Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 670: Chapter 670: If You Can Do It, Just Step Up

Leading his own forces, Yang Yu established his stronghold near a series of green tents under the command of higher-ranking officers, arranging his troops.

Now, Yang Yu was still just a General. Though Dongmu valued him and greatly appreciated his previous performance, he couldn’t bring him to participate in the generals’ meetings or join their discussions.

Yang Yu was not surprised.

If it weren’t for his outstanding performance earlier, Dongmu would not have let his guard down and mingled with him.

It would probably take some time to convince and gain the recognition of the other generals with these achievements.

Thankfully, the System had already provided a clear task description.

Yang Yu could basically imagine what these generals might discuss.

The West Fifth Army’s rescue troops totaled thirty thousand, and the East Second Army had brought twenty thousand backup forces. Together with the ninety thousand from the Central Forces that had been found, minus the casualties, there were approximately 137,000 people who could be enlisted as combatants.

The over three hundred thousand soldiers of the Central Recovery Army were unable to take Benliang City with the protection of the Snowmen; expecting the 137,000 to retake Benliang City while under attack from the Snowmen was undoubtedly wishful thinking.

The direction of the discussions would ultimately be steered towards “waiting for the Snowmen to leave before commencing the conquest.”

What specific duties each unit would be responsible for would only be known after the discussions concluded.

However, Yang Yu did not expect that this discussion would last a full two days.

Once settled, Yang Yu and his men resumed their mundane and dull military training life.

During rest periods, Yang Yu would use the pretense of inspections to find officers who had previously served in the Central Forces and gather information.

Benliang City is the largest city in the Sailuomen Plain, situated at the junction of multiple city routes, and is a crucial transportation fortress.

As long as they took control of it and stationed troops there, they could support most of the surrounding cities.

Correspondingly, other cities could also rapidly reinforce Benliang City.

Before the day of the battle, the Central Forces had captured several important supporting cities.

However, not long after the war began, these cities were retaken by the Luo Ze Empire, which allowed them to execute a flanking maneuver and encircle the Central Forces.

If they were to launch an attack on Benliang City, Luo Ze’s troops in other cities would not just stand by.

The troops of Wansheng Country would also have to leave some of their number behind to hinder Luo Ze’s support forces along the essential paths.

Taking that into account, the available military strength for the frontal battlefield of Benliang City would have to be further reduced.

The forces defending Benliang City would not just stay within the walls hurling rocks for long-range attacks as before.

With the help of the Snowmen, they would leave the city to engage and repel the attacks of the Beastmen time after time.

To conquer Benliang City, one would have to win the melee at the city gates.

But not only did the humans have the Snowmen’s aid, they had also completed the construction of cannons on the walls this year. Getting too close would only lead to being blown to smithereens by the cannons.

Hearing this, Yang Yu tapped his head.

It was truly problematic, especially with Benliang City fortified with cannons.

It was the intervention of a certain organization that allowed Yang Yu and his forces to successfully take East View City.

The power of the cannons was evident to all. If it weren’t for East View City’s cannons going silent, the West Fifth Army could not have won so easily.

“Heh, I didn’t expect you to be gathering information as well, surely you want to make a significant impact in the upcoming battles.

But it’s futile. What’s needed there next isn’t someone who can only play smart tricks, but a real Powerful individual to turn the tide of war.”

Having just inquired about the situation from an officer, Wanluo astride a bear-like demon walked up to Yang Yu, and looked down at him from a tall vantage point,

“I’ve already heard about your business from others. You’re here to heal the Plant Clan’s Woodification Disease. But I won’t make any concessions, my affairs are much more important than yours.”

Originally, Yang Yu wasn’t too inclined to pay attention to Wanluo.

But in Wanluo’s eyes, Yang Yu could see an obvious hostility.

Well, it wasn’t exactly hostility, but rather Wanluo saw Yang Yu as a rival, one he absolutely must not lose to, fearing Yang Yu would steal his limelight.

Regarding this, Yang Yu only wanted to say…

Big brother, are you mistaken? Are you really here just for your own interests? Can you really grasp the situation of your country right now?

Shouldn’t you be eagerly recruiting any able person to protect the survival of the nation and have them contribute?

Look at your Prime Minister, then look at yourself; now really isn’t the time for such disputes.

And you have the leisure to make such a proclamation here; you must be confident in your own strength. After all, a Blood Lion without the Endurance attribute is a natural war machine.

Unfortunately, even the most powerful war machine can fall short in the face of swarm tactics.

“If your fiancée overheard what you just said, she’d probably be heartbroken.”

Wanluo said nonchalantly, “That was a decision made solely by my father; I never agreed to that marriage. It seems you’ve heard about my affairs from others, though it’s no secret.”

“I heard it from your father, just to mention, I am also a disciple of your father’s.

We come from the same mentor; there’s really no need for you to be so aggressively confrontational with me.

If you truly have the ability to wreak havoc on the battlefield and turn the tides, there would be no need to come and speak to me like this.

After all, you’re just worried that you might not be up to par, and when lacking direction, someone else discovers a breakthrough strategy, taking away the credit that was never yours in the first place.”

As Yang Yu spoke, he began to walk away,

“I do hope that someone can change this somewhat desperate situation and help Wansheng Country through these difficult times.

Otherwise, I wouldn’t be here tirelessly inquiring about the last battle, persistently searching for overlooked details, thinking of ways to break through.

Perhaps other officers have done this before me, I might simply be repeating their actions, thinking what they’ve thought…

It’s all fine if it turns out to be futile.

As long as there’s a slight possibility of a breakthrough, I’ll do it.

If Lord Wanluo can truly achieve this… no one can steal your credit.

I just hope you won’t talk big.”

Watching the departing figure of Yang Yu, Wanluo didn’t follow him. His heart felt as if it had been sharply pricked by something, as though questioning his soul.

“What’s with this guy…”

Wanluo felt a peculiar frustration; he had thought that Yang Yu, having made such achievements, would show some pride like him, but the reality was different.

It didn’t take long for Wanluo to grow increasingly restless,

“Damn it, what’s up with this guy? It’s so annoying; don’t give me more pressure!”

With a fierce roar to the sky to vent the pressure inside, Wanluo grabbed the fur on the bear’s back and walked in the opposite direction that Yang Yu had gone, inexplicably starting to do the same thing as Yang Yu, gathering information.
