Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 663: Chapter 663: Mindset Explosion

The night gradually deepened as Chui Ye led his troops to resist the attacks of the Beastmen time and again.

The cries of the soldiers were incessant, but the Extermination Force remained orderly without a trace of wavering, obediently following Chui Ye’s commands.

Unfortunately, the number of the Extermination Force had already decreased to half of its original size, while the Beastman Army still appeared imposing and indestructible.

“Liaison officer! Liaison officer! Any news yet?”

Chui Ye called repeatedly, time and again for the liaison officer to make contact, but all attempts fell on deaf ears, with no responses.

While Chui Ye’s troops struggled to hold on, General Ajiket’s troops were indulging in hot, steaming food, the fatigue of several days wiped away by the delicious meals.

Having learned this information from the Magician who had cast Reconnaissance Magic, Chui Ye’s mindset exploded in frustration.

The fact that they could cook food so conspicuously meant they were not afraid of the arrival of human reinforcements at all.

Why weren’t they afraid of the human reinforcements’ arrival? Did they think they had an absolute numerical advantage, or…

Chui Ye dared not ponder any further.

He had wanted to deliver a fatal blow to General Ajiket’s troops when they were weak, but now there was no chance at all.

Watching Dongmu and Yang Yu active on the battlefield, Chui Ye clenched his teeth in anger; as he cursed the troops that had failed their duty, he led the remaining troops to surrender without further resistance.

Continuing to fight would be as good as not having reinforcements at all.

Wiping the blood off his fists, Dongmu boasted proudly, “Hahaha, a complete victory! I can’t believe it was that simple.”

Bound, Chui Ye kept a straight face and asked emotionlessly, “How exactly did you find out about our plans? And how many of our troops have you taken down? You couldn’t have arrived this quickly!”

Dongmu spread his hands, “As for how many exactly, you will find out when you get to the prisoner camp.

As for how we knew about your plans and managed to arrive so quickly…

Your soldiers remained tight-lipped when questioned, and we have no obligation to tell you.”

After speaking, Dongmu found a Deputy General to hand over the surrendered soldiers, then ordered various troops to go for their meal.

General Ajiket stood up slowly and, walking up to Dongmu, expressed his sincere gratitude, “Thanks to you all, our troops were spared from harm; I can’t thank you enough.”

“Grand General, if you must thank someone, thank that guy!”

Dongmu laughed heartily and pointed at Yang Yu, who was organizing the troops.

“If it weren’t for him, we truly wouldn’t have made it in time. Even if we had, we would certainly have been surrounded by the Luo Ze Empire’s soldiers and caught in a fierce battle.

The Luo Ze Empire wanted to use a divide and conquer strategy against you, but it ended up being used against them.

Well, their intentions to preserve their strength also helped us a lot.

If it had come down to a fight to the death, the outcome would have been uncertain.”

General Ajiket scrutinized Yang Yu from head to toe repeatedly, detecting a faint human scent on him, which he could not possibly mistake after years of fighting against the Luo Ze Empire.

“Is that so? I’d like to hear more about the process later. Could you introduce me to that young man first?”

“Of course.”

Dongmu waved to Yang Yu, who had just finished organizing the troops in the distance.

Yang Yu asked Lotcar to lead the troops to eat and came alone to where Dongmu and General Ajiket were standing.

“Thank you for everything you have done for our troops,” General Ajiket extended his hand towards Yang Yu.

Yang Yu modestly revealed a smile and grasped General Ajiket’s hand, “It is truly an honor to meet General Ajiket of the National Guardian General. I am Potato Thorn from the Plant Clan, and I apologize for my earlier rudeness. I hope General Ajiket can forgive me.”

Before he could finish, Dongmu laughed and patted Yang Yu on the back, “No need to be so formal, just be yourself as usual. General Ajiket won’t mind!”

Yang Yu quickly refused, “I am just a minor General in the army, where the distinction between superiors and subordinates must be clear.”

“Mm.”

General Ajiket nodded in agreement.

Generals like Dongmu, who were unbound by conventions and could blend in with their subordinates, were the minority. However, considering Dongmu’s formidable strength and that troop deployment had never been an issue under him, many had come to accept his leadership style.

Yet as the National Guardian General, Ajiket inherently hoped for a clear distinction in the ranks.

This young man had not grown arrogant from his recent performance or the gratitude he received, which was rare indeed.

Potato Thorn, Half-Plant Clan… It seemed familiar…

Murmuring to himself for a while, Ajiket then remembered hearing from the Lu Hua Army about a talented young Half-Plant Clan member who had significantly contributed during the strategy for East View City.

Although the Lu Hua Army had not mentioned a name, judging from Yang Yu’s recent actions, it most likely was him.

“In the army, there should be discipline. No matter what your status is, as long as you contribute to Wansheng Country, we will respect you. Come, let’s go have a meal.”

Sensing the tempting aroma in the air, Ajiket already felt the urge to feast.

Seeing the reinforcements clad in armors of Luoze Empire, Ajiket knew that Dongmu must have taken supplies from Luoze Empire as spoils of war, and he decided not to hold back today.

At this critical juncture, Marco navigated through the chaotic battlefield and brought steaming hot soup to Ajiket,

“Great General, the meal is ready. Please, have some.”

Just as he was about to move, Ajiket halted, gazing at the soup in Marco’s hands and sighed,

“Marco, you still haven’t grasped my true intentions.”

Marco, unsure of what he had done wrong, let his gaze wander unnaturally over himself as if looking for his flaws.

“Great General, I…”

“If I’m not mistaken, you must be hungry too. Keep this for yourself, and then, think about what I’ve told you before.”

With that, Ajiket gave Dongmu a look and walked right past Marco.

Marco stood there, slightly at a loss.

Pushing his mask up, Yang Yu approached this young general,

“General Marco, I think Great General Ajiket is upset because you abandoned your troops to focus solely on him. He probably stayed behind to show you that the troops are more important than him personally.

It’s unfortunate he doesn’t adapt his teaching to the individual, as some people find it hard to understand something that’s not spelled out.

Don’t overthink it and go astray.

I have learned quite a bit about human knowledge and thinking in the Human World. If General Marco doesn’t mind, I would like to teach you when there’s time.”

Originally, Yang Yu did not intend to linger, but he always felt that if he left this character unattended, there might be a dark turn in the future, so he decided to straightforwardly share his thoughts.

“Is that so?” Marco looked at the soup in his hands, felt its slowly decreasing temperature, and shook his head with a wry smile, “I really am not cut out to be a general.”
