Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 672: Chapter 672 More Than One Traitor

Benliang City, Scarlett had already armed himself to the teeth and stood on top of the city wall, looking into the distance, waiting for the enemy’s arrival.

Snowflakes drifted down one after another, attempting to cover the traces left by past battles, but the deep craters left by cannons and the cracks from the Snowman Clan’s use of Skill, as if resisting, made their presence known.

Before the start of this war, this land had been vast fields that fed countless Beastmen.

Now, it was riddled with countless wounds.

The Beastmen who had tilled these fields had long since fled to avoid the strife, turning into waves of displaced refugees.

Spring was coming soon.

This year, they probably won’t have anyone to cultivate them, and only a few trivial sprouts will try to awaken the memory in others that “this place was once fertile.”

But then, how many people will pay attention to those sprouts?

They might as well become weeds, trampled underfoot by thousands, stamped over by ten thousand.

“General Scarlett, there’s no need to worry so much. This year’s task is considered complete.

The Beastmen are coming. A little resistance, then abandoning the city and fleeing, wouldn’t be a problem.”

Wulan walked up to the city wall, holding her helmet, her exquisite red and gold armor enhancing her extraordinary aura even further.

Through the neckline of the armor, one could vaguely see the purple warm lining Wulan wore underneath.

Thanks to the blessings from the battle of East View City, many generals had also been equipped with special warm clothing, so they needn’t worry about their attire being too heavy and affecting their performance.

Wulan did not gaze into the distance like Scarlett; her eyes swept over the long city wall, as if admiring a piece of art, appreciating the cannons upon it.

“Don’t say such naive things.”

As Scarlett turned to face Wulan, his face bore an unprecedented seriousness,

“I’ve told you before, among the troops of Wansheng Country, there is definitely someone we must take seriously.

The Magician I sent out saw designs the Beastmen could never conceive of themselves; they used that device to silently get over the wall.

Leading so many men, they advanced within the coverage area of the Extermination Force without almost exposing themselves…

Moreover, before we were set to officially provide support, they had already taken down the joint Extermination Force….

Based on the current information, before engaging with the joint Extermination Force, they resolved a considerable number of support troops, which is why the liaison officers didn’t make contact with the other troops near the joint Extermination Force.

How they did it remains uncertain.

But suppose, just suppose, the method of using the square box became known….”

“That should be impossible, shouldn’t it?

Putting aside whether the Beastmen can figure out how to use that square box, inside the Beastman Army, there’s only Beastmen; their blind meddling might accidentally activate other square boxes…

If the other troops see it, they would immediately get in touch with us….”

As she said this, Wulan suddenly thought of something,

“General Scarlett, are you worried about the recent rampant traitor incident?

Indeed if there’s a human who understands how to use the square box mixed in with the Beastman Army, all of your assumptions could hold up.”

“No, the existence of a traitor should be a foregone conclusion.

The Beastmen could not possibly know the location of the communications disruption devices to render them ineffective.”

As he spoke, Scarlett shook his head with irritation,

“He also has something on him that can avoid detection from Reconnaissance Magic.

I was careless. I should have sent someone to stake out that place earlier instead of worrying about the Beastmen noticing…”

What’s the use of saying this now?

“””

In short, give me your utmost attention. There’s more than one traitor, and as long as we keep a close watch, they will eventually slip up.”

“This is indeed of great importance.

With the lesson of the East View City’s cannons, I don’t want to end up losing both my wife and my soldiers.

Luckily, even though the assisting Snowmen have started to retreat, a small number of them remain in the ranks.

After all, nobody could do much against the mighty Snowman Clan.

As long as the Snowmen are here, repelling a few attacks should still be a rather effortless task.”

Saying this, Wulan’s peripheral vision caught a few massive Snowmen lingering by the city gates.

They yawned lazily, spring had not yet arrived, but some of them seemed to be succumbing to spring lethargy.

However, there was no need for excessive worry.

The Snowman General Fred was still present; he usually possessed the strength of an S-rank general, and with “Heavenly God’s Descent,” he could momentarily reach S+-rank.

It was a pity that their clan’s secret treasure had already been used once; otherwise, with the presence of the titan-formed Snowmen, there would have been no worries about the Beastman Army’s assault.

“Don’t keep counting on those furry fellows.

They stand with us now, but in the end, they are still a kind of subhuman.

Our relationship is one of mutual cooperation and use; we must stay vigilant.”

Without needing to understand further, the peripheral vision of Scarlett caught a scout rushing back at full speed; an indication that the formidable Beastman Army was drawing near.

Taking steady steps, General Scarlett started to personally inspect each cannon.

Wulan slowly placed his helmet on his head, descended from the city wall, and mounted his warhorse.

“Is it finally time? I’ve grown quite impatient.”

The tallest Snowman’s eyes shone with a blue light as he flexed his shoulders,

“To think they dare to attack again; I underestimated their tenacity.

Hopefully, there won’t be many battles, and we can crush their morale in one fell swoop.

Once the old general arrives, I can return home free and take our rightful reward for the Snowman Clan.”

“You seem very eager.” Wearing his helmet, Wulan’s voice was slightly muffled, “But still, be careful. If anything happens to you, I wouldn’t be able to explain it to the Snowman Clan.”

“Hahaha! To be honest, I look forward to someone actually managing to injure me.”

The city gates slowly opened, and the biting cold wind rushed through the cracks, fiercely blowing into the city.

The Luoze soldiers standing behind the Snowmen couldn’t help but huddle together, yet the Snowman General’s reassuring laughter prevented them from feeling too cold.

The Sailuomen Plain in winter was the ultimate space for Snowmen to excel.

It was as if it had been tailor-made for them.

Although the number of Snowmen that remained was less than one-fifth of the original force, the last display of the Snowmen’s prowess was witnessed by all, and the soldiers were full of confidence in the Snowmen’s capabilities.

With the Snowmen present, a victory was assured.

Marching out of the city gates, under Wulan’s command, the soldiers arranged their formations and quietly waited for their opponents’ arrival.

Suddenly, a black line appeared on the distant horizon.

The Beastman Army charged towards Benliang City like a massive swarm of ants, and their roars carried over like rolling thunder.

“Heavy Knights, form up. Advance!”

The Luoze Empire’s Heavy Knights arranged their formation in an orderly fashion, and under Wulan’s command, they marched toward the heart of the battlefield, unflustered.
