still have salt?”

”The Xiao Zhe team has the most salt stored, but it probably won’t last a few months. After another half month, we might run out of salt. We’ve searched the ruins of several nearby supermarkets and malls a few times, and we can’t find any more salt.”

Huang Wen sighed.

It’s the apocalypse now, and there’s no company supplying and selling salt. Everyone can only rely on previously stored salt and condiments to get by. Although the meat of these mutated creatures is tasty, without salt, over time, it’s still hard to eat.

Moreover, although everyone’s bodies are undergoing genetic mutations, some basic physiological needs haven’t changed, like salt.

”We have to find a way to get more salt.”

Qin Yu said:

”These genetic survival materials are abundant in urban areas. Even in ruins, salt and some condiments are still around and won’t spoil. Big supermarkets and malls are everywhere in the city. If we send people into the city, we should be able to find more essential daily supplies.”

Yang Xiao nodded,

”You’re right, but we don’t know the situation in the city now, and I’m reluctant to recklessly send you there. Actually, isn’t Nine-tails City a prosperous commercial area? Even if those at Xianan University control the food in Nine-tails City, they can’t possibly eat raw salt, right? We can send people to exchange some food, like smoked fish or sparrow meat.”

Yang Xiao’s words reminded everyone, but someone immediately said:

”A few days ago, Zhao Gang from our place went to Nine-tails City to look for food, and some people from Xianan University killed several of our people, forcing us back.”

”Right, boss, it’s the apocalypse now, and we don’t know what the situation is at Xianan University. We’re weak and can’t risk it easily.”

The girls all expressed their concerns.

Yang Xiao smiled, saying:

”I’ll think of a way to solve the salt issue slowly. Anyway, we won’t lack it for at least half a month. Today’s task is to eat well, rest well, and tomorrow morning we’ll have a battle at the pool, so prepare yourselves. I still have more than twenty genetic fragments here.”

Yang Xiao finished speaking and handed the genetic fragments to Huang Wen.

”You gather the genetic fragments collected these days and see who still needs some basic equipment. Lead them to the Genetic Store to buy it.”

Huang Wen took some of the girls to the Genetic Store for simple equipment. Meanwhile, Yang Xiao and Chen Fei started roasting sparrow meat.

These girls would generally be full after eating one or two pounds of meat, and the thirty girls could finish one roasted sparrow, while the remaining seven roasted sparrows went to Yang Xiao.

Everyone was used to Yang Xiao’s huge appetite and was too lazy to watch anymore. After eating, they went to rest or did their own things.

Qin Yu and Deng Xiao helped Yang Xiao with the roasting, while Yang Xiao devoured the food beside them.

Feifei watched for a while, felt sick, gagged a few times, and ran away hurriedly.

Yang Xiao paused, tearing off a piece of meat and munching it as he said:

”Is my eating that disgusting?”

Qin Yu laughed:

”Your eating isn’t disgusting; it’s just that seeing you eat so much might make some people feel a bit queasy.”

Actually, these girls weren’t stupid and had long guessed that Yang Xiao might be absorbing energy through food.

Yang Xiao cast a sidelong glance at Qin Yu and continued eating voraciously.

Six sparrows later, it took Yang Xiao three whole hours to finish. Looking at the pile of sparrow bones next to him, he even doubted himself—did I eat all this?

Of course, after eating so much mutated sparrow meat, combined with some previously accumulated energy, Yang Xiao’s Genetic Data System issued two prompts in succession.

”You can now upgrade 1 point of Genetic Attribute, please choose.”

”You can now upgrade 1 point of Genetic Attribute, please choose.”

Yang Xiao chose to increase 1 point in Strength and 1 point in Agility, making his current genetic data as follows:

Strength: 7

Agility: 6

Defense: 5

Wisdom: 5
