Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Night had gradually fallen. General Ajiket sat steadily in his tent, with a liaison officer on his left and a group of anxious generals and deputy generals on his right.

Many support troops, along with the defense forces they had assisted, had reported back safely.

The combat prowess of the Luo Ze elite had exceeded their expectations; it had taken a great deal of effort to barely defeat about ten of the elites.

Many Luo Ze elites, in an attempt to simultaneously protect the main army and annihilate the Beastmen efficiently, had dispersed among the troops.

This had given the Wansheng Country elite an opportunity.

However, they were unable to restrain individual Luo Ze elites like the elite troops led by Yang Yu to prevent them from gathering together and unleashing their formidable strength.

Many troops suffered as a result, struggling to support themselves before barely achieving victory.

Some troops were poorly defended and fell into disadvantage. They could only retreat to the camp with as many men as they could save.

Others, due to lack of manpower or poor coordination, were overwhelmed by the Luo Ze Empire.

Overall, the strategy of deploying only elite troops in combat had been successful. Despite some losses, they had captured quite a few Luo Ze soldiers and elites, marginally fulfilling the plan to weaken the Luo Ze Empire’s combat effectiveness.

Yet...

An unfortunate piece of news had still made its way back to the camp. A defensive force had been attacked by a powerful team of Luo Ze elites, and only about sixty men had managed to flee back to the camp in panic. The defense force they had gone to support was surrounded by the Luo Ze Empire, suffering heavy losses.

Upon hearing this, Generals Bing Quan and Marco were restless. If that group of Luo Ze elites moved elsewhere, it could cause even greater losses. It was suggested that more troops should be sent to provide support.

But General Ajiket had rejected this proposal.

Even if soldiers from Wansheng Country who were under attack managed to contact them, by the time their support troops arrived, it would already be too late.

The troops on the battlefield were not far from each other, but they each had their own enemies to deal with.

The initial rule was that troops who were fighting more comfortably should contact nearby units, and if a unit was too exhausted, it should return directly.

Many troops returned visibly fatigued, unable to concern themselves with other units.

After a while, suddenly a message came through the Crystal Ball. Generals Bing Quan and Marco tensed up, and even the normally optimistic General Yi Tianwen was worried. Only General Ajiket, unfazed, ordered the liaison officer to connect the communication.

However, contrary to their expectations, the face that appeared on the screen was not that of any officer but a blonde elf whose face was partially hidden by her bangs.

The liaison officer had already known that the contact was not from the front lines, hesitated, but Ajiket had him connect the call.

”General Ajiket,

It is an honor to meet you. My name is Dorena, an elf appointed by Minister Ming Dalak to handle communications.

This is our first meeting like this. I am one of the instructors at the multi-racial training camp.

Teaching for the various sub-human species is essentially complete; we have instilled in them the brutality and significance of this war. Many special sub-human species are now capable of fighting for Wansheng Country like the Silver Teeth Clan, the Striped Guardian Clan, the Tree Frog Clan, and so on.

This year, we will have more forces joining the battle. We can also somewhat manage to construct our own intelligence network like humans.

General Ajiket, if I may ask boldly, how are things on your side?

His Majesty and Minister Ming Dalak are interested in testing the efficiency of our intelligence transmission.”

After hearing Dorena’s voice, General Ajiket pondered for a while, but still communicated the factual situation to Dorena.

Dorena remained expressionless,

”Worse than imagined. Although I’ve heard much about it and was mentally prepared, it’s still somewhat hard to accept when it actually happens.

But do not worry.

”I think, even if we ultimately fail to capture Benliang City, we will definitely still have an opportunity.”

”Besides the race you deployed, another stronger race will join you after the spring. As long as they don’t enter complex terrains but stay on the open grasslands, their mobility can be fully utilized.”

”Though they have difficulty in siege warfare, as long as we use them well... we can preserve most of the current achievements.”

”Since their numbers are not many, I hope General Ajiket can personally lead and command that troop.”

”I understand, I will command them personally,” Ajiket nodded and asked, ”Is there anything else?”

”There is one more thing. Today should be the day they rendezvous with you. Minister Ming Dalak said, please treat them well; they are also one of the founding races of Wansheng Country. The founding Emperor of this country succeeded with their clever strategies.”

...

...

”Tu Dou, the main troop’s communication line is busy. Do you want to switch to another line?”

Bai Jin showed the Crystal Ball to Yang Yu, but Yang Yu had never encountered a busy line before. He felt that the images were no different from before.

”We don’t need to contact them anymore. We’re almost at the camp, and it will be night soon; they will be able to detect our approach.”

Walking along, Lotcar’s ears moved, seemingly catching a strange sound, and he tilted his head back.

Turning around, Yang Yu noticed other Beastmen, like Lotcar, looking up into the pitch-black sky.

Gradually lifting his head, Yang Yu also caught a bit of the sound of flapping wings.

At that moment, he saw some small dark spots flying toward them from the distant sky.

”Could it be them?”

Bai Jin and Iyas looked at Yang Yu with puzzled faces, and Yang Yu explained with a calm heart:

”There aren’t many races that can fly in the sky, most of the Hapi reside on the islands of the Ocean Duchy.

The ones we can see in Wansheng Country, and barely count as Beastmen... and would appear at this time.

Only the Winged Hand Clan, also known as the Bat Beastmen.”

”Correct.”

Lotcar affirmed,

”I didn’t expect them to come. I have heard somewhat of the name of the Winged Hand Clan.

In the past, the Winged Hand Clan was widespread, only coming out to hunt at night.

My parents even taught me how to distinguish the hunting sounds of the Winged Hand Clan...

But...”

”This timing, in this cold winter, they should be hibernating in caves.”

The dark shadows slowly approached, and even though it was pitch black, through the barrier, Yang Yu could still confirm that the ones arriving were the Winged Hand Clan.

These Winged Hand Clan, using echolocation to ensure the figures below were all Beastmen, slowed their flight speed and landed steadily on the ground.

Their hands, just like those of real bats, supported thin skin wings connected to their flanks, with a pair of large ears folding forwards, solely to maximize the collection of the rebounding ultrasonic waves.

The Winged Hand Clan looked around, shaking their large ears, searching for something, and finally, in unison, they walked towards Yang Yu.
