Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 662: Chapter 662: Personally Investigating

At Benliang City, three generals were enjoying a hearty dinner.

Among them, the towering Snowman General stood out prominently. The other two generals felt dwarfed by his presence.

To accommodate the great Snowman General’s entry into the dining room, the other two generals had doors enlarged and widened. Even so, the Snowman General had to stoop to enter.

Lacking a suitable chair for the Snowman, he had to sit cross-legged on the ground, lifting an entire roast suckling pig into his mouth.

The two generals seated nearby were not surprised. They elegantly used knives and forks to cut their meat and sipped on sweet wine, gently clinking their glasses, already savoring the taste of victory.

However, this was all disrupted by an emergency call.

“General Scarlett, we’ve been attacked by a Beastman support troop that sprang from nowhere, and we’ve lost contact with all other units. I have no clue what’s happening.

The only unit we’ve been able to contact has discovered traces of traitors, and then they’ve encountered the Beastman Army. They’re now engaged in a life-or-death battle!”

“What did you say?”

One general, with his long black and white hair, stood up abruptly, crushing the wine glass in his hand,

“Send someone immediately to try and make contact with the other units…

That won’t be enough…

Dispatch Magic Ecaster, have him use the fastest Flying Magic to confirm the situation!

Hurry, go!”

“Yes!” The soldier on standby immediately carried out General Scarlett’s orders.

Another general, a stunning woman with fiery red lips and curly brown hair, gently swirled the wine in her glass, resting her leg over the other,

“General Scarlett, now that it’s happened, there’s no point in getting angry or acting rashly. We might as well wait methodically for the situation to unfold.”

General Scarlett slammed his fist on the dining table, “Wulan, I can’t believe you can say that now. Do you comprehend the gravity of the situation?

Do you know how many soldiers are fighting on the front line at this moment?

Do you realize if this operation fails and we don’t completely deal with those Beastmen, they will tirelessly launch attacks on the plains?

This war has dragged on long enough, and I want it to end soon.

We’re all cursed by this damn plains weather, blocking the Empire’s grand plan.”

“Ultimately, you just detest failure.

You needn’t worry too much, our soldiers are well-trained, unlike the ragtag army of Wansheng Country.

Even if the worst comes to pass, the soldiers will surrender rather than be like those Beastmen who charge headlong to their deaths against our forces.

With the giant dragons’ rule in place, we can’t lose many men.

We have plenty of Beastmen prisoners ready for labor; we’re nearly at capacity.

I’m sure Wansheng Country would be willing to make a trade, returning our soldiers.”

Draining the wine from her glass in one gulp, Wulan set the goblet down on the table without a hint of panic,

“Our duty is to defend Benliang City. As long as we keep this place secure, it provides a window of opportunity for the Empire’s offensive forces. By next year, we can swiftly bring the entire plains under our control.

The rest is to let the Beastmen gaze upon the walls of Despair, sighing in sorrow, until they eventually surrender docilely.”

Wulan exuded confidence with every move. In her view, even if a few worms infiltrated the troops, or the enemy dispatched reinforcements, it didn’t matter.

This year was shaping up to be better than any before.

At this time in previous years, the Beastmen would’ve already taken the plains and started building up their defense.

But this year, if they don’t hurry up, they might not get the chance.

Ha, even if they hurry, there’s no chance, for here lies the support of the Snowman General.

Wulan glanced at the Snowman General, who was devouring his meal with gusto, showing zero interest in participating in the strategic decisions here—he simply followed orders.

This Snowman General, along with his subordinates, was a huge drain on their resources just for meals. To let them fight in only one battle would be a total loss.

Thinking so, Wulan kept her thoughts to herself, not even letting them show on her face, and just watched General Scarlett angrily withdraw his hand.

“Hmph, talking to a woman like you is hopeless! The plan is flawless. If they could break our plan at an unexpected time, it shows that they are different from before.”

Scarlett turned his back, and despite the array of delicious foods behind him, he had lost all appetite,

“Maybe, the situation we feared most has occurred. Because of someone’s growth, there’s been a change in tactics.

If there’s even the slightest possibility of them turning the tables, we must really assassinate! Eliminate all hope of an overturn!

I’m going to arrange our forces, scout for information, and if necessary, I might make a personal visit. As for Benliang City, you handle it yourself!”

After speaking, Scarlett left without looking back, while Wulan just used her fork to pick up a piece of meat, spun it in front of her, and murmured to herself,

“Quite the eager beaver.”

Back on the battlefield with General Chui Ye’s and the West Fifth Army’s rescue troops.

General Chui Ye wanted to find a stable strategy amidst the increasingly chaotic battlefield, but the West Fifth Army’s rescue operations were completely unreasonable.

With tough characters like Silver Wolf and Dongmu tearing open gaps in the front-line defense, just directing soldiers to fill the gaps was draining enough.

More disgraceful still, the Beastman Army used their numerical advantage to surround them—those in fixed formations—and launched attacks on their flanks.

As the attacks came from all directions, even though Luo Ze Empire’s magicians had undergone more specialized magic training, they were gradually overwhelmed, resulting in spells exploding one after another within their ranks.

In such a precarious situation, Chui Ye kept struggling. He was still waiting for the reinforcements he believed in to arrive.

As the battle raged on, night deepened, and a delicious smell began to permeate the air, discernible even to the humans.

The West Fifth Army’s rescue troops, having charged all the way, had yet to have their dinner. Seeing their advantage, the logistics team started cooking right on the battlefield.

General Marco strongly condemned this, “We’re still in battle! The enemy could send reinforcements at any moment – how can you be cooking right now?”

The logistics chief laughed as he replied:

“Reinforcements? Where would they find any?

General, don’t worry too much. Even if there are reinforcements, with so many of us here, just the spit of each person could drown them.

I’ve heard their scattered forces don’t amount to more than roughly thirty units, totaling only about two hundred thousand men. Over these past few days, we’ve faced fewer, and surely we’ve sent off at least tens of thousands of them.

Given the current situation, other Luo Ze’s troops are likely far away and will need a long time to arrive, I’m afraid.

I see your soldiers are looking quite pale and thin.

If they don’t get enough food, they could die right here on the battlefield.

Don’t worry, we’ve taken plenty of supplies from the humans, enough to feast on for several days.”

“Tens of thousands? Are you serious? What exactly is going on?” Marco could scarcely believe his ears.

The chief cook continued to smile and directed his logistics team to cut open a recently confiscated Storage Scroll with a chef’s knife, instantly spilling a variety of food ingredients onto the ground.

“If you want to know, sit down. Eat and listen,” he said.
