Demon King: Hero, don’t run away!

Chapter 656: Chapter 656: Look How Scared the Child Is

“Owen.”

A loud voice resounded from the entrance of the hall, followed by a sweeping majestic aura.

The giant dragons turned around and saw a dragon shadow, taller than any of them, standing at the door, its pair of huge golden eyes seemingly piercing through everything.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry!”

The Bronze Dragon Owen, like a dog who had done something wrong, hung his long neck down, holding his head with his claws, and apologizing profusely.

“Council President, Owen was just purely curious, was there really a need for this?” The Black Giant Dragon closed Yang Yu’s data interface, “Look how scared the child is.”

“Owen is the youngest member of the Giant Dragon Council. Having curiosity is a good thing, but curiosity must also distinguish between situations and significance.

The so-called heroes must be born from bathing in countless blood; our duty now is to witness this history.

Knowing too much at the beginning could lead us to adopt certain characters’ stances and prevent us from making objective evaluations.”

“Yes, yes…”

Bronze Dragon Owen’s voice was clearly lacking confidence.

The dragon shadow’s golden eyes slowly closed, and after a while, slowly opened again, looking at Bronze Dragon Owen,

“As a representative of the Bronze Dragons, there’s no need for such alarm; you’ve seen me for more than a day or two, I won’t eat you. Stand up straight!”

“Yes…” Owen responded weakly.

“Hmm?”

“Yes!”

Bronze Dragon Owen immediately straightened his chest, and his voice became much louder.

The dragon shadow nodded in satisfaction and continued, “If you’re interested in him, there’s no hurry to learn more about him until after the war is over. That is, if you’re still interested by then.

Now, do your work properly.”

“Yes!” Bronze Dragon Owen replied firmly and immediately began checking the bubbles nearby.

The golden pupils slowly drew back as the dragon shadow stepped into the palace.

Among the giant dragons, a human-sized, horned, male dragon-man in a white robe embroidered with golden patterns, exceptionally handsome and dignified, stepped out with hands that bore colorful dragon scales.

He did not observe the battlefield but summoned a bubble of his own, searched for something, and then, with a somewhat solemn face, walked out.

Once he had left, the giant dragons in the palace resumed their discussion.

“Speaking of which, besides that man, there was another human in the Wansheng Country Army.”

Black Dragon Hei Luo’s hoof-like claws once again gestured in the air, forming a small bubble that slightly pulled down, bringing up Bai Jin’s race profile for everyone to see.

“A pure human,” the pink giant dragon Merubie expressed some surprise.

Not just her, the other giant dragons also became interested.

Hei Luo found Bai Jin, who had dyed her hair golden, on the battlefield,

“From appearances, she should be mistaken for an elf, but I don’t think the Beastmen’s noses can be wrong.

Moreover, her intelligence has become very high now, almost reaching S+…

A magician with intelligence reaching S+ would exert considerable pressure on the battlefield.”

Marie said, “An overall evaluation below S+ should suffice; she’s still far from qualified, with obvious shortcomings. Her reasons for being there are unclear, so we should be cautious in case she uses some powerful large-scale magic.”

“Mmm, right, keep an eye on them for now. They have started marching, switch to the situation of other troops.”

Black Hei Luo’s claw swiped, and the scene on the bubble instantly switched, freezing on a large marching Beastman troop led by a middle-aged man with sharp ears and a fluffy short tail.

The entire troop had low morale, trudging through the snow with the wind and snow gradually diminishing.

Originally, the Central Recovery Army, numbering three hundred thousand, had left some men behind for fear of being encircled by the Luo Ze Empire from behind; unexpected appearances of Snowmen had caused further losses. Moreover, after repeated assaults, the intact troop had shattered into pieces.

Even the National Guardian General, who personally led the breakout, now had less than thirty thousand men left.

To make matters worse, some of Luo Ze Empire’s Army had flanked them from behind, causing heavy losses to the Beastman Soldiers managing logistics. Even those who escaped were severely out of touch with the main troop.

During days of fleeing, the soldiers struggled to find food and warmth.

The Beastmen, noted for their endurance, could still manage by digging up plants from beneath the snow, but most were increasingly emaciated, even feeling the ruthless cold of the Sailuomen Plain just as humans would.

At this rate, not to mention recapturing the Sailuomen Plain, they would suffer continuous losses in the layered human assaults, draining their living force and ultimately unable to resist human invasions come spring and summer.

“So that’s it, they’ve contracted their line to scatter our troops, continually slicing away at our strength.

Letting each small unit exhaust themselves, ultimately capturing us all.”

Ajiket clenched his fists tightly, yet he was powerless.

All he could do now was to try to find the scattered troops, retreat from the Sailuomen Plain, resupply, and think of a long-term plan.

On their retreat, the troop encountered several encirclements and blockades, changing their retreat direction several times.

Although the Beastmen had keen hearing and smell, most of them could not find their way without discernible landmarks.

Initially, they had navigated by a seen city, but even that city had been occupied by Luoze’s forces.

Upon approaching, the Luoze army on the city walls used the solid fortifications to launch long-range attacks.

Since all ladders for storming the city had been discarded in their hasty escape, and with Luo Ze Empire’s soldiers menacingly close behind, the Beastman Soldiers could not conquer the city for resupply and were forced to continue their retreat.

Time slowly passed, and it was dinner time again.

Each soldier received only a bit of warm broth, quickly consumed.

This meager food did not alleviate the cold they felt in their bones.

After eating, some of the Beastmen curled up near older Beastmen for warmth, huddling together.

Within this broad race of Beastmen, some grew warmer fur as they aged, becoming more animal-like.

Previously, many young Beastmen would distance themselves from their middle-aged and older counterparts, but now, contradicting the usual behavior…

“General, time to eat.”

A young General with a ponytail held out the meager food to Ajiket,

“It’ll get cold if you don’t eat soon.”

“I’m not hungry, give it to others!” Ajiket looked into the distance, not turning to glance at the young man with the ponytail.

The ponytailed young man remained silent for a while, his hand still outstretched, waiting for Ajiket to respond.

About a minute later, Ajiket turned around, and the young man’s face lit up with joy, thinking Ajiket had changed his mind.

However, the next moment, he saw the very serious expression on Ajiket’s face,

“Inform all units, prepare to retreat!”
