The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 450: Chapter 450: Traveling a Thousand Miles to Comfort a Lonely Heart_1

The handwriting inside had changed, now neat and delicate.

——There are always more solutions than difficulties, Nathalie, your future is brilliantly bright!

”???” Alfred Garland craned his neck to sneak a peek, looking over two notes, becoming more confused with each one, and turned to ask Justin Wafford, ”What are you guys writing? I can’t understand it at all.”

Justin Wafford unconsciously glanced at Nathalie Quinlan. He didn’t want to say it, but since Alfred kept asking, he had to explain gently, ”Earlier, I made a phone call to Nathalie to ask about her scores, and she said she couldn’t estimate them. Everyone felt downhearted after hearing it; we were all worried about her. But as the college entrance exams are approaching and the school didn’t give a break, nobody could come except for me.”

As he spoke, his gaze settled on Nathalie Quinlan. His youthful face might have shown the shyness that young people have when expressing emotions, but it was mostly the determination brought by the ’trust’ the whole class had placed in him. Justin clenched his fists and said firmly, ”Nathalie, the mock exam isn’t the only chance, we still have the college entrance exam. It doesn’t matter if you didn’t do well this time. It doesn’t represent anything. We’ll work hard together for the college entrance exam, and it will surely be fine!”

Nathalie Quinlan’s eyes were deep black, indescribable emotions swelling within her. Despite the October air, warmth ironed the fabric of her heart. Holding the glass bottle, she turned her head, lifted her eyes, her gaze wild, ”Who told you I did badly?”

Justin Wafford thought she didn’t want him to see her vulnerable side and his mood sank, ”You didn’t tell us that you did badly, we guessed it ourselves. When I called you and put you on speaker, everyone heard you say you couldn’t accurately estimate your scores...”

Being unable to estimate scores essentially equaled doing poorly. If one had performed well, there would be a certainty about their scores, at least to some degree.

If Nathalie Quinlan didn’t even know how much she would score, wouldn’t that mean she had performed poorly?

Alfred Garland couldn’t listen anymore, interrupting him, an incredulous expression on his face, ”So, you all heard Ms. Quinlan say she couldn’t estimate her scores on the phone call and spontaneously assumed she did poorly, and specially came to Beijing to comfort her in person?”

”What’s wrong with that?” Justin Wafford retorted.

Alfred Garland looked complex, shaking his head, ”...Nothing’s wrong.”

He knew Nathalie Quinlan got along well with her classmates, but he had not imagined that her relationship with them was so strong that the whole class would send someone out of concern that she hadn’t done well on the test—it was a good thing, only... it seemed to have been misdirected.

They had comforted the wrong person!

The top scorer of Tsinghua University needed comforting?!

”Ah, didn’t you guys ever consider that Ms. Quinlan said she couldn’t estimate because she did too well?”

Justin Wafford was baffled, ”What do you mean?”

Do well and still can’t estimate the score?

Alfred Garland didn’t know how to explain, looking at the suitcase Justin had dragged with him, he couldn’t help but laugh and cry, ”I mean, sometimes when people do too well, it’s natural to be uncertain about the last few points. For example, if you score a 650, it’s easy to be unsure whether the teacher will give you those last few points.”

He said it casually, as if he spoke from experience, but God knows that until yesterday his thoughts had been similar to Justin’s—they all thought Nathalie hadn’t done well.

It never crossed his mind that Nathalie could score a perfect!

Justin was first stunned, then slightly confused, his eyes staring blankly at Nathalie Quinlan. It took him a while to find his voice, but his throat was dry, his speech rough and numb, ”Nathalie, did you score 650?”

Not the 150 or 350 they had guessed before, Nathalie scored 650?!
